Chapter 214: Episode 78 Main Course_2
This reckless fighting style gave the Dark Elf a headache. The martial arts of the Drow emphasized agility and a lethal strike; their thin swords always aimed for the opponent’s throat and heart, or pierced through the unprotected eyes to pierce the enemy’s fragile brain. However, the soul-bound corpse was not afraid of such attacks. No matter how precise the sword stabs were, they couldn’t stop their actions. Only a Barbarian-like attack that could smash the opponent into a pulp with one blow would render them incapable of further combat. On the contrary, their offensive-only strategy greatly restricted the Drow Guard’s movements, making it twice as difficult for them to dodge. Although the Dark Elf suffered no major damage for the time being, the number of soul-bound corpses was decreasing, but these undead successfully compressed the Drow’s activity range. It would only be a matter of time before the Dark Elf was massively annihilated due to having nowhere to hide.
Lynch took this time to layer himself with multiple protections, from the simplest "Mage Armor" to the practical "Mirror Image Technique." As for the spells to protect against mind control and defenses against various Elements, he didn’t miss a single one. The people of the second family were not fools; their defensive counterattack would soon arrive, at which point it would evolve into a melee. It was not a place where you could avoid injury simply by not wanting to be hurt, even if you focused on the enemy in front of you, you might still get hit by stray bullets.
Batana Matron waved her hand, and the elite soldiers of the first family immediately advanced in force. Their goal was the Dark Elf’s stronghold itself. At this moment, the slave soldiers of the second family finally arrived on the battlefield, not even having the time to put on their armor completely, they hurriedly ran up with simple weapons. On their exposed bodies, were fresh red whip marks, indicating the extent of the second family’s efforts in driving these warriors.
The first family’s troops immediately leaped in place while casting the Levitation Skill. They quickly reached a height out of reach of the slave troops, avoiding this wave of attacks. Those Ogre and Troll units didn’t have time to put on their armor, let alone be fully equipped with bows and crossbows. A few arrows sparsely flew into the air but were insufficient to cause effective casualties in the presence of the Dark Elf’s superb defensive swordsmanship.
However, the members of the first family did not give up this vantage point for shooting; they were fully armed, with all the equipment brought fully. They drew their crossbows and began shooting.
But their target was not these slaves; instead, it was the Dark Elf guard fighting the soul-bound corpses. They had been compressed into a narrow range and naturally became the most valuable target. The slave armies were just cannon fodder; without a Floating Ability, they could no longer significantly impact the battle. Moreover, after the battle, these slaves would generally become the victor’s spoils, so shooting at them now was absolutely not worth it.
Lynch’s heart found a reason: the poison smeared on the Crossbow Arrows wasn’t cheap and might have already exceeded the cost of purchasing a slave’s life.
The soul-bound corpses were unafraid of poisoned arrows from enemies or allies, continuing their actions without a moment’s delay. At this moment, the guards had already suffered heavy losses under the shooting.
The Ogres and Trolls leaped at the soul-bound corpses, finally alleviating the pressure on this group of Drow Warriors. Seizing this time, they quickly took to the sky, leisurely trailing the first family forward. However, to avoid the ever-present crossbow fire, their speed was noticeably sluggish.
Lynch used a flying technique, not the Floating Ability of the Drow Elves, enjoying flexibility and high speed not possessed by other Dark Elves. Since Zilvra had to stay by the matron’s side to participate in the battle, Lynch, who initially didn’t want to enter the stronghold, had no choice but to brace himself and follow closely with all his focus on the main force. Down below, the Ogre slave battalion was beneath them, each weapon, like axes and spears, being thrown up one after another. Using their brute force, they tossed any movable object around them as ammunition, launching it high into the air to intercept the invaders.
The Dark Elves merely needed to easily increase their height again to avoid these thrown weapons’ attacks. The axes, after all, would fall, retaining the same lethality as when they left the hand, but they could veer in any direction. For a while, the Ogres below Lynch howled continuously, attacked by their companions’ weapons, with flying axes leaving horrific wounds on them and spears creating continuously bleeding flesh pits.
At this point, Lynch was no longer worried about the slave army’s impact; he thought of the two monsters from the first family that had been lurking at the entrance. They had regional Anti-Magic capabilities, and once covered by this effect, the Floating Technique would absolutely lose its effectiveness. The people of the first family would fall from the air into the encirclement of the Ogres below.
If this happened, Lynch too would fall inexorably. He had previously tested his abilities in an Anti-Magic Field; although it was extremely difficult, he still could cast magic, but any spells already cast on him would definitely disappear. If such a thing happened, a mage considering himself without hand-to-hand combat ability would undoubtedly be the first to be torn to pieces by the Ogres.
Thinking of this, Lynch immediately sped up his flight, surpassing all the Drow Elves and heading toward the second family’s stronghold. Now he had two choices: remain invisible and either eliminate this hidden danger or turn around and leave. However, since Zilvra would undoubtedly participate fully in this battle, Lynch couldn’t leave her behind and flee on his own, making the path ahead for the mage quite clear and unmistakable.
He was the first to land at the Dark Elf Family’s stronghold, standing at the platform’s edge on the second floor. The stronghold’s design originally had no connection between the first and second floors to prevent lower-level slaves from entering the core area of the Dark Elf Family. Now, however, this architectural style left the second family’s massive slave troops unable to support the priests and elite warrior guards inside the stronghold. The invaders, who originally needed to break through groups of cannon fodder, now safely landed in front of the stronghold’s gate with almost no losses.
Because all non-Dark Elf members, whether they were poorly equipped slave warriors or the meticulously crafted soul-bound corpses, were just consumables, originally meant to pave the way for the Drow’s victory and were not considered "losses."
Lynch’s Eye of Insight surveyed the second family’s lair, finding no traps or ambushes. Seeing this, he couldn’t help but feel strange. No matter how unexpected this assault was, the second family couldn’t still be unresponsive, could they? Where were the priests? Where were the elite warriors and the Martial Arts Master? Where were the Combat Beasts they raised? Most importantly, what was their matron doing?
Without complex analysis and speculation, Lynch solely relied on his nose to smell the scent of conspiracy. Glancing at Batana’s approaching army, he hid to one side.
"You have Beastmen as cannon fodder to pave the way; I am walking the road you paved." Lynch felt the overwhelming battle intent and killing intent of the Dark Elves, yet he lightly leaned on his Powerful Wand, coldly gazing at this battle.
