Chapter 100: Lydia’s First Jewellery.

Dear Critic.

How much of your unfairness will a poor widow endure from all of you?

Ms. Janet has Lady Abigail as an apprentice, that should be enough to make you accept the poor struggling woman, I assure you her dresses make women like the green-lipped lady look better and more welcoming.

I see some women gathering to talk about how they can never call for her because she makes dresses for the new Lady of the city, mind you she makes gold Crits now. A lot of your husbands have worked for a few seasons without being privileged to receive gold Crits.

Ladies of Critic Arley, do you miss him?

Your husbands, brothers or neighbours.

I do mine.

Let us all pray they come back the soonest and then we can be whole again.

I also have some advice for everyone, seal your letters before sending them for the couriers are no longer to be trusted.

Yours disclosingly

Muckraker.

In the dimly lit chamber, Helena stepped inside and there sat Sarah, she was clothed in a simple brown gown, her stick resting by her side. Helena missed Conan and she has been eating badly, her hair tangled and she hungered to ride a horse.

"Helena, You came" Sarah’s soft voice met her making Helena nod despite the woman’s inability to see.

"I could not sleep" Helena confessed.

The night had been so long after she kept relieving some of her visions, she then stood up wrote some things and then delivered them early this morning before hiring a cart again for her small journey.

"You miss him" Sarah accused softly.

Helena reddened. "I... How are you feeling today?" she asked instead.

Sarah giggled and like an aristocrat, it was light and beautiful. Helena felt she would never be that.

"I am fine, and as blind as I can be" Sarah answered.

A silence settled before the elder lady cleared her throat. "You should have tea" The maid rushed off to get it.

"Thank you" Helena expressed her gratitude.

"But I would like to heal you first" Helena added.

Sarah was pleasantly pleased. "Why, by all means please"

"We shall need privacy," Helena said after a beat of silence.

Sarah glanced around, two maids were in the room so when she said. "Leave the room please" They all left quietly.

"I shall shut the doors" Helena announced before moving for it.

"Okay, I trust you," Sarah said assuredly.

Sarah was becoming optimistic the more Helena talked about treating her. She is starting to feel positive vibes and that scared her as much as it excited her.

"Move to the edge of your seat" Helena ordered softly, Sarah blinked before she did.

Helena with flowing black hair slowly turned to the back of the seat, she stood beside Sarah and with a gentle touch, the witch extended her hand, and her palm started to glow with a delicate, ethereal light.

"Open your eyes in your mind" she whispered into the ears of Conan’s mother. Helena clenched her palm and extended it again.

She took a deep breath before she ordered. "Try to see, wish to see"

Sarah gulped before she began to make an effort to do what the witch had advised.

As Helena channelled her magic to her palm, she started to whisper a few words that only she could hear, she felt the magic consume her and she unconsciously smiled, it had been a while.

The energy she had lost saving Conan had restored and she had saved slot since she was in his house, lest the one she had used to communicate with Red, she had barely used a good among of her magic.

"Close your eyes please" She whispered to the elder lady.

She placed her palm over Sarah’s eyes and her cold fingertips made Sarah suck on a breath. Helena continued to whisper chants, a spell to break the magic.

Slowly, intricate patterns danced across Sarah’s skin, weaving spells of restoration. Her eyes itched at first making her closed eyes waver. She gasped as warmth flooded her sightless eyes, she felt warmer and the itch had subsided.

Helena gently took her palm away from the lady’s eyes and colours slowly started to swirl into the focus of Sarah’s eyes, the world began to transform the world was no longer plunged in darkness but slowly into vibrant hues.

Sarah could not believe it. Tears of joy welled in her eyes as she began to behold the beauty around her again, her parlour, all of her arrangements the way her love had done it for her.

She turned to her back quickly, gratitude radiating from her every gesture as she watched Helena whose magic had gifted her the precious gift of sight once more.

The girl is a powerful witch, she thought. But if she wanted to keep it from her son, Sarah would help her uphold it.

"Thank you, Helena, you have the most lovely eyes too" Sarah complimented truthfully.

Helena’s eyes watered along with Sarah’s, she suddenly missed her mother. "Thank you, I must leave," she said softly.

Sarah blinked surprised but not intending to force the young lady. "Be sure to return to see me again" Sarah invited.

"That I will" Helena declared, opened the door and strolled out.

She entered the carriage and told the coachman to head to the only place she felt a bond.

***************

After breakfast, Lydia had left the mansion with Hound and Shi’Enz to purchase all the tools and machinery she would need in other to make jewellery. It did not take them much time to buy everything and come back home. At first, Hound had been silently against it but Lydia had then turned it into an order making him oblige.

They got back to the mansion and Shi’Enz had to leave for the Statham estate because the father had heard about her movements and was not happy about it, he had ordered his daughter to return home immediately. Hound had felt an unexplainable urge to follow her or hold her back but curbing it happened to protect his lady.

In a quaint workroom nestled in the room next to Theodore’s office, Lydia is seen in her new dungaree.

She had set up her workroom right next to her husband’s office as he had said there would be no working outside the mansion. She had mauled over it and realised the idea of going out daily to work somewhere was not unappealing to her. She could have a shop later on but that would be if the business had kick-started then.

As her library is vast and gathered a majority of information, she still didn’t find one about making jewellery so she dug into Theodore’s collection. The writing was short but it had been a good guidance.

Alone with her pet, she sat at her workbench not without its bottom pillow, she took her hair in a bun and started to hum a song.

With a focused gaze, she envisioned the masterpiece she was about to create.

Like the spark of inspiration she had yesterday, she had another and wanted to bring it to life this time.

She meticulously sketched the design on her paper, her passion for craftsmanship growing.

With her design finalized, Lydia turned her attention to selecting the perfect gemstone.

She perused through an array of dazzling gems, each one telling its own story through vibrant colours and unique formations. After much contemplation, she decided on a mesmerizing green, its deep hue reminiscent of a tranquil green ocean. Her nimble fingers delicately handled a shimmering gemstone. She had chosen two green pieces for her first work.

Next came the intricate process of shaping the gemstone to fit her vision. Lydia sat at her lapidary wheel, the soft hum of machinery filling the air as she carefully sculpted the sapphire into a brilliant faceted gem.

With each precise cut, she revealed the stone’s inner brilliance, transforming it into a radiant centrepiece for her jewellery piece.

As the gemstone took shape, Lydia meticulously crafted the setting that would cradle it with care. She selected the finest gold from her collection, its warm glow complementing the cool tones of the sapphire. With steady hands, she moulded the metal into an elegant frame, ensuring that every detail was flawless.

With the gemstone and setting prepared, Lydia began the complicated process of assembly.

She tried and failed the first time but then she placed the sapphire into its golden embrace, securing it with delicate prongs that would hold it steadfast for generations to come.

With each movement, she poured her heart as it pounded and her soul in its eager form into her work, infusing the piece with her passion and dedication.

Finally, as the last finishing touches were applied, Lydia finally breathed fine. She moved Red away from her feet the cat groaned as Lydia stood up and then stepped back to admire her creation.

The gem gleamed with an otherworldly brilliance, its light green depths reflecting the light with an ethereal glow.

Surrounding it, the golden setting shimmered with a timeless elegance, a testament to Lydia’s natural artistry and skill.

Her first work and talent.
