"I might even reach the top rank" Ethan muttered as Hannah opened the door and they walked outside with Isabella behind them.

"Let’s duel then, you against me" Isabella spoke.

"Not if we talk to the instructor and both of us agree, and we’ll place a bet on the match," Isabella said.

"Isabella here is trying to challenge you to a duel, she’s ranked at 5 and you’re ranked at 80, so you can refuse the challenge, but if you win then you’ll switch ranks, you’ll be at 5 and she’s be at rank 80" Laura spoke.

"Why would you challenge someone at rank 80 unless you are sure you can win, so there’ll be a penalty for losing" Laura spoke.

"Yes of course, why would a mage use a weapon if it isn’t crafted from magic, this is the magic academy, not a weapon school" Laura spoke as she stood up and Isabella turned towards Ethan with a smile on her face.

"Before we start, Isabella who is the current rank five challenged Ethan to a duel, if Ethan wins he would be the new rank 5, and Isabella would be ranked last, both of you step forward" Laura spoke.

Even she knew Ethan stood no chance against Isabella but since he accepted the challenge, she couldn’t wait to see what spells Ethan had.

All the students were now mumbling amongst themselves as they stood there watching as both of them entered the arena and the barrier went up.

"Now let’s place the bets," Isabella said.

"Okay, what do you want?" Ethan asked.

"The winner would ask anything from the loser, anything at all, you can ask for my title if you want, anything, apart from my life" Isabella muttered.

"Okay then," Ethan said as he moved backward.

Both of them moved away from themselves and Laura spoke, "Start"

Immediately Isabella created water out of thin air with her Mana and quickly changed it into ice spikes but Ethan already created an advanced barrier in front of himself.

The ice spikes created more spikes and all of them shot towards Ethan at an amazing speed.

Ethan’s body exploded and was covered in flame immediately, Isabella’s ice spikes broke through his barrier and two of the spikes shot towards Ethan but the sharp tip of the ice melted and the rest of the ice touched Ethan’s body, fell to the ground, and also melted.

Ethan quickly removed his flame cloak as it consumed too much Mana, since he was unable to use his sword he would have to manage the Mana he had.

(Just so you know, lightning consumes more Mana than normal, so use it as a trump card to win, or you’ll tire yourself out)

’I can still recover my mana, I’ll just need to hold the sword, I won’t use it’

All the students were watching intensely as Isabella calculated her next move, Ethan wasn’t thinking of attacking or closing the distance between them since he couldn’t use his sword, so she had time on her side.

Isabella was of royal blood so the amount of Mana she had was a lot more than Ethan’s, if this was to turn into an endurance battle then she was going to win.

Ethan stretched both of his hands and shot five fireballs which Isabella dodged with ease by creating ice underneath her feet.

’Charging towards her is just going to get me beaten since she’s good at using swords, so I’ll have to finish her without getting...shit’ Ethan mouthed as Isabella charged towards him with two ice swords in her hand.
