Maiden Of The Splitting Moon
Chapter 719: The Muhou Troupe

She didn't hesitate to move, flicking her finger and shooting the Wind Needle at the noodle cart owner.

But then the target suddenly vanished.

Just as the Wind Needle reached them, a hair's breadth from piercing their head, they disappeared, leaving behind the clothes of their disguise. The young cultivator kept moving, spreading her energy around in a thin veil. With this, she could sense everything within several kilometers, including the carts.

Her expression was unchanged, complete focus as she was on high alert.

"They actually managed to notice me from that distance. This Muhou Troupe..."

She didn't expect to be seen through like that but now that one of the members spotted her, it had become a game of chase.

Running through the darkness of the night, Ming Yue melded in with the shadows. She unsheathed both blades which let out a dissonant howl. Her eyes flashed as she suddenly spun around, blocking a pair of daggers from above.

Looking up, she saw the troupe member with her own eyes, someone wearing a hooded cape whose face was covered with a theatre mask.

As their weapons clashed, she pushed them back, forcing them to retreat into the shadowy tendrils of the trees. The young cultivator gave chase, not letting her target get out of sight. The troupe member moved in a peculiar manner, slipping around the trees like a fly out of the corner of one's eye. If you weren't careful, they'd disappear just like that, only to come back and bite you.

To make things worse, they started throwing things at her, small bombs that exploded just a second later. Smoke burst out of it, covering her view but Ming Yue wasn't concerned with it. With a simple thought, wind gathered and blew it out of her way.

The once quiet forest was filled with the ring of weapons clashing and boom of those bombs.

Everyone heard it.

"What was that?"

The experts sent by the Chamber of Gold all looked at each other, hearing such noise in a distance.

"Let's go investigate it."

They grabbed their weapons immediately and set off to find out what was happening.

On the other hand, the Muhou Troupe stayed put, after all it was everyone for themselves. If one of them was discovered, they were on their own.

Though, those were their orders.

As elusive as this masked member was, Ming Yue closed in on them. Several Wind Needles formed at the tip of her sword before she swung out, shooting them off. At the same time, she flicked her wrist.

"Whistle Wind."

An invisible blade of wind manifested, flying toward her target's neck like a guillotine. The only thing that separated it from other attacks was the shrill whistle it produced because of the sheer speed it came at.

Getting attacked from multiple directions, the Muhou Troupe Member had to make a decision quickly. And they did so without hesitation. They suddenly stopped, letting the Whistle Wind carve right through their neck and the Wind Needles pierce their skull.

Their bodies turned limp, flying in that instant.

Ming Yue's eyes widened in surprise, not expecting such a development.

"Instead of trying to escape, they chose to die. What loyalty."

Stopping before the corpse, she moved to check it, searching for anything of value. Once that was done, she tied the body up and left it on the road. Allowing those search party to find it and letting it be known to the rest of the troupe that she was after them.

And the young woman had only just begun.

She turned around, gazing at the surrounding forests before moving on. As she left, the experts from the Chamber of Gold came across the corpse, surrounding it before taking a quick glance at their surroundings.

"It is indeed the Muhou Troupe, should we return to report it? Come back with reinforcements?" one of them remarked.

They looked at each other before someone said something.

"By the looks of it, we're not the only ones looking for that ring. The Splendid Goose was supposed to make multiple exchanges the day he was attacked. I wouldn't be surprised if a few people decided to take things into their own hands."

"Then it's agreed, one of us should return to the city while the rest of us continue the search. With the talisman, finding the ring should be simple enough."

"What about the Muhou Troupe?"

"We may not need to worry about them. They'll have their hands full with whoever is killing them off."

Planning the next steps, one of the Earth Realm experts went back to the city while the others continued on their way. As they had said, it wasn't just them and Ming Yue that had gone out for the ring. There were plenty of others who had joined as well, many of whom were hired to do so.

But the young cultivator was ahead of them, she left nothing but a vague silhouette, running through the forest in search of the next target. Some time passed as the moon had risen directly above them, shining light through the small gaps in the leaves.

Her eyes darted as she noticed a glint in the darkness.

She raised her sword just as a sickle came for her, aimed at the leg. It bounced off the flat of her blade but the chain connected at the bottom of the sickle tightened as it was yanked away from her.

"Think you can take me by surprise?"

Ming Yue immediately gave chase, following the sickle as it vanished into the shadows. Suddenly, she found herself in an open space, seeing several flags on the ground. And there were several figures surrounding her, not one but four of them.

"A trap!"

Her mind raced as she looked down, seeing the formation below her glow with power. But as it activated, she brandished both swords, stabbing them into the ground and cutting through the formation.

Letting her power flow into both blades, she tore the ground apart and destroyed it through sheer power.

And then she turned her attention towards the four Muhou Toupe Members.

All four of them had their weapons out, letting them glimmer under the moonlight. One of them was using the sickle and chain, one used a giant chakram, the third wielded a saber, and the fourth had brought out a snake halberd.

Just a single breath passed before they all moved to attack her. Each of their weapons hummed with power as they struck in a coordinated attack.

Ming Yue walked forward to the saber user, striking them with both swords. With Blood Moon, she blocked the saber strike while the Black Blade was thrust into their chest. She spun around, changing places with them and allowing the other three to hit their comrade.

Letting go of the body, she manifested a barrage of Wind Needles, sending them flying at the four figures. Sensing the impending danger, everyone but the saber user pulled back avoiding the attack. But the one they left behind was filled with holes like skewered meat.

She didn't let any of them rest, aiming for the sickle and chain next.

The remaining three worked together to fight her but they were not an opponent for her.

For someone in the Sky Realm like her, these three Earth Realm cultivators were nothing to her. Perhaps if their trap worked, she'd be in some amount of danger but it was unfortunate for them.

Her body vanished into nothingness before appearing behind them, killing the sickle and chain user with ease. Next was the snake halberd user, who died after their weapon was cut in half.

And the last of the four, the one using the chakram dies after repeatedly clashing with those two swords. Against a pair of Sword Spirits, the chakram could not hold up, shattering to pieces in the end.

Their head was sliced off cleanly.
