Lord Evolution: Starting With SS-rank Skills
Chapter 293 - 293: Calamity.(13)

"What is happening?"

Kneeling and grabbing his head like it was going to explode any second later, Rowan wondered what was happening.

The headache throbbing his head appears to increase by the second. No matter how hard he tried to calm it down, it just kept increasing, sending an unbearable current of pain drifting through his body.

Black Drifter was worried about the condition of his master.

It shrunk into a small size and rested on the shoulder of his master, attempting to check for trace of anything bothering him.

But his attempts were futile as Rowan was going through a mental breakdown rather than a physical pain.

Rowan recognized the cause of the throbbing pain — that strange memory. The pain only seems to increase the more he tries to resurface that strange memory.

Thus, Rowan stopped his attempts and the pain began to reduce.

After about a minute, the pain miraculously vanished.

Rowan remained on the ground, panting.

"What the fuck was that?"

Unfortunately, there was no response from the system.

"Is this some mystery shit like what those main characters in novels go through? Where they have an important memory in their mind but recalling those memories could result in death if they are not strong enough."

For the moment, this was the only logical explanation for his current situation.

But Rowan could not forget the fact that it all started because he tried to question the origin of his system, the five unique skills and how they have been affecting his life so far.

His only conclusion was that whosoever created the system doesn't want him to question his situation.

"Well, I guess I should only attempt to get stronger and stronger using the unique skills in my possession. Even if I have to go through unbearable pain and survive through harsh situations for strength, I'll make sure to succeed."

THUNDER!

The sky was still dark, lightning danced around the dark clouds and thunder announced the arrival of a drastic storm.

Rowan stared at the dark clouds for a few seconds and let out a soft sigh. Then he opened his system and went to his [Power] tab — he is going to attempt his evolution once again.

[Ding! CHANCES OF HOST DYING IS ABOVE 99%]

[DING! DO NOT ATTEMPT]

[DING! POWER CORE HAVE A 99.5% CHANCE OF GETTING DESTROYED DURING THIS ATTEMPT]

These and several other prompts popped out the moment he made his second attempt.

Rowan hissed.

"I have resistance skill, it can reduce my rate of dying to about eighty percent. Twenty percent chances of surviving is more than enough for me."

With those thoughts in mind, he proceeded.

[Evolve to C-rank | Cost: 400,000,000 evolution points]

The amount to attempt the evolution was more than he could imagine.

Fortunately, Rowan was wealthy enough in evolution points to not bother about such a large amount of it.

He paid without looking back.

DING!

Evolving — 0.01%

Evolving — 0.02%

Rowan evolution to C-rank kick-started.

Just like his previous evolutions, his body was bombarded with unbearable pain — this time, the pain was one hundred times more painful than the previous ones.

His insides were tormented with heat as though he had just swallowed lava. His body became heavy, as though the heavens had purposely increased gravitation to a level unbearable by any living beings.

His head was greeted with an unbearable migraine, capable of driving one insane and birth suicidal thought in their heads in order to end the torment.

All his orifices bled out profusely.

These and many other pain inflicted Rowan.

There was some pain he felt that were impossible to describe. He believed he is the first person to ever go through this much pain — this world was purposely letting him through such pain, why? Unfortunately there were no answers.

The pain continued for half an hour without end, growing more unbearable by the seconds.

At some point, Rowan birthed the thoughts of asking his own pet to end his life. He wanted to give that commandment so bad but he couldn't even if he so much desired it. Not only could he not find the strength to mutter a simple words, even controlling his own thoughts were impossible.

His only choice was to bear the pain — he either dies from it or survive and become stronger, there was no other way around it.

Black Drifter grew worried as it could tell just how much pain its master was going through. But it was helpless.

It let out loud cries as though sharing the pain of his master.

The sky was still dark, layered with constant lightning, its anger voiced out by the frequent ground shaking thunder.

Beneath the rumbling sky, the humans and the calamities engaged in intense warfare.

A warfare so intense that each being could only fight for its own survival as helping out others could be their own downfall.

In this warfare of tens of thousands of monsters and hundreds of humans, death became constant.

If a reaper were to arrive each second a being dies, the battlefield would be filled with hundreds of them every second that passes by. It was just that brutal.

Merla called back one of her purple hobgoblins to help assist her as she had grown tired of swinging her spell.

She is a summoner who had been trained since birth to rely on her summoned creatures, she had only taken up the spear in order to defend herself should her mana run out.

Thus, her endurance with the weapon was pretty weak. She grew bored and tired right away.

Eliman on the other hand was quite the opposite. He grew up in a noble family that relied on brute magical combat and was forced to go through rigorous endurance training at a young age, hence while the blood mage still performed extremely well even after hours of nonstop combat.

His endurance was perfect for a mage.

As perfect as the soldiers who did not give up despite the numbers of enemies around them.

Close to the entrance of Winterseed village, Winston and Dragun could be seen inscribing a large and complex magic formation on the ground.

The sky rumbled and grumbled angrily.

As though it was aware of what the two were plaining, the sky opened up and began to rain heavily — each rain drop were like blunt spikes, striking down on the earth with brute speed.

"The rain has started already, this is bad!"

The soldiers complained, in just a few seconds that the sky opened up, fighting off their opponents had already become extremely difficult.

The monsters on the other, especially the serpent type ones and those with water affinity, grew stronger and latched out on them.

The rain also disrupted the formation Dragun and Winston were working on.

Before the two could complain, a large bubbly shield formed a canopy over the area they were working on, surprising them.

Both of them looked around and saw Riela strolling towards them. She was covered in a beautiful robe that repelled the heavy rainfall, her head was covered in a scarf made out of the same unique material, she wasn't affected by the rainfall.

Her hands were stretched out, obviously maintaining the bubble canopy around them.

"Lady Riela, what are you doing here? It is very dangerous."

Winston became worried.

"He is saying the truth, you shouldn't be here, Riela."

Riela nodded with a sweet smile, "I was delivering new robes to the villagers, so I decided to come here and take a look before returning and then I saw you two struggling and decided to help. I'll leave once you are done."

Dragun and Winston paused for a second and then agreed for her to stay, though they were still very worried for her safety.

Riela tilted her eyes in the direction of the bloodied battlefield.

It was still very dark out here, but with the frequent lightning, she was able to see what was happening and it was nothing short of terrifying.

Her eyes fell upon monsters she never imagined existed till this moment.

She also noticed their vast numbers that seems unending and became worried for the sake of her people.

She could only pray for their survival.

"Where is Rowan?"

She asked Dragun.

Dragun replied and told her that Rowan was deep within the horde, pushing back stronger monsters.

Unfortunately, he was wrong, Rowan was far away from the battlefield, battling with the tight grip of death.

After a few minutes, Dragun and Winston finally completed the formation.

Dragun placed all the mana cores at specific points of the complex magic formation. Then he brought out a thick backed ancient looking book from his spatial pouch and began reciting estranged chants from it.

Soon, the formation bloomed with a radiant glow.

The glow was so blinding that Riela and Winston had to look away.

BOOOM!

A pillar of ethereal bright light suddenly erupted from the formation and pierced the sky.

An unreal change began to take place.
