Maids VS Apocalypse
Chapter 72: Knock knock.

Chapter 72: Knock knock.

Mark wasn’t a big fan of parties and this one reminded him of the reason. Even though it would be more accurate to call it a dinner, he was still left dejected after it ended.

Never did he think they would end up contemplating the reality of their existence at their first meeting.

Throughout the whole gathering, Mark tried to get a read on this new crew he had joined. He could tell they were putting effort into making him feel at home among them, and though he didn’t like it one bit, he still tried to reciprocate.

Nevertheless, the continuous roasting has left him with way too many burns. He swore to take revenge on Ramsay for making him a laughing stock, but the others would also know the extent of their wrath at some point.

Though Franco offered to take over the cleaning, the others still remained to help. Elya took it upon herself to clear the mess created when she punched Alex through the wall.

Before long the apartment was back to the way it was, except for the hole leading to the hallway, of course. Everyone said their goodbyes right after and left to rest for the night.

With the entire city abandoned, the neighboring apartments were free for anyone to use. There was no need for them all to huddle together so Mark was left alone with his maid.

When the silence reached the point of awkwardness, Lara spoke up and asked if she could take a shower. Mark had no reason to refuse, but the way she made the request bothered him a little.

He told her that she didn’t need to ask for his permission if she wanted to do something.

His point was that she only needed to inform him since he had no right to tell her not to go, but the maid disagreed, saying that she needed permission to leave his side.

The implications were a little difficult to grasp so Mark decided to forget about them for the time being. He had a lot to worry about, after all.

His maid was going to take a shower. His heart rate increased when the door closed behind her and his excitement peaked at the thought of an approaching event.

Bits and pieces of the previous conversation they had came back to him just then and all the fire rising inside him was instantly put out.

’The author must really suck at his job, huh...’

When the idea crossed his mind for the first time, Mark immediately believed himself to be in a NovelFire. Not a novel, an anime, or a game, but a NovelFire specifically. That was a reflection of the fear he felt at the idea.

NovelFires were unique in many ways. They have very low entry barriers so almost anyone can make one, but it is exactly for that reason why the quality rarely reaches acceptable levels.

Most of the time those works are a manifestation of the author’s unchecked desires with the plot being nothing but a frame to hold it all together. And that’s without mentioning the less-than-stellar writing skills.

Apocalypse, systems, cute heroines. The more he thought about it, the more real the idea of it all being a NovelFire felt. Just thinking about it caused his head to hurt so he decided to ignore the topic going forward.

’I should stop thinking about this...’ Mark scratched his head and got up. ’Let’s leave questioning reality to the philosophers.’

He glanced in the direction of the bathroom then turned around and headed for his bedroom. Standing at the entrance, he stared at the closet in the corner for some time then shook his head and sighed. His gaze turned to his workstation next.

As if he was going through a well-established routine, he pulled his chair, pressed the power button on his computer tower, sat down then put his headphones on.

In a few seconds, the desktop computer came to life and the custom wallpaper he had seen thousands of times appeared. It was another one of the CGs, one belonging to his favorite maid from the game.

Celestia looked like the typical white elf with long blonde hair and green eyes. She always has a gentle smile on her face and a warm motherly aura surrounded her the entire time. But most important of all was her rocking body.

Mark created her specifically with the idea of a MILF in mind. He imagined her to be a kind woman who brings comfort to everyone around her, but once you get her in bed she fully unleashes her freaky side.

Of course, that freaky side never made it to the game and was something Mark kept only to himself.

His illustrator friend went above and beyond when designing her appearance, and though he hated to admit it, Mark knew that he had lost galleons just from imagining what he would do if he got his hands on her.

’Damn it...’ Even as he cursed in his mind, Mark couldn’t stop his lips from curling up. ’The bastard had a point...’

The whole thing is just a low quality NovelFire? The author sucks at his job? Even if all of that was true, so what?

Mark understood that he was en route to get the woman of his dreams. No matter how long it would take, and no matter the hurdles put in his way, he would eventually summon her, and once he did

’I will definitely get her to let me smash.’ Staring at the illustration, Mark steeled his resolve. ’One way or another.’

"Knock knock."

A tired voice accompanied by a faint knock almost jolted the soul out of Mark’s body. Whipping his head toward the door, he saw an exhausted Ramsay leaning against the frame, a knowing smirk on his face.

"You really have no care for your surroundings, huh?" The Sergeant laughed weakly.

Mark heaved a sigh, relieved it wasn’t Lara who caught him just now. He grabbed the mouse and clicked a few times, and before long, one of the default wallpapers replaced the long-eared maid’s picture.

"C’mon, no need to be ashamed." Ramsay giggles. "Speaking of shame, I’m guessing your author has a thing for blonde busty elves as well, huh?"

"What do you want?"

"Just checking."

Mark planned to go through his files and see if nothing was amiss, but since the computer turned on like normal he saw no reason to do it. He clicked the shutdown option and got up from his seat, waited for everything to turn off then went about unplugging the device.

"If that’s all then how about you screw off?"

"Yeah yeah, I will be going soon, alright?"

The silence returned then lingered for a while. Mark busied himself with his desktop, taking the components one by one and storing them in his inventory.

Having heard no steps retreat from his room, he was about to face the Sergeant and ask him once again what he came there for. Ramsay spoke first, however.

"Earlier, you hid the details about your system from the others." He said. "Why?"
