Chapter 300: Episode 11 Heather_3
"Hello, friends from the outside world, welcome to Salantir." An elf placed his right hand on his chest and slowly bowed to Lynch and his group: "If you guests wish to taste the sweet fruits of Heather, please follow me."
"Yes! Yes!" Soka clapped her little hands: "Salantir is such a wonderful, wonderful place!"
Among everyone, Zilvra always seemed a bit tense. When the elves’ green eyes glanced over, she would always avert her violet gaze, looking at her reflection in the river. However, the elves didn’t seem to find this strange.
This was not Lynch’s first time in this Elf Kingdom; many years ago, he had followed Anna to this beautiful place and stayed for almost two years. Many elves had met this Human Mage and already regarded him as a friend. This time, revisiting Salantir, Lynch was still as amazed by the scenery as the first time he came.
Zilvra was entering the elf kingdom for the first time. Before, in the mouths of the drow, surface elves were synonymous with weakness. She never imagined that the surface elves could combine the creations of nature with exquisite craftsmanship so perfectly. Spending some time here makes one forget all worries and leave behind all unpleasant feelings.
The waters of Erutalon flowed slowly, and the singing in their ears gradually became clear. Soka and Zilvra immersed themselves in the melodious tune, each note gently plucking at their heartstrings. Coupled with the soft, gentle sunlight, they both unknowingly drifted into a deep sleep.
"Every first-time visitor to Salantir has a hard time not dozing off," the elf said to Lynch: "Last time you came, it was the same with your group. Except for Anna and you, everyone else fell into a comfortable slumber until they reached Heather."
Lynch looked at the two ladies sleeping in each other’s arms and smiled at the elf. Hidden within the drifting melody was a hypnotic power. The elves, long accustomed to the tune, were naturally unaffected. And Mages who have lost the right to dream could easily resist this sound.
"How have things been in Salantir these past years? Is the mead as sweet every year?" Lynch asked the elves.
"Yes, Mage." The elf guards smiled happily: "Every year, we can harvest delicious fruits from the trees, and the brewed mead is incredibly mellow. This time, you will receive the warmest welcome: midsummer is the best time to drink mead."
"I still miss the time spent here. Every visit, I feel the tranquility and peace," Lynch said to the elves: "Now, outside, war clouds are gathering, and unrest is spreading. I think Salantir might still be the last paradise."
"We have also heard about what you mentioned." The lead elf responded: "Even in the world under the sun, shadows slowly grow, and when an evil spark bursts forth, the entire grassland will turn to ash."
He spoke in a gentle tone, as if softly singing:
Even if darkness covers the world,
There is still moonlight shining here;
Thick clouds can’t block it,
The bright silver spills over the earth.
Salantir’s rivers,
Never bring news of chaos;
In Isley & Heather’s woods,
Only gentle breaths ripple.
Floating Erutalon,
Brings harvests to the hands of the happy people;
Sweet mead,
Forever ready to greet the weary
Mellonea (meaning friend)
"Have you also received news from outside?" Lynch said: "The beastmen are coming from the north, this matter might not be simple. Though there’s the Sacred Pate’s Haisas, Müen is surrounded by sea on three sides, and there are no strong defenses in these directions."
"No, my dear Mage friend. Our respected Empress Hernfurry has already foreseen this situation; even on the vast, boundless sea, there are white-sailed ships on day and night watch. Salantir will be well looked after, no living enemy can enter here quietly for destruction."
"It seems that thorough preparations have been made here, I can relax here for a bit." Hearing about the defenses at sea, Lynch knew that his defensive suggestions sent to Anna were already being implemented. The elves, who once thought the sea a natural barrier, also began to accept the Mage’s proposals, with new plans set against all directions.
"Yes, our Empress has also instructed us ’to provide the best hospitality to our guests,’" the elf said: "Ten days ago, she already directed us to wait for your arrival today. Just like all the past successful predictions, Mage, you have arrived in Salantir right on time."
"Why does the esteemed Hernfurry pay so much attention to me, a human? Every prophecy consumes significant energy, even for an elf clan with their long lives, such consumption is heart-wrenching."
"I’m not too sure of Her Majesty’s intentions, but I believe she must have enough reasons for doing so," the elf said: "Each prophecy has steered us clear of possible disasters, guiding us to a safe path. After enduring so many storms and rains, this patch of emerald green forest remains vibrant and full of life. The songs praising peace have always enveloped Heather City, never ceasing."
"I’ve always believed that peace is the world’s most precious thing, but too long a peace could make people complacent."
"Mage friend, I also agree with what you’ve said," the elf nodded: "Our lives are very long, and being able to live forever in happiness is what we most often pray for. However, creatures outside do not share the same patience as us, always sparking conflicts over fleeting things. We’ve seen this and have been trying to improve this state. We elves do not like using strong methods; friendly negotiations are our first choice. But during the negotiation process, time became humanity’s biggest enemy. Other than Mages who can live a bit longer, we elves always need to change meeting partners."
"These are things that can’t be helped," Lynch said: "Humans have the most active minds but cannot last long. Elves have enough patience, yet often don’t move as quickly as changes in the outside world. Every form of life is equal; they just live focusing on different aspects."
"Young Mage, you speak wisely," the elf nodded: "When I was your age, I had just learned to walk among the branches and could barely run. Even though you’ve only been gone for eight years, I dare not measure your now wise soul by the past standards."
"Thank you for your praise," Lynch said: "I’ve just seen relatively more things outside. Compared to the millennium wisdom of the elves, I am but a pitiable grain of sand lying on the boundless coast."
"Friend, our Empress has mentioned you many times; she greatly appreciates you, her words filled with praise. Until you meet her, I will arrange for you to stay at the palace in Heather. Naturally, delicious mead is already waiting there."
