Chapter 167: 59 episodes Message_2

"Wait a minute!" Seeing the mage’s expression change from worried to decisively determined, Deluo said, "What are you going to do? I’ll go with you."

"No, I’m heading to the stronghold of the First Family now, and you can’t come with me. From now on, we’ll probably have to act separately." Lynch stood in the center of the room and said, "I’ll take care of that Tracking Array, and the issue with the Angel is also up to me. Do me a favor and protect Little Finger." The mage walked over to Nimo, patting the dwarf’s head, "Since I took you away from your hometown, I’ve never given you a single day of peace; we’ve always been venturing, on the brink of life and death, and now you’re trapped here because of me. I’m truly sorry..."

"No... no problem at all." Nimo was startled by the mage’s expression and stammered a response.

"Do you really have to do this?" Deluo pulled out his double-headed sword, "You know I’m still a decent warrior, I can help you."

"No, Deluo, thank you." The mage picked up his magic wand that had just been tossed in the corner, "My strength is enough to protect myself, rather it’s the two little ones who need protecting, you should stay with them." Lynch naturally meant Nimo and Felps, the two small ones.

"Alright, you’re the mage, you’ll surely make the best decision." Deluo grinned, making a smiling face to console the mage, though he still felt the mage was troubled, "However, you owe me one. In the future, you’ll have to listen to me once as compensation!"

"Alright!" Lynch picked up his backpack, which contained his usual books and papers, and some measuring and crafting tools.

The mage left the inn and walked towards the Bernie family. He started slow, but as time passed, his steps became more assured and resolute.

The day after he concluded the temple operation, the mage once again stood before the Refined Gold gates of the Bernie family. This was his only time voluntarily standing before these gates. The huge family crest still adorned the Refined Gold gates, but it no longer conveyed the strong sense of oppression to Lynch as it did the first time he came. Looking at this crest, the mage felt something was missing.

Or perhaps, the mage had gained something.

The Powerful Wand knocked on the Refined Gold gate, producing a clear metallic sound. Two Dark Elf Warriors approached, scrutinizing Lynch—even though they had acted together before, it was a necessary precaution to prevent someone from infiltrating in disguise.

After carefully examining Lynch’s badge, they slowly opened the tightly shut gate, and the several Drow hidden behind the statues lowered their bows aimed at the mage.

Lynch quickly arrived at the family’s meeting room. Usually, unless there was an extremely important matter, the priests wouldn’t stay in the Audience Room. Batana was meditating in this room. She stood up and looked at the suddenly visiting Lynch: "Adviser Mage, what’s the reason for your visit today?"

"Respected Matron," Lynch nodded to her, then looked at the Drow woman before him, "I have a request. When I first arrived in Ratris City, I was forbidden from entering the Mage Guild’s Black Crystal Tower and couldn’t consult scrolls and knowledge about various magic, unless I obtained the consent of a matron." Lynch observed Batana’s expression; the Dark Elf surely understood the mage’s request, but neither agreement nor disagreement showed on her face.

"So now, I hope to gain your approval to enter that Black Crystal Tower."

"You can, Adviser Mage, your request is reasonable and not difficult to fulfill." Batana answered calmly, "But before that, I want you to do something."

"Then please tell me, Matron, I’m all ears."

"Go and kill Zarra, that’s my order." The matron’s voice remained very calm.

Lynch frowned, his fingers gently tapping on the Powerful Wand, staying silent for a moment. Meanwhile, Matron Batana was in no hurry, watching the mage and quietly waiting.

"Respected Matron," Lynch smiled, "I’m an Adviser Mage, not an Assassin."

"In the Dark Elf Family, my words are the law." The matron chuckled lightly too, "Adviser? That’s just a name. Here, in this house, you should know who is the master."

"Hmm, you’re right, mighty Priest of the Spider Goddess. Indeed, you are the master of this house, but you are not my master." Lynch smiled, and his wand traced a semicircle in the air, leaving a faint purple trail. "Strictly speaking, I’m hired to provide services, and now I just want to receive some remuneration I’m entitled to. Of course, if you call it a reward, that’s also acceptable."

"Mage, do you really think there’s no chance against Zarra? I don’t blame you, Dark Elf priests are formidable beings, it’s understandable not to want to face such terrors, especially when Zarra is among the most outstanding of the Spider Goddess Priests."

"Respected Matron, whether or not I face her, or if I dare or not, wish to or not, or can or cannot face her is irrelevant," Lynch’s voice remained calm.

"Male! You are indeed one of the most stubborn characters I’ve ever met." The matron burst into laughter but only uttered a few words before her laughter abruptly ceased. Batana glared at the mage with a grim expression, "Who do you think you are, daring to bargain with me?"

"I’m merely a Human Mage, that I have not forgotten, respected Matron Batana." Lynch still wore a smile, "Matron, I hope you also don’t forget this fact."

"Male! Are you threatening me? Do you think those spells, those arcane arts, those tricks that weaklings use to numb themselves and gain a little bit of confidence, hold any sway before the Spider Goddess!" The matron continued, "Put away your gimmicks and face the formidable Divine Power!"

"Respected Matron, I must say, you are the best Dark Elf Priest I have ever seen, powerful and eloquent. However, your personal strength can’t help the First Family through the current difficulties." Lynch put away the smile on his face, "Even if you display your power, this power will become weak and powerless after the display. But, whether internally or externally, this castle is fraught with hidden dangers, am I right, Matron?"

"You’re an eloquent and clever person, but I wonder if your hands are as skilled as your tongue." Matron Batana walked to Lynch, standing no more than five steps away from the mage.

She revealed a confident victorious smile, "If you swear loyalty to me, I can give you Zilvra. After all, she’s just a white-skinned one. Mage, what do you say?"
