Chapter 247: Chapter 90: Leaving the Path_2
Zilvra widened her eyes but couldn’t see anything. She looked at Lynch again and finally asked softly, "Could it be coming for us?"
Lynch chuckled, "You really believe it! I just saw it wrong, after all, I’m just a mage, it’s inevitable to misidentify some tracks." He stood up, returned quickly to the back of the lizard, and acted as if nothing had happened, "Let’s keep moving. Just stay on guard."
Zilvra frowned and sat back beside the mage. She stared at the mage for a while and whispered, "What are those guys up to? Are they related to us?"
The mage placed a finger on his lips, "They’re not related to us. Let’s focus on the road ahead."
Although Lynch said so, he was still troubled by what he had just seen. With the aid of the Eye of Insight, he could clearly see the traces left on the ground. The wave-like footprints crossed the road but were deliberately cleaned and concealed. There’s nothing unusual about the stone walls on both sides of the road, but they’ve long been dug with two passages, only now sealed with freshly shaped stone and mud. The Stone Shaping Skill and Mud to Stone can easily achieve this effect. With clairvoyance, clearer traces can be seen within those passages.
But what worried Lynch the most was not this. The wave-like footprints resembled a snake’s movement. Judging by the width of the footprints, they most likely belonged to snake-men. But the mage doubted how there could be so many snake-men in the Underdark. So many snake-men appearing in that sinkhole-like cave last time was already surprising, and after Soka’s parents’ efforts to clear them out, there shouldn’t be so many snakes in this Underworld where snake-men don’t usually reside.
The only explanation in this situation is that these guys were definitely commissioned from elsewhere with a purpose. Lynch took out a map and looked at the terrain marked on it. In the direction the snake-men advanced, only one name caught his attention: "Ratris City."
"Impossible," Lynch shook his head, "Could these snake-men be intending to attack Ratris City? Absolutely not. Although the first and second families suffered significant losses, the power of other Dark Elves cannot be underestimated. Even though they like infighting, they’re ruthless against external races, and the Spider Goddess would never allow such creatures to cause trouble in her domain."
Because of this, Lynch felt there was no need to worry everyone. Even though everyone appeared calm and composed, they were still concerned about whether the Dark Elves would take action. Adding the news about the snake-men, who knows what kind of effect it might have.
On the other hand, Zilvra understood the mage’s actions. To some extent, she was the most understanding of the mage. Because she relied on Lynch to take her out of the Dark Elf World, Zilvra keenly observed Lynch’s actions. In her view, Lynch initially showing concern was his true expression, only deliberately acting later to conceal certain matters. Zilvra didn’t believe a mage would make meaningless moves.
However, she was not accustomed to being directed by a man. Zilvra moved closer to Lynch and said, "Mage, I didn’t expect your observation skills to be so good. In that case, I’ll rest. Make sure to keep an eye on the road ahead." With that, she threw the reins of the lizard to the mage and covered herself with a thick blanket, settling in for sleep.
Lynch smiled as he took the reins, watching the female Drow slip into sleep.
When Zilvra woke up, the lizard beneath her had already stopped, and the surroundings appeared unfamiliar, but the mage was nowhere to be seen. She quickly leapt off the mount, her weapon held firmly in her hand upon landing.
No one was around, only the little angel Soka perched motionlessly atop another lizard, with his head buried deeply under his wings.
Zilvra moved silently and cautiously, her hand slightly sweating. She had never felt such tension and worry when she traversed alone before.
A fragrant aroma wafted over, resembling roasted meat. Zilvra immediately held her breath. To her knowledge, many poisons smelled similar to food. Could her companions have been harmed by such poison? The female Drow’s heartbeat quickened as Lynch’s face filled her thoughts—this mage shouldn’t be so careless!
Soka’s body moved, and his white wings spread out suddenly. The little angel closed his eyes, his small nose sniffing earnestly as he dreamily floated toward the aroma.
Just as Zilvra was about to pull little Soka back—if it were in Ratris City, she wouldn’t care about others’ lives—a series of light footsteps approached from around the corner. Zilvra’s left hand went to the crossbow trigger, aiming for that corner.
Lynch appeared with a small silver plate holding several pieces of roasted meat. He approached Zilvra while murmuring words over the meat and sprinkling powder on it.
"Oh! You’re already up!" Lynch smiled at the fully alert female Drow, "Nimo just roasted some meat. I brought you some, go ahead and eat." Then he lowered his voice, "The spices aren’t complete, and the dwarf’s cooking wasn’t fully showcased. I used magic to adjust the flavor a bit; give it a try."
Zilvra suddenly remembered the first time she met Lynch and his companions when she pretended to be an ignorant adventurer and shared their roasted meat.
She laughed genuinely this time, relaxedly putting away her weapon and approaching Lynch.
"Why is there only meat? No fruit?" Soka hovered overhead, "If there’s no fruit, then is there any salad? I don’t like eating meat!"

Once this book stabilizes in VIP, I’ll resume the update speed of the online game. For now, focus on the featured recommendation of "Mage Story" as the primary task.
If you’re struggling to find something to read, you might want to check out that online game first, quenching your thirst with plums—although, I estimate more people will be urging updates for that book than this one...
