Chapter 268: Episode 3 Funeral_2
"How about the mage?" Zilvra asked curiously, "What could possibly scare a mage like you? Who would dare say ’no’ to you? Even in front of the Dark Elf Matriarch, I’ve never seen you like this."
Lynch hesitated to speak, his Refined Gold Finger tapped continuously on the black iron Magic Wand, the monotonous clanging sound lingering over the camp. After a while, the mage finally said, "I want to go back, I really want to go back. So, I hope you don’t mention that I’m a mage again. Only then can I embark on the journey home."
Felps breathed a sigh of relief. During their adventures, Lynch from Haisas never ventured into his home country’s territory, and whenever a task involved going there, the mage would firmly refuse. This puzzled all his companions, as Lynch was always vague about his family situation. Even to his closest partners, his past life remained an unsolvable mystery.
The mage chanted a spell, and a circular earthen wall surrounded them, with a deep trench outside the wall: "Everyone, get some rest early. The beasts here cannot cross this wall; it will be safe tonight."
Everyone looked at the mage, deeply intrigued by his past. With different thoughts, they drifted into dreams. Only the mage remained awake. Though he kept his eyes closed, the Eye of Insight stared at the bright moonlight in a trance. It was as if the three full moons held a mysterious magic power, tugging at his heartstrings and drawing his thoughts toward his homeland.
To the east of Haisas, there is a river called "Fengduo," flowing down from the Five Realms Mountain Range. It traverses the vast plains, providing abundant water resources to both banks. Combined with fertile land and suitable weather, what more could people here ask for? It’s the harvest season now, under the scorching sun, farmers wield scythes to cut down golden wheat, stacking it into large barns prepared in advance. The joy of harvest has already diluted the heat; their only mood now is happiness and delight.
Along the river, there is a small town called Miska, which in the local language means "dock." From here, the Fengduo River becomes gentle, with fewer rapids and shoals. As a result, white sails have become the most famous scenery here, and fishermen are the most common profession.
The town’s population is not large, and they all make their living from the busy docks here. Especially during the harvest season, mountain-like grains are loaded onto flatboats from this small harbor, slowly flowing downstream along the Fengduo River. They might be turned into refreshing ale or shipped overseas to countries beyond Haisas. What they bring back are those beautiful vessels, lovely clothes, and fascinating stories of the outside world.
The residents here live a monotonous yet blissful life; perhaps they never venture out to see the world. As the Miska people say: "The happy life you yearn for can be found here, so why not stay and enjoy it slowly?"
However, today, the town’s docks were unusually quiet, even though many white sails were anchored, no one was there to accompany them. The town was almost devoid of people, only a few small dogs tied in courtyards were left behind, barking in dissatisfaction.
At this time, Lynch and his companions arrived here. The mage had long changed out of his black robe during the journey, now wearing a broad adventurer’s outfit, with tightly bound sleeves and trousers, adorned with some inexpensive decorations. This made him look like a noble’s doorman, coincidentally passing by on an errand.
"Strange, why is there no one here?" Felps squinted around, shielding his eyes with his hand. But given his halfling height, this action looked rather amusing.
"Soka, go up and see where everyone has gone," Deluo patted the little angel’s head. The latter immediately soared into the air. After this period of training, little Soka’s flying skills had improved significantly compared to when he left the Underdark.
