Chapter 89: Don’t even try to compete with me.
Left alone at the table, Tania took the necklace from the box and fastened it around her neck. She turned on her phone’s camera, admiring her reflection as a slow, satisfied smile spread across her lips.
"Denis still loves me," she murmured. "He’ll buy me anything as long as I ask."
Then, a devious idea crept into her mind. It was the perfect opportunity to remind Anne of her place—to make sure she never entertained the thought of getting back with Denis.
With a gleam of satisfaction, Tania stood gracefully, adjusting the necklace so it sat perfectly against her collarbone. She grabbed her glass of wine and sauntered toward Anne. Tonight, she would make sure Anne understood—Denis was far beyond her reach.
Anne sat alone at her table, swirling her drink lazily in her glass, enjoying the quiet buzz of alcohol.
"Drinking alone?" Tania’s voice cut through the air, laced with smug amusement. She slid into the seat across from Anne. "Where is your husband?"
Anne, feeling pleasantly light from the alcohol, had no interest in engaging in a pointless argument. She wasn’t about to let Tania ruin her mood.
"Why are you looking for my husband?" Anne shot back sarcastically. "Not satisfied with one man? If you think Augustine will give you attention, you’re wrong. Go back. Don’t waste my time."
Tania chuckled, unfazed. "Augustine? Please. Why would I care about him when I have Denis? He loves me, keeps me happy, spoils me with gifts. See this?" She leaned forward slightly, her fingers brushing over the glittering diamonds around her neck. "Denis doesn’t hesitate to spend on me. He even promised more."
Anne took a slow sip of her drink, unimpressed.
Tania’s smile widened. "And why wouldn’t he? I’m carrying his child."
Anne nearly laughed. ’Liar.’
She remained calm, refusing to give Tania the reaction she was so obviously fishing for. That silence, that indifference—it grated on Tania’s nerves. She wanted her to break, to lash out, but Anne simply sipped her drink.
Desperate to provoke her, Tania drawled, "Denis promised me a grand wedding. Once I give birth, the Beaumont family fortune will be mine. You don’t stand a chance. Don’t even try to compete with me."
Anne met Tania’s gaze with an icy stare. "You sound so sure of yourself. Are you absolutely certain Denis will marry you?"
Tania lifted her chin defiantly. "Of course. I’m carrying his child. Who else would he marry but me?"
Anne’s lips curled into a sneer as she stood up, towering over Tania. "Really? Then tell me—why hasn’t he married you yet? What is stopping him?" She took a deliberate step closer, her voice taunting. "What if he changes his mind at the last minute?"
Her gaze flickered down to Tania’s stomach, a slow smirk forming. "You’re pinning all your hopes on this child to secure your place in the Beaumont family. But be careful. What if something happens to the baby?"
Tania’s expression darkened. "Are you threatening me?" She jumped to her feet.
Anne simply shrugged. "Not at all. Just giving you a little warning." She nodded toward the glass on the table Tania had brought. "You are pregnant, yet you are drinking wine. Aren’t you worried about harming your child? And those stilettoes—way too high for someone in your condition. I’m just saying... if anything happens to the baby, your dream of becoming a Beaumont will shatter."
Tania’s jaw clenched, but Anne wasn’t done. She flashed an arrogant smile. "But me? I’m already married to Augustine. I don’t have to fight for a place in the family. I already belong."
"You—" Tania’s voice shook with fury. "Don’t get cocky. Augustine is nothing compared to Denis. He was a pathetic nerd in school, always getting bullied, always losing to Denis. Years have passed, but nothing has changed. He is still the same loser. And don’t fool yourself into thinking that marrying him automatically earns you a place in the Beaumont family. His standing in the family is far from guaranteed."
Anne’s patience snapped. Her fingers twitched, itching to throw the wine in Tania’s face, but she took a deep breath, forcing herself to stay composed. Instead, she met Tania’s glare with an icy smirk.
"The past is the past. You’d be a fool to underestimate Augustine now. Instead of wasting your time obsessing over me and my husband, focus on yourself. Who knows? You might end up with nothing."
With that, Anne turned and walked away, refusing to waste another second on her.
Tania seethed, her body trembling with rage. She gritted her teeth. "How dare she threaten me? I’ll make her regret this."

Anne stopped a passing waiter and grabbed another glass of wine. Her fingers curled tightly around the stem as she made her way to a quiet corner, sinking onto a plush sofa. Her face remained composed, but her jaw was set in a hard line.
She had held herself together in front of Tania, refusing to give her the satisfaction of seeing her lose her cool. But now that she was alone, memories came rushing back like a tide she couldn’t hold back.
Tania’s words echoed in her mind.
Denis was a fool—so blind that he couldn’t see past Tania’s deception. He was willing to marry the woman who had once discarded him, who had cheated on him without remorse, who was feeding him lie after lie about a child that did not even exist.
He had once sworn to love Anne but had thrown her aside without a second thought. He had ignored the woman who had loved him with everything she had, betrayed her, and toyed with her feelings as if they meant nothing.
The injustice burned in her chest, a fire that no amount of wine could extinguish.
She lifted the glass to her lips and downed the drink in one go, the bitterness matching the resentment simmering inside her.
"Denis, you bastard," she muttered, tightening her grip on the empty glass. "You deserve to be fooled. I want you to experience the sting of betrayal."

As Denis strode down the corridor toward the private booth, his gaze landed on a tall figure in a sharp grey suit stepping out and moving in the opposite direction. Another man followed closely behind him. Though he couldn’t see his face, Denis had little doubt—it had to be Mr. Benett, the president of the Sphere Group.
His pulse quickened. "I have to talk to him tonight." He picked up his pace, determined to catch up.
But just as he was about to move forward, his steps faltered, and he came to an abrupt stop. His brows knitted together as he watched something unexpected unfold before him.
The man he believed to be the powerful head of the Sphere Group suddenly halted in front of someone—then he bowed slightly in respect.
’Who is he bowing to?’ Denis wondered, surprised.
His frown deepened, curiosity burning in his chest. He craned his neck, trying to get a glimpse of the person commanding such deference.
But with Mr. Benett and his companion blocking his view, all Denis could see was a shadowed figure standing in front of them, hidden from his sight.
After a while, Denis saw the mayor walking away with his secretary. His tense shoulders finally eased, and his frown relaxed.
’So that’s it. It was the mayor.’
Just as he took a step forward, ready to move on, he froze again. Another figure stood before Mr. Benett.
Denis’s eyes widened in shock. Augustine?
