Chapter 539: Chapter 224: I’m Sorry, Mo Yunchen_5
Mo Yunchen clasped Qin Qin’s hand that was reaching down to pick up her dropped items, squatting low with his long fingers picking up each piece of wild vegetables and wild boar meat and placing them into the basket.
Qin Qin’s gaze never left the back of his head. As she watched the side of his face that was bowed, her eyes reddened slightly. She desperately told herself to restrain her feelings, to not let him detect any flaws. Perhaps he was merely suspicious. Who could recognize her looking like this now? She absolutely couldn’t let him recognize her, because she didn’t dare, didn’t dare to face him looking this way.
Mo Yunchen stood up, his tall frame exuding a familiar and crisp scent. His gaze was locked onto her the entire time, watching as she kept her head lowered from the start. He couldn’t see her face, but the wrist that was exposed he saw clearly, covered with wrinkles. The backs of her hands, once fair and flawless, were now full of wrinkles, tightening his heart with distress.
He stood at her doorstep for a long time, until the sound of her footsteps behind him stirred excitement within him. He thought she would come forward to embrace him, but to his surprise, when she saw him, she turned and left.
Without a second thought, he chased after her, looking at her as she walked ahead with a staggeringly large belly, seemingly afraid to see him.
Even without seeing her face, he recognized her silhouette. It was her, the one who had heartlessly left five months ago. This time, he absolutely wouldn’t let her go.
"Thank you," Qin Qin said with a hoarse voice, trying to reach out and take the basket from Mo Yunchen’s hand.
Hearing her voice, pain and discomfort flickered in his phoenix eyes.
Mo Yunchen could no longer suppress his emotions. Casting aside the basket, he grabbed Qin Qin’s reaching hand and pulled her tightly into his embrace.
His eyes, deep and dark like ink, stared intensely at the horrified Qin Qin. Looking beyond her veil at the scars fiery as burns, he, who had steeled himself, couldn’t help being shocked by these marks. But it wasn’t fear, disgust, or horror that he felt, rather, it was a heart-wrenching pain. He realized she had also been enduring such immense pain during this time, no less than his own.
His Qinqin, the one he cherished in the palm of his hand, had actually been bearing such pain alone?!
"Qinqin... my Qinqin."
Hearing him call her name so affectionately, Qin Qin’s heart ached, her nose tingling with emotion.
Mo Yunchen, Mo Yunchen, how she longed to call out his name.
"You’ve mistaken me for someone else," Qin Qin pushed Mo Yunchen away, taking a step back and disregarding the basket on the ground, clutching her stomach as she walked towards the house.
Maybe it was because she was nervous, but the gate that usually opened with ease took her quite a while, and it seemed stuck. A large hand from behind reached out and opened the gate for her.
Qin Qin didn’t say thank you but walked into the house, opening the door and entering, about to close it when Mo Yunchen squeezed in.
"What are you doing? I’ve already told you, you’ve got the wrong person. If you don’t leave now, my husband will be back soon, and he won’t let you off," she said, hastily manufacturing an excuse, hoping he would leave, to treat it as a case of mistaken identity.
"Husband?! I’d like to see who your husband really is," Mo Yunchen said in a low voice tinged with coldness as he advanced toward her. Qin Qin steps backward in fear. She knew he was angry.
"Just because you’ve become like this, you cruelly hid from me for five months. Qinqin, do you have any idea how I’ve made it through these five months without you?" he closed in step by step as she retreated.
"You’ve mistaken me for someone else. You really have mistaken me for someone else. I’m not called Qinqin," she said, refusing to acknowledge her identity. How could she let him love someone so hideous?
"You’ve got the wrong person. I don’t know any Qinqin. If there’s nothing else, please leave," Qin Qin turned to walk towards the room, but Mo Yunchen’s long stride cut off her path.
Qin Qin turned her head away, unwilling to meet his gaze. He reached out to pull off her veil, but she stopped him with her aged voice.
"Don’t! You’ve really got the wrong person. Just go, leave this place," her voice carried a plea. Mo Yunchen withdrew his hand, pain flickering in his phoenix eyes.
The sounds of departure came from behind her. Qin Qin’s suppressed tears streamed down her cheeks as she tremulously touched them, not knowing how to face him with such hideous wounds.
Suddenly, a broad chest was behind her, and a pair of arms embraced her from the back, "Don’t cry, Qinqin, don’t cry."
He turned her face toward him and tore off her veil, bending down. She struggled to avoid him, but he held her firmly and kissed her scarred cheek, his kisses cleaning away her tears.
