Chapter 197: Episode 72 Dual Battle

Lynch propped himself up with one hand on the ground, and the Powerful Wand lay at his feet. His face was pale, as if a layer of frost had settled on the tip of his nose, and even his breath turned into a white mist.

The chill that had just pierced his heart seemed to have drained all the mage’s strength, and he felt his life force continuously depleting. He could react to external attacks and magic, taking reasonable and effective preparations to minimize potential damage, but this sudden assault from within was something the mage couldn’t defend against in time.

This feeling reminded him of an incident he once experienced at the Mage Academy. When his mastery of magic was still immature, he tried to summon a celestial being but accidentally brought an Abyss Hell Banshee to his side. The alluring banshee held an unimaginable appeal to the young mage, and if the Great Mage hadn’t arrived quickly sensing something amiss, Lynch would have been drained of life force and turned into a "dried human."

However, now, although the mage wouldn’t become a "dried human," the continuous battle consumption and long periods without proper rest had brought him to the brink of death. This red mist must have absorbed a great deal of energy from the mage’s body, making him so weak, while the mist itself grew exceptionally powerful using the stolen energy.

"I finally remember!" The red mist constantly quivered, slowly drifting towards the mage. As it approached, Lynch’s body temperature further dropped. The red mist spoke in a very low voice, "Mages, they’re all damned things!"

"Finder! What exactly are you trying to do?" Lynch had to support himself with both hands, his shoulders constantly trembling, and his arms swayed like small trees in a windstorm. The mage felt his elbows and wrists cracking under pressure—a large amount of life force had been lost, leaving Lynch’s body extremely fragile.

"Finder? How dare you mention Finder in front of me!" The red mist seemed enraged, churning its form like boiling water, and fiercely spoke to Lynch: "You mages never care about the people around you! Abandoning a poor child! You imprisoned my soul, locked me in a bloodless, fleshless iron body! You indulge in those boring, damned magic studies, but let your children face metal blocks! Mage! That’s what you call yourselves! You creatures still aspire to rule the world, to become gods of the world? Pah!"

Lynch finally understood, the red mist now was not Finder but the original spirit of the golem. Initially combined, the golem’s power had now surpassed Finder himself. Who would have thought the Great Arcanist of the past would use the soul of a living being to create a golem? This method could greatly reduce, even avoid, the mage’s own drain, allowing them to quickly build a powerful battle puppet army.

But now was not the time to admire the past mages’ exquisite craftsmanship or judge whether their actions were right or wrong. The more pressing issue was that if the red mist continued like this, Lynch’s life force would be completely drained.

For such incorporeal creatures, as a mage, there are indeed quite a few methods to consider. Although most spells cannot inflict real harm on such creatures, there are a series of specially developed arcane spells like "Strike Undead" that can come in handy. But today, Lynch happened not to have prepared these spells.

He glanced around, Soka was standing nearby, staring perplexedly at the kneeling mage. To her, the red mist was invisible, and the little angel couldn’t understand what exactly made the mage so "strange." She held a red gemstone in her hand, unsure of what to do.

Lynch thought, celestial beings generally have a strong aversion to undead, many of them naturally endowed with the ability to banish undead. Although Soka was young, she was born into the most powerful Seraph lineage, and she might likely possess such power.

"Soka! Can you banish undead? If you can, show it now!" Lynch shouted with all his strength.

The little angel blinked and put one finger in her mouth, shyly saying, "What are undead?" Then, her eyes suddenly widened, and with a smile, she loudly said as if seeking praise, "Is it like evil spirits? I can banish evil spirits!"
