Chapter 228: Chapter 228: I am Xiao Chen

Lin Xiang saw Yun Yue nonchalantly telling her that she was okay, feeling both relieved and heartbroken.

She was unreasonably sensible, or perhaps she didn’t want to worry too many people because of her own issues, but she was still just a child!

"You should eat something first, this is the soup your grandmother stewed for you," Lin Xiang said as she took out the prepared meals from the thermal lunch box, and the rich aroma instantly tantalized her taste buds.

Back then, phone calls had frustrated her, but now she had calmed down and was actually hungry.

It was her favorite sweet and sour spareribs and chicken soup.

By the time she finished eating, it was already nine in the evening. Lin Xiang had an important meeting tomorrow, so she left first. Lin Xuanze had class tomorrow as well and said he would come to accompany her after class, leaving Liu Lanfang to stay with her.

Liu Lanfang brought all the necessary clothes for changing. She took out folded clothes and a towel and suddenly glanced at her, "Who did you offend this time?"

"Tsck." Yun Yue leaned against the pillow, her slender fingers tapping on her phone, casually saying, "I don’t know."

She really didn’t know.

"Take a shower," Liu Lanfang said, tossing the towel onto her, which would have made anyone else angry, but she just smiled back.

"I’ll go in a bit." Yun Yue removed the towel that was covering her phone screen and continued to focus on her phone.

Liu Lanfang stayed silent, just frowning and staring at her.

Yun Yue: "..."

"Alright, alright, I’m going," she said helplessly as she put down her phone, grabbing the towel and hospital clothes to head into the bathroom.

Liu Lanfang was tidying up the bed when she found a "toy gun" under the pillow. She put the pillow back emotionlessly as if she hadn’t seen it, hiding it.

"Boss, you..."

Mo Fan, Xiao Bai, and Cang Leng walked in and saw Liu Lanfang. They started to chuckle awkwardly, "We’ve entered the wrong room, sorry."

The three of them said this and were about to turn around and leave.

Liu Lanfang, with her sharp eyes, squinted and said, "You didn’t enter the wrong room; this is the one."

Her memory was good, and she wasn’t blind yet. These two must be her granddaughter’s "parents."

Mo Fan and Xiao Bai stiffened as Cang Leng, unaware, glanced at the room number and confidently walked in, "This is the correct room, no mistake."

"..."

A hint of embarrassment surfaced on their faces, and Mo Fan coughed twice, "Grandma, hello, I’m Mo Fan."

"I’m Xiao Bai."

Cang Leng, not recognizing Liu Lanfang but guessing her identity, introduced himself respectfully, "I am Cang Leng."

"Sit," Liu Lanfang said, gesturing to the sofa nearby. In front of her penetrating gaze, the three of them felt extremely nervous.

Who could tell them why the old lady had such an overwhelming presence?

Her eyes, seasoned by the vicissitudes of time, seemed to see through everything.

Her voice was slightly hoarse as she spoke, "I recognize the two of you, Yun Yue’s ’parents’ from her tales, right?"

Mo Fan and Xiao Bai pressed their lips together in an awkward smile.

Only they knew how awkward it felt for the fake parents to meet the real grandmother.

It seemed Granny wasn’t easy to fool, after all!

Liu Lanfang said expressionlessly, "Don’t be nervous, I won’t eat you."

"We’re not nervous, what do we have to be nervous about?" Xiao Bai fiddled with his fingers.

Cang Leng shot him a glance. He always played with his fingers when nervous, as if Cang Leng wouldn’t know?

"Thank you for taking care of Yun Yue all these years."

"We don’t deserve your thanks, we haven’t taken care of her, it’s she who has been taking care of us."

The three of them shook their heads, looking as if they couldn’t believe their good fortune—they couldn’t even afford meals before, but it was the boss who had recruited them into the Golden Net, enabling them to have the life they lead now. If anyone should be grateful, it was they who should be thanking her, for having cultivated such an outstanding boss.

"Click."

The door to the restroom opened, and Yun Yue casually flung her wet hair around, splashing their faces.

"..."

Her movement stiffened, and with an expressionless face, she said, "Sorry about that, I didn’t see you there."

"It’s fine," the three men said in unison.

Even if she were to fling knives at them, they wouldn’t so much as blink an eye because she was their boss, and they trusted her implicitly.

Liu Lanfang’s gaze darkened as it fell upon her. She paused, then lowered her lashes in an all-too-natural motion, wiping her hair with the towel as if it were the most normal thing in the world.

The boss was afraid of her grandma, or to put it more precisely, she only listened to her grandma. They had never seen this before but now, having witnessed it, they believed it.

They had never seen a boss like her.

Wet hair clung closely to her fair and delicate skin.

Like a lotus emerging from water, alluring and softly radiant.

From this angle, her profile appeared even sharper against her naturally beautiful features, which were exceptionally exquisite.

She was dressed in hospital clothes, with two buttons undone at the neckline, revealing her fair and slender neck.

It made them drool with desire—was the boss always this enticing?

Did she even realize she was a girl?

Suddenly, a tall figure stepped in front of them, his presence emanating a cold sternness, his jawline tense, as if wrapped in frost.

He slipped his jacket over Yun Yue, covering her exposed fair and tender skin.

Feeling his icy gaze, they quickly averted their eyes toward the window, even Mo Fan couldn’t withstand his stare.

Liu Lanfang cast a discreet glance at Xiao Chen, remaining silent.

His distinct knuckles moved as he methodically fastened the buttons at her neckline.

His fingertips brushed her soft skin, pausing slightly, as his intense gaze fell upon her skin.

He lifted his hand, gently wiping away the droplets of water on her face.

Yun Yue lowered her eyelids, her back stiffening for a moment, but she kept her face cocky, showing no sign of discomfort.

The towel in her hand was taken away, and a large hand wrapped in a towel landed gently on top of her head.

"Your hair will get cold if you don’t dry it," Xiao Chen said as he dabbed gently at her hair with the towel, noticing the slight tremble of her weary eyelashes.

Feng Ye tactfully handed over a hairdryer from the side, "Master Chen, the hairdryer."

Everyone in the ward suddenly found themselves partaking in an unsolicited display of affection.

The "whirring" sound echoed in everyone’s ears, breaking the strange, ambiguously charged atmosphere.

These two really had no regard for the people around them!

Even if they were oblivious to them, there was still an elder present! Couldn’t they see she was gaping in astonishment?

It had to be said, Xiao Chen was indeed Xiao Chen; even in the face of Liu Lanfang, his presence remained as imposing as ever, though now there was a touch more respect for an elder on his face.

After drying her hair, he checked her wounds once more to ensure she hadn’t gotten them wet, before letting her get into bed.

"Grandma, I’m Xiao Chen, Yun Yue’s boyfriend," he said, solemnly introducing himself, his jaw line tense, his hands clenched tightly in his pockets.

He had only seen Liu Lanfang once last year during the New Year and back then, he had just considered her a child, paying her little attention. He had been so abrupt during his visit to the Lin Family—surely she would hold that against him?

Nobody could have imagined that in less than half a year, he would be humbly introducing himself, and what’s more, he was particularly concerned about her opinion and attitude toward him, a type of nervousness he had never felt before.

Thinking about it, he found it amusing—never had he imagined that he too would experience such a day.
