Chapter 35: Lady Theodore’s first invitation

Theodore woke up to a comfortable warmth in his arms, his wife, Lydia was sleeping peacefully in his embrace so he opted to watch her instead of getting up, her face was serene and soft, she managed to be so close in his arms yet far enough that could watch her whole face, the plush lip he hunger to press his lips against as it is, her lash falling beautifully on her now red cheeks she has them flush on his chest, the proximity must have caused it, her hair is a full mess, she has so much hair he wonders what her thoughts would be about trimming it, he could do it for her, he paused with a frown, he doesn’t want anything happening to her beauty and the hair is a massive part of it, her hair stays he concluded, he would help her comb it instead, her chest is meeting him in a rhythm he wishes to keep, peace and love?

An amount of time that Theodore would call sad passed and she shifted, her lashes fluttering, threatening to open for the new day, he wished he could kiss them back to sleep but that’d only wake her up faster, between a rock and a hard place he settled to continue watching her, his Gooseberry waking up in his arms.

Her eyes fluttered completely open, the room was considerably dark yet she blinked repeatedly before sighing, her nostrils were immediately filled with the scent of him, her husband, her forever, she smuggled closer but felt him press against her thighs, something hard and warm, a shaft, she thought press against her, making her freeze, this is supposed to have happened sooner but she couldn’t be any happier that he is giving her time to adjust and become comfortable with the deed. She shifted intending to leave the bed, the room had thick and dark curtains so light always found it tasking to penetrate but her body clock told her it was already morning and the day should start now, his arm was a strong barricade holding caged as she tried to move.

"Don’t leave yet" he purred pulling her into him when she tried to leave the bed.

She giggled "Theo, the maids" Her muffled voice came from his chest before she raised her head all scattered hair and smiled to gaze at him.

"They work for us" he pointed out gruffly

"That does not stand to shield our irresponsibility if we stay late"

"My responsibility right now is to you" he growled and just like that stealthily pounced on her, his right arm drawing her face in, he feasted on her lips, the kiss was hot and urgent, pulling the remnants of sleep Lydia had out of her, with regained energy she returned the fire in his kiss, their lips dancing in a rhythm only two angry humans can dance. This kiss is anything but gentle and as slow as the first, Theodore is devouring her lips with a passion only a starved man would portray on a portion of delicious food, his upper lip sank into her mouth while he drew her lower lip into his, all tongues and affection his hand move from her neck tracing a line with his index through her spine and when he got to her butt cheek he squeezed it and pulled her closer with it, she gave a sound that sounded like a sigh and a whimper consequently bringing him to the edge and sending him out of the frenzy with his eyes opening, he slowly plus back, dropping several small kisses on her lips and nose he snuggled her closer again with a growl.

Lydia woke up with a groan as she stretched her limbs like fragile happiness, she looked around the room and the knowledge of being alone did not set right in her mind, she had insisted they left the bed earlier but Theo refused and had stylishly lured her back to sleep and now he generated an audacity to leave her in bed alone while he goes out earlier, deep inside she could only blame her sleepy self, his arms were just so perfect.

She dragged out of bed and into a new day, her soft cold feet took her around the space as she got prepared for the day without the help of an employed, her hair didn’t look like it needed the solo work morning.

"Good morning Lady Theodore" Dorathy Lydia’s employed who is gradually getting closer to her as she is warmer to Lydia and isn’t as stupidly curious as Joyce nor as cold as Mira.

"Good morning Dorathy" Lydia mumbled absent-mindedly, her gaze searching.

"Yes my lady it is, the rest of your dresses are coming in today" she squealed appearing happier about their arrival than the owner of the dress was.

"But my lady your hair" Lydia resisted an eye roll, unladylike while Dorathy waited patiently.

"I have a headache, brushing it will worsen it" she lied easily. Her feminine cycle intrudes on all of her decisions.

"I see, we could get drugs an-" Dorathy started, she cut her off

"No, Where might Joyous be?" Her question is to not look like she is spacing out like she actually is.

"She left for the mansion’s lake" Dorothy’s reply

Her eyes widened "There is a lake?" Lydia asked

"Pardon, Milady?" her frown explained the need for a repeat of the question, the lady of the house does not know the mansion has its lake.

"You said the mansion’s lake, that means the mansion has a lake does it not?" Lydia repeated

"Yes it does, Lady Theodore you should know" Dorathy looks suspicious and baffled

"I’m clueless about it, Theodore didn’t properly tour me it seems" Lydia claimed moving for the couch.

"The lord toured you around the mansion himself?!" Dorathy screeched, eyes wide, mouth agape.

"Why, yes, he wanted to yet he still did a horrible job at it" she sassed as she was finally in the tea room.

"That is so sweet, if I may say, I didn’t expect Lord Theodore to be that attentive" Her comment made Lydia stare at her like she had grown a smaller head on her shoulder.

"Attentive? Theodore is more annoying and cold than attentive" she commented with a frown

"That is not true in my opinion" The maid’s head shook alongside her comment slipping out of her lips.

"Where is he?" She could finally ask

Dorothy shook her head "I am unaware of his location Lady Theodore"

She sighed and sat down to have coffee.

*****

Lydia is at the doorstep as she had been called out by Mira the slave to meet a messenger who had come to deliver a letter, she had hastily followed the maid downstairs. This is the first time a letter is directed to her.

"Who are you?" She questioned the overly tall man, his hair brown and too full, he looked as though it had only been a day since he was rescued from slavery but Lydia knew otherwise, he was in the messenger uniform, this must be how he looked.

"You have been invited to the tea party of the baroness of Critic -" his drawling voice is cut off

"Pass the invitation" Theodore’s voice passed above Lydia’s head to the man who still managed to be taller than the Lord too, the messenger looked shocked and stricken to be in the lord’s presence so he quickly stretched out the letter he had held in his sweaty palm like it was his possession all along to the Lord.

"Leave" Theodore snarled, his voice icy.

"Yes Lord Theodore" he bowed after his fearful words sputtered out of him, without waiting for what he assumed would be death he turned and scurried away, it was a ridiculous description for a tall man, but he did scurry.

Theodore swerved and they headed inside in silence before he looked over his shoulder to command "Ask away" he knew his wife would have something to say with the way her delicate face was frowning and her eyes turned in contemplation.

"Was that necessary? Asking him to leave like he’s a nuisance" she finally asked, relenting because he was right

Theodore shrugged "He did not want to be here" his reply came.

She blinked "You’re right, nobody ever wants to be here" she mumbled, her frown deepening

He stopped walking, turning to her he took her face in his palm while her eyes searched his that were busy roaming her face "Don’t sound or look so downcast, that’s a good thing, I respect the solitude, You shall too with time" he breathed on her lips before drawing back and taking her wrist in his large palm he resumed walking inside, the mansion is too large for its good.

"I shall never like a mundane life, the Statham estate was always noisy and almost full" she muttered, matching his steps

"It didn’t make you happy there" he rasped

She looked at the back of his head for a while before nodding in agreement, she hadn’t been happy when she was back home with her family, she is filled with responsibilities now but they’re responsibilities that she enjoys and intends to keep doing.

"Let’s see what the letter says" she suggested, pulling his arms.

"I need alcohol, it’s most definitely not pleasant news" he growled, tugging her palm and interlacing it together.

"It is absurdly early for that, but do we have rum?" She sounds sheepish making Theodore blink

"Now that’s a little suspicious but yes I don’t think we should have alcohol, come here" he commented, drawing her into the parlour.

"Where were you when I woke up?" She muttered a question

"I had some business to take care of, I didn’t think my sleepy bunny would wake up that early," he said with predatory intent

"After asking me to stay back in bed with you, now I’m the sleepy bunny head" she complained he merely chuckled drawing her into his arms as he took the couch, and then he started reading.

"The baroness of Critic Arley, Lady Vera Brighton is inviting Lady Lydia Theodore of Critic Arley to her seasonal tea party, She cannot come with whatever pet she may own" he finished reading and looked at his wife.

She nodded profusely "This is good" she said.

"Perhaps, until the sentence where it says you cannot come with whatever pet you may own" Theodore countered with a frown.

Lydia looked at him with a frown. "Why would I go to a tea party with a pet?"

"For protection" Theodore pointed out, seriously.

She raised a suspicious broe. "You think Red can insulate me?"

Her ocean blue eyes pop out "McDonald’s! Where is it?" she asked referring to the cat.

"Theodore!" she shrieked suddenly, correcting herself.

He cocks his head "Why are you yelling, Gooseberry?" he asked with a curious gaze.

"I’m using your name as an exclamation, honey" she countered her cheeks flaming, she had slowly stopped using the exclamation but it slipped today.

"Honey" he repeated, looking at a space with a sheepish grin.

"Let me look for the cat and also wait for the dressmaker, I ought to have a dress for the tea party" she informed as she turned around.

"She left me for Red!" he snarled, his eyes narrow.
