Chapter 136: Episode 46 Departure_2

"Take this ring and this letter." The Mage handed these two items to Deluo, "Do me this favor..."

Deluo naturally understood the Mage’s meaning. He took the items and carefully put them away, "Rest assured, take care of yourself."

Lynch waved his hand and left the inn. He followed behind two Dark Elves, quickly heading towards the first family’s stronghold. Along the way, all passersby hurriedly avoided the path of these three people, each with head lowered, not daring to meet the gaze of the first family’s warriors, fearing their eyes might offend the Drow and ignite their wrath. Everyone in the city now knew that the Berni family was gathering strength, and no one wanted to be the unfortunate soul caught in the tempest of emotions at this time.

The grand Refined Gold gates of the first family slowly opened in front of Lynch, and the Mage felt that entering this castle-like stronghold this time would be the fuse for an earthquake, with him at the center of a storm.

After signaling to the Mage, the two Dark Elves left, their figures seeming to melt into the darkness instantly. Lynch knew they were now doing their utmost to ensure nothing would go wrong before the mission began. However, the Mage estimated that even these family warriors might not know who they would be facing. But the training they received since childhood meant they wouldn’t be concerned with such matters; they only needed to know when to start attacking, that was all.

Today, Matron Batana was clad in her Secret Silver Armor, over which she wore a black robe representing a high-ranking priest. She held a nine-headed snake whip in one hand and a rectangular black iron insignia in the other, muttering words. Most of the family was present, and Lynch went directly to his spot, but opposite him, the Martial Monk Regula was absent. And Zilvra, that half-Celestial female Dark Elf, was not standing beside the Matron either.

Zarra looked at the Mage who appeared before her with a mocking gaze; a human, living under weakening sunlight, comfort and ease had long sapped their fighting spirit—a fragile species!

Lynch sensed her gaze, lifted his head, and looked at Zarra. His eyes suddenly switched to the mode of the Eye of Insight, losing the whites, emitting only endless black.

Zarra was shocked. She had never seen such a phenomenon. The blackness of those eyes seemed to penetrate right through everything shielding her, directly stabbing into her innermost being, surveying, observing, even appraising her soul. She couldn’t help but want to retreat from that gaze’s scrutiny but found there was nowhere to hide; on the other hand, that black gaze seemed like a vortex, pulling everything into that deep black center, spinning, struggling, crying out but unable to escape. She felt her soul gradually drifting away from her body, irresistibly wanting to approach the Mage, to integrate into his eyes, to enter his body...

The door burst open with a bang, and Zilvra dressed in a warrior’s attire, swiftly entered. She paid no mind to the way other Dark Elves looked at her—that disdainful gaze reserved for a female Drow who was not a priest of the Spider Goddess, eyes filled with loathing. As Zilvra passed by the Mage, seeing him standing unharmed in the Mage Robe she had sent over, a slight smile appeared at the corner of her mouth, vanishing in an instant.

Lynch’s gaze caught that slight smile. He found no trace of malice, no Dark Elf cunning or pretense, no deceit, no trickery, nor superior disguise in that smile. At that moment, Zilvra was smiling from the heart, with her soul. That smile was even more genuine than the innocent smile she showed the first time she appeared before Lynch.

Though it was just a brief smile, it left a deep impression on the Mage’s heart.

Zarra barely freed herself from Lynch’s gaze, now drenched in cold sweat. For the first time, she realized she had underestimated this human’s strength and overestimated her own. If she faced him now, this human might take away her fighting spirit with just a look and easily claim her life. Contained within this Mage was an unrivaled power.

For the first time in her life, Zarra felt her Priest Robe was too revealing. From her exposed arms, waist, thighs, to her sensuous little feet, she felt the icy cold. She felt she needed more fabric to warm her frail body. She softly called upon the name of the Spider Goddess in her heart, hoping to draw a little strength from faith, but couldn’t help once again looking at the Mage Lynch.

She even wished to truly fall into that gaze, to eternally plunge into it, allowing herself to completely succumb just once...

But Lynch’s eyes left Zilvra’s face, focusing on the ground beneath him, no longer looking at the fragile Dark Elf Zarra. Within this woman who always dreamed of becoming a Dark Elf Matriarch, a new desire was born.

"Departure is tonight; all preparations are ready." Matron Batana furrowed her brow, as if troubled thoughts still swirled within her mind, "You may have heard some news, previously a significant Kobold captive escaped from the prison. Yes, there’s nothing secretive about it; it did happen." Batana waved her Snake Head Whip angrily and said, "She even took very important intelligence for this mission with her."

The Matron gazed at the deathly silent crowd below, satisfied with their imperturbable reactions. She continued, "That information resides within my mind. Hmph! I want to see who dares to stand in the way of the first family!"

"With the Spider Goddess’s blessing, we carry the honorable task bestowed upon us by her, we will not fail!" Zarra started with a trembling voice but soon returned to her usual domineering tone, "Our first family is always the strongest!" She turned her head to look at the silent Mage, speaking with a hint of anticipation, "Lynch, isn’t that right?"

She hoped the Mage would look at her again.

Lynch did not lift his head. A calm and brief response drifted out from under that aged Dark Elf Mage hood, "Yes."

"Then good, everyone make the final preparations!" Batana waved her Snake Head Whip, ending the meeting.
