Chapter 58: Episode 10 Underground_2

After ten days of trekking, the three people and a giant lizard arrived at the "Cave Entrance."

The Underdark is also divided into different depth layers. The closer to the lower levels, the warmer it becomes, and water resources are relatively more abundant, making it more suitable for habitation. However, the further down one goes, the more powerful the creatures become, and the greater the danger. Without formidable strength, even descending a mere meter in the Underdark is an adventure.

Since the Underworld is actually a network of large caves, they are not like the surface where one can just find a direction and walk. They can only pass through connection caves at specific locations. Now, Lynch and his party are in front of a massive tunnel.

"This is the boundary of our Dwarf City. Just one small step forward, and I’ll officially be leaving the Spider Cave," Nimo paused at the entrance, pointing to a stone tablet beside him. "Look here, this is the boundary. The words on it are warnings left long ago: Dwarves should not leave the boundary of the stone tablets, and any creatures encountered beyond this range are not allowed to be brought back to the Dwarf City."

"However," Nimo adjusted the little bag on his back, "this is no reason to stop my progress. Many years later, a Little Dwarf once again actively enters the Underworld."

Deluo, sitting on the lizard’s back, looked at Dwarf Nimo, smiling, "That’s right! Onward! Oh oh oh, Underdark, here I come... hahahaha."

Lynch tucked the map into his waist scroll box, the map gifted by Elder Landa clearly marked the general environment and routes of the Underdark. Combining it with descriptions he had seen before, Lynch carefully avoided many dangers over the past few days. Underground, it’s not just beasts that pose a threat. Perhaps without noticing, you could walk into a toxic gas swamp, where the colorless and odorless gas slowly drains the last ounce of your strength; perhaps, if careless, you’d step on a fragile stone layer, your weight causing the ground to crumble beneath, leaving nothing behind but your scream as you fall into an endless abyss; upon seeing fluorescent fungi covering the cave, with their bluish or greenish light illuminating the stalactites, one should not celebrate too early, who knows if the airborne spores are toxic?

But just as they enter this cave, the map in Lynch’s hand is no longer as clear as the path traversed in the previous days. Many places are only roughly sketched, without any indication of the terrain or potential dangers.

"Let’s go, up ahead everyone needs to be careful. This is not a baseless warning. Keep your ears pricked and observe the surroundings diligently. Don’t play games with your life," Lynch turned back to the two companions with a serious expression.

"Okay, got it. I’ll be careful."

"What are you afraid of? I’m here for everything. When something appears, I’ll just punch it away. But Lynch, those Dark Elf women you mentioned, are they really as sexy and passionate as you say?" Deluo jumped off the lizard, approached the mage, and asked with a shameless grin.

"Yes," Lynch looked at the warrior, "the women there are incredibly open. But stay focused, there’s nearly two months’ journey to Ratris City."

"Lynch, aren’t you a mage? Why not just ’whiz’ us to the destination with your teleportation magic?"

"I’ve never been to Ratris City before. Forcing a teleportation spell would only send us to an uncertain place, like a thick rock layer," Lynch pointed at the granite making up the underground cave. "Plus, I haven’t fully recovered all my magical abilities yet. So, you better rely on your legs to walk slowly."

"Man, it’ll be so long before meeting those adorable Dark Elf sisters," Deluo waved his wooden stick, walking slowly at the front of the group. "But from another perspective, waiting is a form of romance. However, I must switch to a new weapon, this wooden stick is too ugly."

Nimo walked to Lynch’s side, whispering into the mage’s ear, "Um... Lynch, is it okay not to tell him the true nature of the Drow?"

"We’ll tell him then. Without a bit of bait to entice him, this guy would surely wander around. Besides, we didn’t lie, Dark Elves are indeed sexy and open," Lynch explained to Nimo with a smile.

"I hope they have curvaceous bodies and smooth, fine skin. Hehehe, Lynch, teach me some common Dark Elf phrases. It’d be so unromantic if we couldn’t understand each other. Lynch, tell me, what style of poetry or music do they like? Or perhaps they prefer painting? Come on, tell me, so I can prepare in advance..."

The three of them ventured further into the cave, leaving behind Deluo’s booming voice echoing in the enclosed space.

About 3 miles above them is the surface world. Here, as usual, sunlight glimmers magnificently, and the pristine white snow reflects the sun like a mirror, making it appear capable of casting images of clouds in the sky. A small deer leapt from the underbrush, pawing at the ground with its front hooves before lowering its head to chew on the well-hidden grass beneath the snow.

"Rustle, rustle," the sound of snow falling from pine branches echoed as the small deer raised its head, its ears alertly pricked, glancing around before sprinting off in a hurry.

Trees fell in rows, a path forcibly carved through the woods. A completely stone structure advanced slowly. Positioned on wide stone rollers, it extended six-fingered metal arms from either side, three on each. The entire behemoth emitted creaking sounds as it moved through the forest.

Ordinary small trees were crushed outright by its vast stone cylinders; for slightly larger trees, the stone structure would eject flames from the front, burning the obstructing trees into ashes; when faced with rocks in its path, its arms would violently smash down, shattering the obstacles to pieces.

Completely ignoring the terrain of the forest, the structure advanced in an absolutely linear manner, neither accelerating nor slowing down in the slightest.

A lid atop the stone statue opened, and a figure in a gray cloak emerged. With a "hiss" sound, it turned its body all around, examining the surrounding environment. After a moment of observation, it ducked back into the statue.

The stone building continued its relentless advance, showing no signs of fatigue. Ahead of its path lay the elf kingdom—Moon.
