Chapter 165: 58 episodes Ignition_2

The large gates were tightly closed, and above them, the Spider Goddess Statue intricately carved with gemstones and precious metals remained as captivating as ever. The Matron placed her hand on the gate, closed her eyes for a moment, and then gently pushed the door open.

The heavy doors slowly opened, revealing the entire room. On both sides, the glow lamps ignited with a soft blue flame in succession, a light gentle on the Drow’s eyes but bright enough to reveal the colors around them. The Matron’s throne stood quietly yet appearing slightly lonely on the steps, with cushions made of animal hide lazily draped over one corner. The tall backrest, carved with the family crest in gold, awaited the return of its rightful ruler in silence.

The Matron entered the room with a hint of confusion, her steps slow but echoing loudly with each footfall. Thump, thump, thump. The sound echoed like war drums in the empty space. All the Dark Elf priestesses were on full alert, their hands ready with deadly spells, eyes fixed on potentially ambushed corners. All the Drow knew the value of striking first.

Batana resumed her place on the throne, shifting her body slightly, as if to test whether this was indeed the chair she was familiar with. With a slightly puzzled expression, almost as if questioning, yet also as if talking to herself, she murmured softly, "Is this it? Is this everything?"

No one answered her.

But it wasn’t that no one could answer her.

Lynch, endowed with the Eye of Insight, had been scanning the house incessantly along the way. If drawn into an internal conflict among the Dark Elves, only two outcomes were possible: to slaughter the opponent completely or be obliterated by them — he dared not relax at such a time. Yet what puzzled him was that the castle bore no signs of being stormed: no destruction, no plunder, no blood or corpses, only the patrolling Drow and nothing else.

The castle was just as it was when they left, with only some gatekeeping monsters of the family as inhabitants, besides the quiet atmosphere.

Batana furrowed her brows and sat silently on her throne, engrossed in thought. A division of the Dark Elf returned to report that indeed, there were no signs of an intrusion within the castle.

"Then," the Matron paused before speaking, "Half the warriors must start patrolling immediately, while the others are to receive further treatment and rest. Zarra, you are responsible for this. Arrange the defenses well, and do not allow any mistakes!"

"Sinaphi, go to the Glory Spider Goddess Temple right away to check the situation. You know how to apply pressure to the other families. Also, Pleesta and Zarra, both of you go to find your respective informants and report the latest information and situation immediately!"

"The other priestesses, begin inspecting every corner of the family’s defenses without the slightest negligence. The Great Goddess is watching you, prove your worth!"

"As for you, Adviser Mage, what do you intend to do?" Batana, after assigning tasks to the Dark Elves, tilted her head and looked at Lynch.

The mage was most eager to learn about Littlefinger Felps, but he wished to steer clear from the Dark Elves’ internal war as much as possible. "Honorable Matron, if possible, I’d like to visit the city. Perhaps my presence will draw out those hiding in the shadows, or avert damages from conspirators to the family during this critical time."

Batana thought for a moment; indeed, there seemed to be nothing that necessitated the Adviser Mage’s presence at the family. Keeping him here meant retaining a powerful combat force, but letting him go clearly had more advantages — he could be a decoy, diverting others’ attention. When the mage first came to Ratris City, a struggle over his allegiance had already occurred. Now, it’s time for the adviser to play this role again. Besides, with him nearby, the Matron couldn’t completely trust him.

"Alright!" Batana agreed to the mage’s request.

Thus, Lynch left the First Family’s grounds. His heart urged him to return to the inn as swiftly as possible, but his mind advised maintaining normalcy, avoiding impatience, and concealing his anxiety.

On the streets of Ratris City, only the figure of a mage dressed in a black robe moved, like the sole ghost in a Dead City, gliding silently through the district until he returned to the "Inn" tavern.

Upon opening the tavern door, a cataclysmic explosion echoed from the city’s southernmost area, a blaze shooting skyward and illuminating the vast cavern. The glow of the Black Crystal Tower paled in comparison. The sudden, thunderous sound was like a sledgehammer, slicing through the air on its path forward, striking a chord deep within every person’s heart, even causing Lynch to sway slightly.

The mage glanced up at the towering flames; they didn’t seem to ignite from the ground but rather descended from above, as if fiery palms slammed down, pinning buildings to the ground with immense heat and pressure. Lynch calculated the flames’ location; it should be the territory of the Fifth Family.

It was as if sparked by the flames; the entire Ratris City, after a brief pause, began to buzz again. Lynch even felt like the city was awakening from a slumber, every cell starting to function, and taut bowstrings poised to unleash. Although the streets remained deserted, the mage believed that those eyes, accustomed to peering in the dark, had begun to seek targets.

The fuse was lit; now, it remained to be seen how things would unfold.

The mage closed the inn’s door as tightly as he had upon entering. He turned his head to see Stone Legs crouching behind the bar, a portrait of heightened vigilance: "You’re back. What’s happening outside?"

"It seems the Fifth Family might have been attacked," the mage replied, quickly heading upstairs, "You should hide a little longer. Has Deluo returned?"

"They have, been back for a while."

When the mage judged Stone Legs could no longer see him, he sprinted back to his room.

Opening the room door, Deluo and Nimo were crouched by the window, watching the towering flames, their entire faces lit a bright red. They had also seen the mage’s return and so turned to close the window.

"Well? Did you see Littlefinger?" Lynch hurriedly inquired.

"We did, but the situation is somewhat complex..." Deluo began.
