Chapter 94: Don’t let anyone bully you.

Anna was startled to see her sitting at the secretary’s desk. She had always known Lorie as just a clerk in this small company. How had she suddenly become the CEO’s secretary?

On the other end, Lorie’s brows knit together, and her lips curled in frustration as she shot up from her chair. With sharp, clipped steps, she strode toward Anne, arms crossed tightly over her chest.

"What are you doing here?" Lorie snapped. "This is a restricted area. You’re not allowed to be here."

Anne tilted her chin as she met Lorie’s glare without hesitation. "I have business here," she replied coolly.

Lorie scoffed, her eyes scanning Anne with poorly veiled disdain. "Business?" she sneered. "A lot of women like you often come here to covet the CEO. But the boss has no time to entertain such kind of women. Don’t humiliate yourself. Go away."

Anne gritted her teeth in frustration. She wondered why Augustine had hired Lorie as his secretary. Didn’t he know Lorie was her stepsister, the one who always bullied her?

Her frustration mounted with every passing second. She wished to slap her and show Lorie her place. How dare she talk to her like that? She wondered how Lorie would react if she told her she was the CEO’s wife. However, she decided not to reveal her identity yet. She wanted to play along and see what else Lorie would do.

There wouldn’t be any fun if she kicked her out of the office right away.

"I am not the kind of women who want to flirt with him," Anne said coldly. "The CEO himself has called me."

"Huh?" Lorie laughed disdainfully. "Daydreaming? Why would he call you? You aren’t someone special."

The confidence in her words was almost amusing. The more Lorie acted arrogantly, the more it would be entertaining to crush her.

"Don’t you believe me?" Anne scoffed with a smirk on her lips. "Wait, I’ll call him right away." She fished her phone out of her bag.

With a flurry, Lorie snapped the phone from her hand and threw it down, breaking it into pieces.

Anne gasped, shock written all over her face. "My phone!"

"Don’t pretend to know him," Lorie spat. "Your drama won’t work here. Get out before I call the guards."

Anne lost the last bit of her restraint. She raised her hand to slap her.

The door to the CEO’s office pulled open in the meantime, and Augustine came out.

Anne froze, her gaze meeting his. Augustine also came to a halt, surprised to see her.

On the other hand, Lorie saw it as an opportunity to humiliate Anne and blame her for assaulting her. She suddenly fell, wincing.

Anne stepped back subconsciously, gaping at Lorie in shock.

"It hurts," Lorie whimpered. When she looked up at Augustine, her eyes were filled with tears. "Sir, you have to do justice for me. This woman..."

She pointed an accusatory finger at Anne. "She came unauthorized. I only tried to remind her that this is a restricted area, and no visitor is allowed without a prior appointment. But she insisted on seeing you. When I stopped her, she slapped me and pushed me down."

Anne looked up at Augustine. This was nothing new to her. She had been in such a situation in the past as well when Tania had framed her and accused her falsely. No matter how much she had tried to explain herself, Denis had never believed her and had always blamed her, forcing her to apologize to Tania.

She wanted to see how Augustine would react. Would he believe in Lorie’s fake tears? Or would he see through her lies?

Augustine barely glanced at Lorie. He directed his gaze to Anne. "Why didn’t you call me before coming here?" he questioned, his tone cold with irritation. If he had known the interview was over, he would have gone to see her on his own.

But Anne took it wrongly. Hearing his sharp question, she thought he was upset with her and that he was blaming her for hurting Lorie.

"I thought I would come over and see you directly," she replied with the same cold tone. "But it seemed that I came at a wrong time. I would make a proper appointment before entering this floor."

Lorie, still on the floor, looked at them with astonishment. ’What is going on?’ she wondered to herself. It seemed that Augustine and Anne were familiar with each other. But how? How could Anne know him?

She was still trying to understand how they knew each other when Anne turned to leave.

"Where do you think you are going?" Augustine asked, restlessness seeping into his tone. "Come to my office...now." He turned and walked back into his office.

Anne sighed, frustration simmering within her. She glanced at Lorie for a last time before following him in.

Lorie slapped the floor in frustration, her features twisting. "How come that bitch get to know the boss?"

Inside the office...

As soon as the door closed behind Anne, Augustine pulled her into his arms, taking her by surprise. Before she could react, he held her head and smacked his lips against hers.

Anne gasped as Augustine’s grip tightened around her, his lips pressing insistently against hers. She stiffened in shock, her hands bracing against his chest in an attempt to push him away. "Stop it, Augustine..." she protested, but her words were lost as he silenced her with another deep, fervent kiss.

"Wait..." she managed to murmur between breaths, struggling against his embrace. But he wouldn’t let go. His arms remained firm around her, holding her close as though to prove a point.

"Why did you say that?" he grumbled, his lips brushing against hers. "You don’t need an appointment to meet me."

Anne’s eyes widened in realization. She had assumed he was angry, that he had believed Lorie’s lies. But instead, it was her words that had upset him. The thought made her resistance falter, her anger melting away.

"You are my wife," he reminded her possessively. His mouth found hers again, his kiss lingering. "You should remember that. Don’t let anyone bully you. Do you understand?"

Anne’s heart clenched, emotions swelling in her chest. In the past, Denis had never trusted her. No matter how many times she was falsely accused, he had always taken Tania’s side, believing every lie spun against her. But Augustine—he was different. He didn’t doubt her. He didn’t blame her without cause.

Her vision blurred with unshed tears as she pulled back slightly, searching his face. "You don’t blame me for hitting Lorie?" she asked, testing him, watching for his reaction. "She is your secretary. Don’t you think I went too far?"

Augustine’s expression didn’t waver. "I’m not blind, Anne. I saw everything," he said firmly. "She fell on her own. And even if you had hit her, I wouldn’t blame you."

He cupped her face, his gaze softening. "Because I trust you. You would never hurt someone without a reason."
