Chapter 141: 48 episodes Temple (Part 1)_2

"Well done, male!" Although Matron Batana was astonished by the Mage’s ability, such mastery of magic was not beyond her scope of understanding. The family had a few Mages who could penetrate this stone pillar, but to do so with such speed and elegance was unlikely. Thinking of this, she involuntarily observed the wand the Mage had just used to cast a spell for the first time.

"I’ve seen this wand before!" Such a thought sprang to Matron Batana’s mind, "Isn’t this the wand of the old Mage Vizren? Yes, definitely! This is his Powerful Wand." Batana thought of the Magic Academy represented by that old man and began to suspect the Mage’s purpose in coming to the first family. "Could he be a spy sent by the Mages? Those lowly males think that a bit of spellcasting ability allows them to climb over our heads again? No, impossible!"

"Hmph! Not bad at all!" The matron raised her chin, giving the Mage a disdainful glance, "Tarren, take the first squad down to check the situation first!"

"Yes, Matron." A skinny Dark Elf hurriedly released his hands from rubbing his painful eyes and drew a scimitar from his waist. With a wave to those behind him, a thirty-strong squad composed of trolls and goblins rushed down the spiral floor inside the stone pillar.

These were definitely genuine cannon fodder — Lynch watched the movements of this ragtag group and noticed their equipment consisted only of the simplest stone sticks as weapons, while their armor was merely thin leather. He guessed even the leading Dark Elf held no actual status; he was just another expendable pawn.

Then Batana waved her hand, and the elite Dark Elf unit, along with the Mage Lynch, cautiously ventured underground, following closely behind the cannon fodder. A considerable number of "backup sacrifices" also trailed closely behind them.

The Mage walked beside Zilvra, his Eye of Insight scrutinizing every corner around them. The temple of this ancient god exerted a tremendous attraction on him as a Mage. That lost history was both a devastating catastrophe and a time of heroic flourish. Any relics or records from that era were powerful and mysterious.

After all, during the war between Mages and the gods, numerous skills and items vanished without a trace.

As they continued downwards, the passage grew broader, while the ground beneath them became moist. The spiral staircase descended about thirty meters, leading them into a hall.

A modest hall, devoid of any adornments, with bare floors and walls. However, the Mage noticed several mottled patches on the wall where the color differed slightly from other areas, suggesting they once held something — perhaps murals or statues, but had been thoroughly cleaned.

The leading team halted in this hall, hesitating to proceed forward. In front of them was a wall with five equally-sized large doors.

Each door was topped with different carvings, worn by time, with many parts cracked or even missing. Stubborn moss growths comically adorned these statues with green decorations. Nevertheless, the Mage could still decipher what the five sculptures represented. From right to left, they were:

The first was a bare left foot;

The second was a left hand holding an enormous shield, with a stone eyeball hanging from the shield;

The third was a head with a gaping maw, its right eye socket empty;

The fourth was a right hand wielding an enormous scimitar;

The last was a right foot clad in a steel boot.

Matron Batana muttered under her breath, "To pass the final step of sacrifice..." Her voice was soft, yet Lynch caught her low murmur.

"Lynch, be careful, this place should be called the Temple of Limbs," Finder’s voice reached Lynch’s ear. Sneaking out of the refined gold arm, undeterred by the spirit’s chilling presence that made the Mage tremble, Finder wormed into Lynch’s Dark Elf Robe, perched on his shoulder to speak.

In a hushed voice, Lynch let out a faint sound through parted lips, "Finder, tell me more about this place."

"Oh, let me briefly explain. This cult had a good relationship with the Great Arcanist Association in the past. They were also seeking a way to become gods through their own power, though their method involved abandoning their physical bodies to achieve spiritual elevation — insane, right? They severed their limbs, replaced their organs, hoping to become purer, eventually exchanging even their own head."
