Chapter 48: The Angered Theodore And A Missing Red.

Last Night.

Critic Arley, Critic-Ishire.

Conan, felt horrible, he was a knight and had gone to wars with the lord but he was not heartless to innocent people, or women and Helena was both, he trudged ahead on his but his conscience wouldn’t quit nagging, he had left her behind so abruptly and alone, she is a stranger in Critic Arley, it is night and she helped him when he needed it most, when he had thought he would die without knowing why or how. He veered around on the horse and soon he met her, in her red cloak with tangled black locks that stunk like fruits and vegetables, her droopy angry ocean blue eyes on her cold booted feet that hadn’t moved an inch from where he had dropped her earlier, she met his gaze and he swears out loud.

His heart shifted.

"Come here" he growled and in one powerful swoop he had her in front of him on the steed straddling her, and unnecessarily missing this particular presence.

She snuggled, sitting comfortably as an involuntary smile bloomed on her soft features "Where are you taking me?" she asked, shifting to meet his eyes.

"I would appreciate it if you stop moving or talking" he snarled, his eyes ahead.

"Do you-" she trailed off her sentence when she figured why he must have asked her to shut up, her breath must stink, and her hair and, dear lord. She sat still and quiet throughout the ride to Conan’s place.

She has been feeling extremely weak and vulnerable since she used all her energy to bring back Conan from the weakening curse of the cursed land. He had been so far into the enchantment had she not gotten him out and saved him in time, he would be dead now, but that doesn’t mean she felt great in her body since then, prompting her to feel faint and dizzy, which is she has continuously remained thirsty and sleepy, he head falls in his broad warm shoulders again and she couldn’t raise it back up, no elegance instructor could help her at that moment.

He shrugged her off his body, jumped down the steed before helping her down and pointing at his bungalow "We’re here, this is my house" he told her.

She nodded "Take me to the water room" her direct request.

"It’s called bathroom in Critic Arley" he advised, she managed an eye roll.

"Take me there" she mumbled, her eyes droopy, she kept falling weak, the ride making her thighs sore and achy as she took each step after him.

"Why is your home so dark?" she griped when they entered the house and she could barely make out her hands.

"Because I was absent, are you scared of the dark?" he glanced behind at her, she shrugged before he found the lanterns and turned them on, one by one.

"What about the maids?" Helena asked quietly

"I don’t have any" he admitted

"But you’re a knight!" she grumbled "You’re barely home, and you work for Lord of Critic Arley, you should have a maid" she said into the barely lit darkness.

"Well, you’re here now what more would I need" he snapped making her frown as she followed him to her new room diligently.

He is not intending to turn her his maid now, is he?

Night

Dark space, Theodore Mansion.

Critic Arley, Critic-Ishire.

Theodore had felt life seeping out of his body as he held his wife’s lifeless body trying to put life back in but being unable to, at that moment he had hoped just once a mightier power would descend to help him save her, at that few minutes he had wished he was a witch so he could save his wife. He had felt his heart being squeezed and slowly the heart couldn’t beat anymore, all he heard was Lydia’s silence and her unmoving body he felt against him. His limbs had moved on their own accord trying to get back his wife so he could hold her warm and smiling, he hated how he had been able to move while she lay fighting for air into her lungs, that can never happen again. Ever.

"Tell me why I should cease from swiping your head off right this instant?" Theodore gave Hound a question, but Hound remained silent, his eyes on Theodore’s shoulder, he felt extremely ashamed and disappointed in himself, if Theodore had been a minute late, the last would be dead now and living would’ve been his only remaining sin, he clenched his teeth, looking further down.

A figure stepped inside but Theodore was too enraged to give a care "I go out for a few days and this is what I come back to?" Conan’s playful voice greets them, Hound remains unmoved while Theodore scowles.

"What are you doing back in Critic Arley?" he grunted his question.

"What is happening?" his right-hand man and knight had other questions, he was welcomed with a shivering make and a fidgeting Blanc the moment he stepped foot in the mansion, they had told him what happened right before he sprinted for this place.

"His demise is about to occur" Theodore snarled emotionlessly. Conan’s tired face bunched.

"Theodore you can’t kill him" he tipped his blade closer to Hound’s throat, drawing blood at Conan’s retort

Conan gulped before he continued "He is a trusted figure-" Theodore cut him off, Hound remained silent.

He growled "I’m not so sure about that anymore"

Conan shook his head, surprised Theodore waited this long if he actually believed that "He was merely trying to give the Lady space" Conan added on Hound’s behalf.

"At the risk of her life!" the lord barked

Conan nodded not once exchanging glances with Hound "Theodore it was a home accident, most of them are inevitable and shouldn’t you be by her side now?" he reminded, his brows high.

Theodore sighed "She is unmoving and the physician asked me to leave" he had been grumbling so much that the physician advised him to leave.

"She needs you still, you shouldn’t end Hound my Lord, I beg you" Conan succumbed to begging because Theodore seemed intent on keeping his hand up. "We are in peril from all sides so we need to be strong and you need all the loyal forces you can gather, also killing Hound wouldn’t make you feel better, look at him" Conan ended his speech before taking his seat, he barely had a good night rest because a certain lady was lying on his bed.

Theodore lowered his arm, and moved for his seat before barking "And where in hell is Red?"

Hound finally spoke, his voice as calm as the still waters, his eyes cold and dark "Lord Theodore, Red has been missing for a few days now" he confessed

"What?" the lord was baffled, Red is a mystical beast with knowledge more than most humans, missing is not something that should happen to him. "I gave it to Lydia as a kitten, it can’t go missing"

"It did go missing Lord Theodore, because she has been giving me orders to find it for her, for she does not wish for you to know of its absence" Hound added.

"So you were discreet, behind my back, leaving my wife unprotected and then keeping a secret with her!" he snarled, his tone falling as the sentence went on.

"Find the damn beast and this time you better find it because, without it, you’re becoming the coachman and Blanc the butler" he promised his voice full of venom.

"Lord Theodore I-"

"What are you doing here, Conan" Theodore cut Hound’s next words with his question to the right-hand man that is supposed to be in Critic Ishelm looking for a certain muckraker. What happened to him?

"You’re right Lord Theodore, magic permits this empire".

Morning.

Citadel, Emperor’s Chamber.

Critic Citadel, Critic-Ishire.

"Go. Get. Her!" the emperor, Salvatore ordered, pronouncing each word with more potency than the last, his eyes were trained on the royal advisor, Lord Rior Jones who was calm yet insisted on the emperor thinking his decision of going to pluck a lady out of her home just because he has the power, also there exists a propriety that should be obstructing him.

"Your Majesty, as your advisor I tell you this is not a good idea" Lord Rior stated

"I appointed you my advisor, No?" Salvatore questioned

"Yes, you and the... yes you did" he corrected his sentence in the middle and the emperor feigned ignorance to it, lest for his darkened eyes nothing gave his anger away.

"Good, how come I have to be the one advising you instead?" he asked coldly.

"Your majesty-" the emperor cut him off

"Leave my presence and without her do not come back" he ordered his eyes narrowed.

He had been feeling an unexplainable urge to be near a certain lady, for more than a day now and if he didn’t

"Wait, I’m going to get her, myself" he declared, strutting past the confused royal advisor, Rior.

"Tell the maids to make room for her in my closet for appropriateness" he informed the royal advisor who was following right behind him, before he whispered to himself "Not that she would be needing them," he smirked.
