Chapter 314: Episode 16 Magic Bead
The morning sun gradually climbed over the rooftops and then reluctantly began to slowly slide down from the top of Heather Holy Mountain. The songs of the elves never stopped, nor did the calls of the birds. Empress Hernfurry’s narration was like a long poem, but it contained countless Chapters of pain.
The palace meeting had dispersed, leaving only Lynch and Zilvra lingering on the summit’s lookout platform. Soka, whose stomach was growling, was led by Anna to find delicious food; the Elf Queen also had to divide her attention to care for the returned Holy Tree Seeds. The mage wanted to take a high vantage point to reassess the entirety of Salantir, contemplating ways to deal with the undead army’s assault.
"Do you really have to help these elves?" Zilvra said standing beside Lynch: "According to what that female elf said, the undead’s army is very cunning and powerful like a flood. They treat the residents here as prey, hunting freely in the dark of night. That sounds incredibly dangerous. I’m wondering why that elven woman described all this in the Common Language; if she used the Elf Language, something I couldn’t understand, I might not be this worried."
"Her Majesty is not trying to frighten you by using the Common Language; she’s merely stating facts." Lynch sighed: "I didn’t expect there to be such a strong undead army on the Anriel Continent. Why do they crawl out of their cold and damp graves to harass the living creatures in this forest?"
"It’s because the graveyards are chilly and damp." Zilvra smiled: "In the Underworld, we’ve encountered those cold spirits before, and some Drow are even expert necromancers, like those who create soul-bound corpses. When it comes to dealing with such undead monsters, Dark Elves are indeed adept."
"But they can’t possibly come to the Surface World." Lynch gazed into Zilvra’s eyes: "In places illuminated by the sun, the priests of the holy Pate are experts in dispelling the undead, using the power of the Light God to return those souls to the realm of the dead, extinguishing them on earth. However, the Pate Empire is presently embroiled in war, even the Paladin order seeks allies, so they can’t come here to help."
"Don’t you mages have a way?" Zilvra asked: "I’ve seen some mages use skeletons and spirits as servants."
"It’s not that there’s no way, it’s just difficult. Unless one has the magical prowess of a Great Mage, resisting the undead is hard even for mages." Lynch walked to the platform’s edge, placing his hand on the railing intertwined with Holy Tree branches: "In the last battle, the undead weren’t eradicated, it’s uncertain whether they’ll return."
"As I just asked, why must you help these elves?" Zilvra said: "Even disregarding the enmity between Drow and elves, I still think you’re taking too much risk. If you owed them something, and needed to compensate with service, such assistance might be understandable. But I cannot agree with you risking your life to help these pointy-eared forest dwellers for free."
"Even if it’s free help, I would still do it, not to mention I also have a request for them this time." Lynch said with a smile: "On another note, I’m curious to see how formidable these undead truly are."
"You’ve decided to stay and help these guys?" Zilvra moved closer to Lynch, just a step away: "Let me remind you again, the enemy you face is very powerful, you could even lose your life. Even so, you’re determined to stay?"
"It’s hard to change something I’ve decided." Lynch said: "If it’s something I’ve promised, then it must be fulfilled. If true danger arrives, please take Soka to a relatively safe place. Although that little one comes from a powerful race, she has no experience in war."
"I’ll hide Soka. After all, she and I share some similar bloodline." Zilvra continued: "But if battle breaks out, don’t always leave me behind. Even against powerful soul-bound corpses and vampires, I have enough strength in my weapon to carve a path through a sea of blood."
"I believe you." Lynch leaned against the railing, feeling somewhat weary from standing and listening to the Elf Queen for a long time: "As someone who left the Dark World, what’s your take on these undead creatures?"
