Chapter 141: Chapter 127: The Agreement of Three Moves

"Kneel down!" Gao Zheng bellowed in anger.

Gao Jianping, a thirty-year-old man, had no choice but to kneel upon hearing these words.

But he was very defiant, glaring at his father with resentment.

"Dad, what era do you think it is? Your methods are long out of date! Look at Wu Li, defeating so many masters on the arena, everyone is praising him, saying he’s the spokesperson for Traditional Martial Arts. What Traditional Martial Arts needs now is not us clinging to old ways, but someone to stand up, bring change, and prove it to everyone!"

"Slap!"

Gao Zheng slapped Gao Jianping across the face, "You bastard!"

"Our ancestors set the rules, passed down their legacy, you say abandon them, you say change them? This is unfilial!"

"But what’s the use of sticking to these rules? What’s the use of practicing the fist so hard for so many years?" Gao Jianping also became enraged and roared back.

"Fine, I’ll tell you what use it is!" Gao Zheng reddened with anger.

"In 1969, your grandfather challenged a Fanzi Fist expert, Guo Dong, and narrowly won. After that, our Gao Family Eagle Claw Fist had a place in the Martial Arts world."

"In 1972, your grandfather took me from Beihai all the way to Nanping, traveled thousands of miles, and defeated eleven masters in a row. Since then, the prowess of our Gao Family Eagle Claw Fist was known throughout the Martial Arts world!"

"In 1984, ’Iron Arm’ Liang San, a master of Long Arm Fist, came to challenge us. Your grandfather was old, and I fought in his stead, blinding one of the opponent’s eyes!"

"In 1986, I officially took up the banner of the Gao Family Eagle Claw Fist and was qualified to accept disciples."

"In 1988, many figures from the Martial Arts community of Beihai Province gathered, and I, alone, defeated masters of Pigua, Cannon Hammer, and Yan Qing among others. Thereafter, the title of the number one hand in Beihai belonged to our Gao Family!"

Gao Zheng looked at Gao Jianping and said word for word, "The honor of our Gao Family was built on your grandfather and I’s fists and feet, with our very lives! You ask what’s the use of practicing the fist hard, this is its purpose, what you must do is to uphold this honor!"

"The Martial Arts world is long gone!" Gao Jianping yelled.

"You go out and see, how many people still know about Gao Family Eagle Claw Fist?"

"Just to guard this honor that no longer exists, how much have I sacrificed? Other kids are playing, I’m practicing the fist, other kids are studying hard, I’m still practicing the fist! They can go to college, fall in love, work; what about me? Practice the fist, practice the fist. Have I practiced so hard for so many years, just to stay in this broken place giving people massages?"

Gao Jianping forcefully rose to his feet, eyes red as he stared at Gao Ping, "You choose to live in the past and refuse to move on, but my life shouldn’t be sacrificed for that!"

After saying that, he turned and stormed out.

Gao Zheng watched his son’s retreating back, wanting to reach out to grab him but was a step too slow.

Slowly turning around, he supported himself on the chair and slowly sat down, staring in the direction of the door in a daze, silent as a rock.

"Amazing, is this Eagle Claw Fist?"

"Long Arm Liang San, please teach me!"

"Good Kung Fu, I admire it!"

"The junior Gao Zheng, today, with Eagle Claw Fist, I shall learn from everyone’s excellent moves!"

"Gao Zheng, wins!"

"From today on, the title of the number one hand in Beihai will belong to the Gao Family!"

...

Memories flitted through the old man’s mind like flickering shadows.

A smile emerged on the old man’s face; he closed his eyes, with tears rolling down his cheeks unknowingly.

"Haha, hahaha, hahahaha..."

The laughter carried far and wide into the night.

...

The next morning, after finishing his morning practice, Wu Li returned to the hotel where he was staying and encountered Gao Jianping.

His eyes were red, his face weary.

Surprised, Wu Li asked, "Brother Gao, what happened to you?"

Gao Jianping looked at Wu Li and said solemnly, "Brother Wu, I’ve made my decision. I’m going to follow you in improving the Eagle Claw Fist. I want to fight on the arena and prove myself! To show that I haven’t lived these decades in vain!"

Wu Li nodded, "Alright, that’s perfect. But didn’t you say yesterday that you wanted to persuade your father first? Have you already discussed it with him last night?"

Gao Jianping’s expression darkened, "My dad is just an old-fashioned stubborn man, completely beyond persuasion. I don’t want to be bound by him anymore."

Wu Li fell silent, finding family matters difficult to comment on.

"How about this, we were planning to visit Master Gao Zheng today anyway. Let me talk to him?" Wu Li suggested.

Gao Jianping shook his head, "He’s impossible to convince. You should prepare yourself for the visit; he’s also very much against people like you who fight in competitions."

Wu Li nodded, "Understood. Are you coming along?"

"I won’t!" Gao Jianping snapped, "I’ll just wait for you guys here."

...

At 10 a.m., Wu Li and the production team started a live broadcast. When the number of viewers increased, the group set out for the clinic of Gao Zheng.

After they arrived, the doors of the clinic were open. Wu Li walked in first, only to find no one inside.

"Anyone here? Is Master Gao Zheng here?" Wu Li called out.

No one answered. Wu Li walked further into the clinic and found that a small door leading to the courtyard was open.

Stepping through the small door into the rear courtyard, he saw an old man standing in the yard holding a flag.

Clad in a black training suit with crimson linings at the cuffs and collar and an embroidered eagle on the left chest, it was Gao Zheng.

Gao Zheng was holding a black flag that fluttered in the wind, with several large characters written on it:

Gao Family Eagle Claw!

The scene stunned Wu Li and his production team.

Gao Zheng stood erect, his gaze sharp like an eagle circling in the sky, ready to hunt its prey—hardly the image of a man nearing sixty.

"Are you Wu Li?" Gao Zheng asked coldly.

Wu Li bowed, "Junior Wu Li, I’ve come to see Master Gao."

"Yesterday, I heard from Gao Jianping that you plan to collaborate with martial artists from various schools to explore how to improve Martial Arts techniques?" Gao Zheng inquired.

Wu Li nodded confidently, "That’s correct."

Gao Zheng scoffed, "How audacious! You want to change things passed down for generations, just like that? Are you even qualified?"

Wu Li replied calmly, "I want to try."

"Martial Arts are for killing enemies, for protecting one’s country and people, and yet you want to change it for entertainment purposes, don’t you feel ashamed?" Gao Zheng questioned.

Wu Li frowned, about to speak, but Gao Zheng interrupted him, "I don’t want to argue with you today. Right and wrong will be determined through our fists!"

"Gao Family Eagle Claw Fist contemporary Sect Leader, Gao Zheng, please!"

Gao Zheng greeted Wu Li with a bow.

Wu Li smiled and said, "Alright! But since you are advanced in years, Master, I don’t want to take advantage of you. If I can’t defeat you in three moves, then consider it my loss!"

"Xingyi Fist, Wu Li, please!"
