Chapter 111: 35 episodes Old man_2
"Who are you?" Lynch sat down, his hand never leaving the Powerful Wand. In the Dark Elf city, anyone could be an enemy. A Mage must be extremely careful.
"No need to be so tense, young man. My name is Vizren, but my surname doesn’t hold much meaning anymore, though these things don’t matter. All you need to know is my name." The old Mage looked at the three people in front of him and smiled gently, "No need to be so nervous. If I wanted to harm you, why would I bring you to my private box? The decor here is quite expensive."
"So, Mage Vizren, why exactly did you find us?" Lynch asked.
"That wand," the old Mage pointed at the wand in Lynch’s hand, "I created that wand."
"Really? Are you going to take it back? It’s only worth a few Gold Coins." Deluo glanced at the exquisite tea set placed in front of the lounge chair, "Isn’t everything here worth more than that?"
"I naturally don’t want to take it back, but to say that wand was taken by my student to test your Magic sensitivity." The voice continued from the darkness, "Additionally, they also set up a decent positioning perception Magic inside, capable of tracking your movements at any time."
"So the Magic inside was stealthily inserted by you. It’s really clever."
"No, it’s still not good enough. Otherwise, how could you have deciphered it? Moreover, the wand seems to have restored its energy now, which is quite surprising." However, the old Mage’s tone didn’t carry a hint of surprise.
Lynch now felt a bit regretful about restoring the wand’s power so quickly. From the hidden Magic Array inside, he should have realized that this wand might be problematic, possibly a trap set by someone else. In other words, this wand was being closely monitored. But he fully repaired it in just a few hours, naturally attracting the attention of those concerned. A Mage using the Magic Network wouldn’t be able to repair it so quickly.
"Regardless of how you accomplished this, I must tell you one thing," the old Mage continued, "Do not teach this method to anyone."
"What?" Lynch thought this Dark Elf wanted him to reveal the secret of how he replenished the wand’s energy. But the current situation had already exceeded his expectations.
"Mage, warrior, and this Dwarf, what do you think about human nature?" Mage Vizren suddenly asked.
But before the three of them could answer, the Old Dark Elf raised his arm from the shadows, pointing towards the arena platform, "The duel is about to begin. Let’s watch the match first."
Lynch could clearly see the Dark Elf Mage in the shadows with his Eye of Insight. He was about to speak and continue his inquiry but saw the old Mage shake his head and again point towards the Duel Arena.
Lynch had to close his mouth and turn to look at the gigantic crystal window.
The battle in the arena had already begun, with one side consisting of a five-member team against six goblins. Obviously, those goblins were just the sacrificial offerings used for the opening ceremony of the arena; they had no combat experience. As soon as the fight started, the opponent’s warrior charged into their formation. The other four members of the five-member team didn’t move at all, merely watching as the warrior spun around with his long knife, slashing through the throats of each goblin, ending the battle. The six goblins fell around the warrior in a perfect ring—feet inward, necks outward, with their heads detached, rolling to the side.
Most of the spectators in the audience were clearly used to this scenario; every time the arena began, they saw this kind of goblin slaughter. They were long tired of it. However, a few spectators still cheered, clapped, and jumped excitedly, shouting for the next match to begin quickly.
Lynch didn’t understand why the old Mage wanted him to watch this kind of combat continuously. To him, it was just a meaningless mutual slaughter. But the sad reality was, it could bring enjoyment to many races—it was just a bunch of goblins who appeared out of nowhere, watching the bodies of their fallen kin, yet still cheering so excitedly.
"Those cheering goblins are actually slaves of the arena, and they are no different from the goblins used as sacrificial offerings below. The difference is, some will die, while others will clap and cheer for the deceased, hoping they won’t be chosen to step into the same role of the mocked decease next time."
"The goblins’ minds don’t think that far ahead. To them, surviving today and tomorrow is more than enough. As for the day after tomorrow, they won’t think about it; they don’t have the capability to think that far."
"Yes, I see it the same way. But let’s continue watching."
Time ticked by, and the matches in the arena approached a fever pitch. The five-member team lost to someone skilled in using sandstorms, then that person lost to someone else. Each scene was more bloody than the last, and the audience grew more excited by each match. Even Deluo, sitting in the room, long forgot there was a mysterious Dark Elf Mage beside him, fully absorbed in the thrill brought by the duels.
Nimo wasn’t interested in such fights at all, but he couldn’t just leave alone, so he lay on the soft cushion to rest. Soon, he truly fell asleep, softly snoring.
Lynch kept watching Vizren, using his Eye of Insight on the Mage while physically maintaining the appearance of watching the arena. All this while, Vizren hadn’t moved a bit; he just sat there quietly in the shadows. Lynch was increasingly unable to comprehend the meaning behind the Dark Elf’s actions.
Two robust Gladiators had struggled to bring down their opponents—another two Tauren Berserkers. Their bodies were covered in blood, both the enemy’s and their own. The two supported each other, waiting for the audience to decide their final fate—death or survival.
"Ah, the real show is about to start..." After a long wait of boredom, the old Mage finally spoke.
