Chapter 127: Interrupted Breakfast & The Gift.
Morning.
Dining Hall, Theodore Mansion.
Critic Arley, Critic-Ishire.
******************
"Good morning lord Theodore"
One of the twins greeted him while the other did a deep bow after they reached the dining to meet their lord and lady dining.
Blanc hadn’t followed them inside, he had opted to wait outside.
Theodore started. "Who amongst you is the stablehand?"
"The stablehand?" one asked cluelessly.
"Yes" the lord retorted.
"None of us" he replied.
Theodore sighed. "Joyous?"
She appeared startled, why weren’t they saying it, she mused. "It was the nice one that is a stablehand lord Theodore" she commented.
Theodore nodded, he understood what she was saying but they weren’t saying anything right now, so how was he supposed to know?
He had always avoided identical people, it was a hassle which had made accepting Helena really tasking but now he and his wife had brought a more tasking set home.
What must have happened to their mood?
"Joyous you have to identify him please" he invited her with a tight lip.
Joyous paled. "I... he" she stuttered.
The lord smiled. "Do you not remember the name?" at least that would help, he thought.
"I... Gabriel? No, I..." she trailed off and with a determined stare she started.
"What are you doing?" Dorothy whispered in confusion as Joyous started to approach them.
Joyous stood in front of the skinny twin, his shoulders were as broad as the order but there was a certain appeal to his. She held his eyes, looked at him really well and when she could no longer breathe properly she blinked.
"This is Gabriel" she pointed out, her eyes still glued to his. His eyes visibly softened before she stretched her palm pointing at the thicker one she muttered. "That one would be Tom" she then added. "Tom is the stablehand" There was a smile in her voice.
Tom shrugged. "I am not a stablehand, I am merely good with horses" he replied almost cheekily.
"Why then did you not say that?" Theodore questioned with narrowed eyes.
Joyous broke their gaze and calmly turned around to stand on the side, next to Dorothy, who immediately began to whisper. What was that? No answer.
Tom answered cryptically. "Today’s not one of our mornings, why were we summoned?"
Theodore’s jaw ticked, could there be witches? He thought.
"A horse is down in the stable, I need you to check it, and if it has to be taken to a doctor you tell me" he ordered.
"Yes lord Theodore" They both bowed and Gabriel left the room first.
"Joyous, thank you" Theodore was saying.
Joyous smiled. "The pleasure is mine, Lord Theodore"
The room was just back to normal. As normal as an encounter with the twin could be when Blanc rushed in again.
Lydia sighed, suddenly realizing she was full. "What came up again?" she asked the already nervous Blanc.
He nodded before he started. "You see sir Conan is absent so I am forced to..."
"Go on" she urged, it was really nice messing with Blanc but he was also messing with her morning!
Blanc bobbed his head, and took a calming breath before moving towards Theodore he leaned in and whispered something to him, quickly, all the while Lydia sat watching them with narrowed eyes.
It turned into a chilling smile when Theodore finished hearing what the coachman had to say, dropped his fork and met her eyes.
Apologetically he started "Lydia I hate to tell you this but..." she interrupted him.
"I know. The city needs you, I shall wait for you, do well to come back early, I have a job too you see, but I am a punctual person" she said.
Theodore stared at her wondering what was the reason for what she’d just said.
"Blanc, wait for me outside" he said to the coachman instead.
Blanc bowed, quickly turned around and left the dining.
"Let us eat" Theodore invited Lydia tentatively but she wasn’t angry.
"I am done, we’ve been eating for more than an hour, let us begin the day," she said teasingly.
He smiled. "Okay, come"
They left the dining hall, hand in hand and as she escorted him outside, she unconsciously squeezed his palm, he paused, before he squeezed her back, lightly.
A footstep approached them and soon Dorothy’s voice.
"The coat, lady Theodore" she muttered unwilling to be loud.
"Thank you" Lydia expressed her gratitude as she took it from the maid.
Theodore stood majestically while Lydia helped him enter his light coat, left arm first, the right and then she smoothened the shoulders.
From over his shoulders, he whispered, you smell nice, my love. Caught off guard and blushing, Lydia coughed lightly.
She turned to him and patted his chest.
"Have a great day ahead" she wished, her eyes said she would go with him if she could.
"Thank you, have a splendid day but do miss me still" he pinned her chin between his fingers, drawing her nearer.
She licked her lips. "I shall miss you" she declared lovingly.
He drew her into his arms. "And I shall do nothing but reminisce the feel of you" he confessed, while her heart exercised her chest.
Slowly, he dropped a kiss on her lips before moving some errant strands of her locks away from her face. She gazed at him lovingly so he kissed her again before letting her out of his arms.
As Theodore marched away, his face slowly began to tighten, he stared ahead his pace fastening and soon he reached, Blanc.
Right before he would step inside the carriage, he paused turned to the coachman and asked. "You have a sword?"
Blanc nodded profusely. "Yes, Lord Theodore"
"Good, come on" he prompted.
Their carriage rode away into the streets while Lydia retreated into the mansion, she shall spend her day as well as she could and then wait for her husband.
That had been the longest breakfast they’ve ever had.

Noon.
Parlour, Theodore Mansion.
Critic Arley, Critic-Ishire.
***************
"Lady Theodore I bought glasses for you" Gabriel alerted Lydia, he was standing by her side and had been there for a moment now but she was so lost in the book she was reading that she couldn’t sense or see him.
With a deep intake of breath, Lydia placed her index on the page of the book she was reading to not miss it before she turned to him.
"Yes..., Cups?" she paused mid-sentence to remember what he had said.
Gabriel smiled politely. "No, Eyeglasses" he stretched his hand forward, revealing a small rectangular box.
Her brows rose as she regarded him. "Oh that’s sweet of you, why did you? She kept the book on the side table next to her coffee before she took the gift from him.
He shrugged. "It shall look good on you and it has a focus lens"
After he came back to the citadel with his brother he found out she was now a jeweller and he thought what best gift that was affordable could he get than something to protect her eyes while helping her focus better?
That way she could also see her enemies from a mile away, it had been crafted and he only was able to collect my last afternoon.
"Oh you are a sweet one, thank you" she said as she examined the glasses. "Which one are you?"
"Gabriel, Lord Theodore," he replied simultaneously glancing at the maid that stood next to the lady. She ignored him.
Certainly! Lydia loved it.
It was an exquisite eyeglass designed for a discerning lady jeweller. The eyeglasses embodied elegance and functionality with a touch of luxury.
The frame was crafted from polished rose gold, delicately adorned with intricate lattice patterns and encrusted with tiny gems along the temples, she thought of how she could change them to one of her gems, it added a dazzling sparkle with every movement.
She stood up and rushed to her office, she was excited, Gabriel was right behind her, and as she reached she picked a gem to see.
She used her hand fan to fan off invisible dust before putting on the glasses.
She smiled, the lenses, though unassuming in appearance, were where the true magic lay.
Implanted within the frame are precision-cut focus lenses, meticulously crafted to enhance clarity and magnification, which allowed Lydia to examine even the smallest details of her precious gemstones with unparalleled precision.
Each lens is seamlessly integrated into the frame, ensuring a comfortable fit and effortless usability.
How did he know? She glanced at him, gratitude filling her eyes, he had been different this morning. Look at him now.
The eyeglasses exuded sophistication and refinement. She thought he must have spent a lot of Crits on it, but she wouldn’t pay him for it because then it wouldn’t be a gift.
Whether she’s inspecting the facets of a flawless diamond or admiring the rich hues of a rare sapphire, these eyeglasses will be her indispensable tool, combining beauty and functionality in perfect harmony.
She turned to him with a smile. "Thank you, Gabriel"
And they left the office.
