Chapter 212 The Maid
Chapter 212: Chapter 212 The Maid
The roads were mostly deserted at this hour.
Liam drove through the dimly lit streets, one hand on the wheel, the other resting near the window as the tires hummed over the asphalt. The dashboard clock read 1:04 AM. The night had dragged long, and the air outside had grown colder. City lights flickered in the rearview mirror like dying stars, and even the neon signs had begun to dim.
Lana sat beside him, her head tilted against the window, eyes closed, breathing slow and deep.
She had started dozing off ten minutes ago, and now she was practically asleep, lost in a calm he hadn’t seen in her all night. Her lips were slightly parted, and a few strands of her dark brown hair had fallen over her cheek.
Liam glanced at her from time to time.
She looked peaceful when she was like this. Vulnerable, even.
It had only been a few nights staying together in the same hotel room, but in that time, he’d learned three things about Lana.
First—when she slept, she slept. Nothing woke her up. Not the sound of passing cars, not phone notifications, not even thunder.
Second—she had no sense of order when it came to her clothes. Her jacket was always thrown somewhere random. Once it ended up on the lamp. Once on the mini fridge. Once on his face.
And third—she ate like a soldier on leave. Big meals. Fast. Almost like food was a reward she refused to deny herself. Yet somehow her body stayed unreal. Hourglass figure, flawless skin, not even a hint of bloating or fatigue after a heavy meal. It made no sense.
Liam sighed as he pulled into the hotel parking lot, the engine slowing to a soft idle.
He parked near the entrance, stepped out of the car, and stretched a little. The air was crisp. Cold enough to make him see his breath. He walked around and opened the passenger door.
Lana didn’t stir.
He reached out, tapping her shoulder gently. "Lana."
She mumbled something and shifted, her brow furrowing.
"Lana. We’re here."
This time she blinked her eyes open slowly, her lashes fluttering. She looked around in a daze, then yawned and rubbed her face.
"that was fast..." she muttered, stepping out of the car groggily. Her body leaned into his instinctively, using him for support as she blinked off the sleep.
Liam didn’t mind.
They started walking toward the hotel entrance, moving slowly, Lana dragging her feet like a zombie.
But then they stopped.
Someone was standing in their way.
A woman.
Middle-aged. Maybe late forties. Her posture was slouched, her hair messy like she hadn’t brushed it in days. She wore a long brown coat that looked soaked at the bottom, and she stood in the middle of the path, unmoving.
Lana yawned, not even looking properly. "What’s she doing just standing there?"
She leaned harder against Liam, eyes barely open.
But the woman wasn’t moving.
Liam narrowed his eyes. Something felt off.
The woman’s gaze slowly lifted and locked onto him. Her eyes were red-rimmed, sunken, as if she hadn’t slept in days. There were dark circles under them, and her skin looked pale, like she hadn’t eaten in even longer.
"Are you... Liam?" she asked softly.
Her voice was strained, weak, like someone who hadn’t spoken in hours and was running out of energy.
Liam stopped in his tracks.
"Yes," he said cautiously.
The woman’s face twitched—somewhere between relief and collapse.
She exhaled a breath she’d clearly been holding, her lips trembled, and then—
She collapsed.
Like a puppet with its strings cut.
Lana snapped awake instantly. "What the hell—?!"
The woman hit the concrete hard.
Liam rushed forward, dropping to his knees beside her.
"Hey!" he said sharply. "Hey, are you okay?!"
He checked her pulse. It was faint, but steady.
Still breathing.
Just unconscious.
Lana stood back, trying to shake the grogginess from her body. "Is she... dead?"
"No," Liam muttered. "Just out cold."
"What the hell is going on?"
He didn’t answer. He was already lifting the woman in his arms.
---
They managed to get her inside without drawing too much attention. The staff was used to Liam coming and going at odd hours, and with Lana trailing beside him, the whole scene just looked like a drunk relative being carried in after a long night.
Back in their room, Liam laid the woman on the bed and sat down in the chair near the corner, watching her.
Lana curled up on the large couch, a blanket over her legs, her hair now tied in a messy bun. The couch was technically too small for her height, but she didn’t care. She was out cold in minutes.
Liam didn’t sleep.
He kept his eyes on the woman.
She had mumbled something before she passed out. Right before she hit the ground.
His name.
That was the only reason he brought her up here instead of calling security.
Liam had been sitting in the same position for hours.
He didn’t sleep.
Didn’t blink much either.
His elbows were resting on his knees, his hands loosely clasped together, and his bloodshot eyes were locked on the bed and the couch—watching both Lana and the woman named Yvette.
He hadn’t moved since sometime around 2 AM.
Now, the clock on the wall read 9:22 AM.
Lana stirred first.
She sat up slowly, her hair messy, eyes half-lidded from sleep. Her body felt sore from the couch, and her arms reached high above her head as she stretched. Her shirt lifted slightly as she arched, revealing a soft flash of her waist and hips.
Liam’s tired gaze didn’t miss it.
His red-rimmed eyes followed every slow movement of hers as she stretched, yawned, and finally stood up. Her body moved with sleepy grace, natural and unfiltered. She noticed him watching her but didn’t say anything.
She walked over to him, barefoot, quiet.
He looked like a statue, unmoving, distant—but present.
She didn’t say anything.
She just sat down on his lap.
Her weight settled onto him gently, naturally. Her arms slid around his neck, and she pulled his hand across her waist as she rested her head on his chest.
Liam blinked.
The smell of her hair hit him almost instantly—warm, clean, slightly sweet, like jasmine and soft vanilla. The scent drifted into his nose and made his whole body loosen.
It was so comfortable.
For the first time in hours... he wanted to sleep.
