Chapter 189: Kiss me_Part 1

It was the sound of a piano playing, its notes reaching into the chamber, and before she knew what she was doing, she got off the bed and ran out of the chamber, following the sound that led her to the piano room she knew they had in the manor. But she had never gotten curious enough to go into the room, as she had been too burdened by Rohan’s condition to care about anything else around her.

The double doors to the piano room stood ajar, and pure, sweet Chopin floated out through the crack. Belle pushed the doors open and paused on the threshold at the sight that beheld her inside the room.

Rohan sat at the polished piano, staring at the empty music stand in front of him while he played the instrument without a music book.

His wide shoulders moved as his hands found and played notes, and his bare foot flexed as he worked the damper pedal. Winter sunlight that flowed in from the huge glass windows where the curtains were pulled caught on his dark blue hair. He was wearing a robe and loose black trousers.

He looked as healthy as he had ever looked. There was no paleness to his complexion, and his skin glowed and shimmered against the faint sunlight. It was like he was made of gold and everything expensive. Her Rohan was back—her heart skipped a beat and swelled with warmth.

And the music he was playing wove around her and drew her to him. She walked across the room to the piano as the notes floated around her, loud and sweet. She could bathe in them.

The music made a little run high on the keyboard, then ended with a low chord that used all of Rohan’s gloved fingers. He let his hands stay in place, sinews stretching, as the last undulations died away.

Belle pressed her hands together and clapped. "That was magnificent. I never knew you could play."

Rohan snatched his fingers from the keys. He looked quickly up at Belle as he hadn’t sense her and away, then placed his hands back on the keyboard.

"I learned it when I was... in the womb," he said with a small chuckle and a shake of his head. He had indeed learned it from his mother, as she always played it to him when he was still in her womb. Recalling those moments he had never let bother him in the past after he lost his heart, but now back with his heart inside him, his expression darkened like the gathering clouds of a storm.

Belle noticed it and spoke to change the subject from an undeserving mother, "That’s extraordinary. You are special."

Rohan did not say anything. He remained on the bench of the piano, frowning as though trying to remember something.

Belle thought he wouldn’t say anything again until he looked away from the black and white keys of the instrument and to the window.

"I was beaten for it," he muttered. "When I played it to my parents, I was punished because I never had a piano teacher. They thought it impossible that I knew how to play."

While Belle was still asleep this morning, Rohan had woken up by dusk, and seeing how different and exhausted she looked on the bed, he had not dared to disturb her sleep and slipped away to find Rav. He needed to know what had happened in the past month and weeks he was in that state.

Rav had told him everything—from how he had told her about his parents and how determined she was to save him. She had done so much that it surprised him. His little bunny had grown so fast and brave he couldn’t believe it, and he couldn’t find a way to repay her for it.

He had been lost in thought of ways to pay her back, to give her as much as she had given, when he found his way to this piano and began to play the familiar keys of his time in the womb.

And since he had nothing to hide from her, he continued to speak, "Zach called me a liar because I learned it when I was still in the womb. I told him I didn’t know how to lie, so he said, ’Better be called a liar, because what you’ve done is unnatural and no normal person could do it. I’ll teach you never to do it again. I’ll teach you how to be a normal vampire.’"

A gruff note entered Rohan’s voice as he echoed the man’s timbre as well as his words, and then he chuckled like he found it funny now, because he indeed found it funny and not as hurtful as it had been when it first happened to him.

Belle’s throat tightened. "That’s horrible..." She muttered.

"I was often beaten and cut, so it wasn’t anything new to me. You’ve always been curious about the scars on my back, I got them from Zach. He had a special knife he used to cut my back that never healed like it should. The cuts always leave a scar. Whenever I did something he did not approve of—and to me it made perfect sense—I received a cut and a beating. He’s an asshole, and I fucking despise him to the core. That’s why I killed him," he said with a voice devoid of remorse but rather filled with amusement. But despite that, his eyes that never held any emotions before held a hint of pain as a memory crossed his mind.

Belle, who was standing beside him and had her hand resting now on his shoulder, was frozen when the memory that crossed his mind flashed and reflected on her.

She saw Rohan as a boy, his frightened dark eyes looking everywhere but straight at the king while the man shouted at him, then closing his eyes in pain and fear as the iron rod came down on him. Belle gasped and pulled back her hand, which she had placed on his shoulder for comfort as the boy groaned in pain.

She clasped the hand to her chest and looked down at Rohan, who was too lost in his memories to see that it had reflected to her when she touched him. This wasn’t the first time she had seen things by touching a surface of something or someone, but because of her worries for his well-being, she had been unable to focus on anything else.

What was she and how come she had such powers?

Rohan began another piece immediately he snapped out of his memories, this one slow and sonorous. He kept his head half-bent, his handsome face still as he focused on the keys. His thigh moved as he worked the pedal, his entire body playing the music, and Belle watched him.
