Madam, Please Behave
Chapter 365: A Desperate Dream (1)

Li Chongming was in a narrow, pitch-black room.

Not a single glimmer of light shone into the dim space. The room had no exit—only a single locked door.

He was trapped here.

From the moment he regained consciousness, he had already found himself inside.

Li Chongming couldn’t quite remember what had happened.

His memories were scattered, fragmented—he had a strong feeling that something major had occurred, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t recall what it was.

Standing at the center of the room, he pondered for a long while before finally rising to his feet.

He had to find a way out of here.

Feeling his way through the darkness…

His hand reached a wall, but strangely, he couldn’t feel anything solid—almost like…

Before he could think further, a sudden burst of light filled the room.

What started as a faint glow quickly intensified, growing so blinding that Li Chongming had to shut his eyes to shield himself from the harsh brightness.

After a while—

A clamor reached his ears.

He lowered the hands shielding his eyes and slowly opened them.

The next second, he froze.

He stood stunned, as if staring at a sight he couldn’t quite believe.

Sitting in a hospital chair, Li Chongming looked blankly at the doctor who had just appeared before him.

The doctor, wrapped tightly in medical gear, suddenly pulled off his face mask and stared at him with a stern expression.

"The mother is suffering from massive bleeding. Her life is at risk. Please prepare yourself."

“……”

Mother?

Who’s that?

Where… am I?

Questions swirled in his head. Li Chongming still couldn’t make sense of what was happening.

Then—another flash of light. Instinctively, he raised his hand again to block it.

When the light faded, he opened his eyes once more.

Now, he heard the sound of sobbing...

Turning his head, he saw three figures standing in front of an operating room.

A married couple—and a young girl.

He stood nearby, staring blankly at them.

Somehow, they looked oddly familiar… but no matter how hard he tried, his mind was empty. He couldn’t recall who they were or why they felt familiar.

The three were clearly grieving. The sobbing had come from the adult woman in particular…

After a moment’s hesitation, Li Chongming began walking toward them. He didn’t know why—but his feet started moving on their own, step by step.

It was only a short distance, yet it felt like it took him forever to reach them.

Finally, he stood behind them. Just as he opened his mouth to ask what had happened—

As if sensing his presence, the three who had been facing away from him suddenly spun around.

"AAAHHHHH!!"

A terrified scream burst from Li Chongming’s mouth.

The instant he saw their faces, a wave of horror rushed over him.

Their faces were drenched in blood…

So familiar—he had definitely seen them before.

Before he could figure it out, the man—silent until now—suddenly lunged forward and grabbed Li Chongming by the throat.

He couldn't breathe.

Li Chongming struggled desperately, flailing his arms in resistance.

But it was useless.

No matter how hard he fought, the grip on his neck didn’t loosen even a bit. Left with no other choice, he stared directly into the bloodied face of the man strangling him.

Twisted and mangled, the man’s already horrific face looked even more terrifying from this close.

His breathing grew weaker.

Then, the man finally spoke—his voice filled with hatred.

"Why… why did you run that night?"

"I…"

Mouth agape, Li Chongming managed to utter just one word.

And in the next second—everything came rushing back.

The memory he had struggled to recall earlier suddenly surged into his mind.

He remembered why those three people felt so familiar—

It was that night… the family involved in the car accident.

He remembered clearly. After the crash, he had stumbled out of his car, still drunk. He had staggered toward the overturned vehicle…

And when he got close, he’d seen, through the shattered window, the man in the driver’s seat…

His face was covered in blood, on the brink of death.

And then—he remembered the man’s words.

“Help… help us…”

The man had probably said more, but under the influence of alcohol, and shaken by the gruesome scene, Li Chongming hadn’t hesitated.

He ran.

He fled the scene.

“No… it wasn’t me, I didn’t hit you!”

He shouted desperately.

Swinging his fists, he punched at the man choking him while still trying to defend himself.

“I didn’t do it… it wasn’t me…”

He kept repeating the same words.

Then, the woman and little girl—also covered in blood—joined in.

Each grabbed one of his arms, holding him down so he couldn’t move.

His head shook frantically.

Still, he repeated over and over: "It wasn’t me."

Suddenly, the bloodied family disappeared.

From struggling so hard, he lost balance and fell to the ground.

And then—the scene shifted again.

Li Chongming gasped for breath, panting heavily before finally lifting his head.

His eyes were full of confusion as he looked around.

A strange room.

It was bright. Brand-new furniture. By the window, not far away, stood a baby crib.

He stared at everything around him, unable to make sense of it, and slowly pushed himself off the floor.

His eyes locked onto the crib.

He walked over.

Peering inside—

He saw a baby sleeping peacefully.

Its chubby face…

The features looked just like him when he was a child.

A thought entered his mind.

His hand gripped the edge of the crib as he slowly raised it, hesitantly reaching toward the baby’s face.

“Get away!”

Before he could touch the baby, a furious scream rang out from behind him.

Startled, Li Chongming turned around—and saw Chu Fang’s face.

She had rushed in from the doorway, dashed to the crib, and shoved him hard with both hands.

Caught off guard, he was thrown to the floor.

He could only watch helplessly as Chu Fang scooped the now-awake, crying baby into her arms.

She patted the baby’s back over and over, looking down at him coldly.

Disgust was written all over her face.

She didn’t care.

Li Chongming looked at the baby in her arms. His body started trembling slightly.

A flicker of hope appeared in his eyes. He looked up at Chu Fang… then at the baby, who was slowly calming down in her arms.

Summoning all his strength, he asked—

“Is… is that my child?”
