Chapter 169: Chapter 164: Monster

The blonde woman’s heart finally succumbed to fear.

She had simply wanted to find some excitement, then flaunt it before others, but how could she handle such a thrill?

She hadn’t expected this basement to actually harbor danger!

"You... you okay?"

The blonde woman knelt beside the hat man, at a loss, her face a mask of panic.

"You... don’t, please don’t be hurt! What am I supposed to do? How am I supposed to cope? I don’t want to die!"

However, the blonde woman did nothing but shout, not even attempting to stop the hat man’s bleeding.

"Ah..." The hat man, seemingly on his last breath, whispered to her with a trembling, weak voice, "Save... save me, let’s leave this place together."

"Leave this place? Yes! Leave this place!" Realization dawned on the blonde woman, who immediately grabbed the hat man’s hands and started dragging him away.

Unable to spare her hands to hold the flashlight, she threw it on the ground. Luckily, they weren’t far from the basement door, and a sliver of light shining through was enough to see the way back.

But just then, the blonde woman saw something lurking in the seemingly endless darkness of the basement.

Those crimson eyes, so glaring in the dark, and staring straight at her.

"...Ah!" The blonde woman felt a bone-chilling fear, letting out a scream and abandoning the hat man as she fled.

"Wait... don’t, don’t leave me..." The hat man felt the weight of his body, as if he were sinking deeper into a quagmire of despair.

But the hat man could only watch powerlessly as his girlfriend stumbled and fled, leaving him behind.

"...Huh? What’s happening?" Xiao Yi, who had been trying out a new Skill, also heard the shrill scream.

The source of the noise was undoubtedly coming from the direction of the basement!

Xiao Yi lost interest in experimenting with his new Skill and immediately headed for the basement.

There, the blonde woman emerged just as he arrived at the basement door.

Upon seeing Xiao Yi, she displayed a look of surprise, as if she had seen her Savior.

"Help me!" She rushed toward Xiao Yi, seeking some reassurance.

But Xiao Yi sidestepped her, causing her to plunge forward into empty space and face-plant to the ground.

"Ouch..." The blonde woman felt her nose might have gotten crooked.

Xiao Yi asked her, "What happened down there?"

The blonde woman hurriedly replied, "Down there! There’s a monster!"

"Monster?" Xiao Yi frowned slightly, "What kind of monster? And where’s the hat man who was with you?"

"He... he..." The blonde woman suddenly started sobbing again.

"..." Xiao Yi spoke exasperatedly, "Why are you crying? Hurry up and tell me, if you don’t I’ll go down and see for myself."

With that, Xiao Yi prepared to head into the basement, and the blonde woman’s crying immediately ceased. In a rush, she said:

"He was attacked by that monster! I meant to rescue him, but I’m too weak, no match for the monster, I had to come out for help."

"..." Xiao Yi didn’t believe in monsters; it was probably just a larger animal, like a wild beast or something.

Although this desolate mountain didn’t look like it harbored wild animals, there were no other explanations.

If it was just an ordinary beast, Xiao Yi could have dealt with it easily.

So, Xiao Yi once again stepped forward to check the situation in the basement.

However, what Xiao Yi didn’t expect was... the monster. It actually appeared before him!

"What...!?" At the sight of the monster, Xiao Yi couldn’t help but be stunned.

It bent down, slowly walking out from the entrance of the basement. The somewhat pale incandescent light illuminated its true form.

Despite being hunched over, it was still twice Xiao Yi’s height! With a physique two or three times stronger than Clements’, covered in grey fur, and with fresh bloodstains stretching from its chest downwards.

The mouth full of sharp teeth and those crimson eyes allowed Xiao Yi to recognize its true identity at a glance!

"Is that... a werewolf?"

Xiao Yi was taken aback. Its figure was exactly like the werewolves he had seen in movies!

"Aooou!"

Immediately after, the werewolf’s gaze passed over Xiao Yi, dead set on the blonde woman behind him. It raised its claws high, lifting its head, and let out an elevated howl.

Clearly, it was ready to strike!

Xiao Yi’s expression tensed as he braced for the confrontation. However, before he could act, he heard gunshots.

Xiao Yi turned to look and saw Clements, who had arrived out of nowhere, holding a gun and continuously firing at the werewolf!

The werewolf was hit by several bullets, and although it wasn’t severely wounded, it showed some fear of the firearms. It growled lowly, then turned and fled down the other end of the corridor.

Clements fired several more shots at the fleeing werewolf until the magazine was empty. The werewolf had completely vanished.

"...," Xiao Yi watched this scene, thinking that if the others could see it too, then the werewolf must not be a hallucination of his own.

Xiao Yi then looked at Clements, wanting to ask him what exactly was going on.

But Clements was frowning, growling at the blonde woman:

"Damn it! Didn’t I tell you not to come to the basement?"

The blonde woman, instead of feeling ashamed when reprimanded, boldly questioned:

"How was I supposed to know that thing was in there? It’s all your fault! You didn’t make that clear! Otherwise, we wouldn’t have gone there! You caused my boyfriend to have an accident!"

"If I had told you, would you have believed me? Would you have obediently stayed away?"

"Of course!" the blonde woman answered assertively.

"..." Clements pressed a hand to his forehead, looking somewhat vexed.

"..." Xiao Yi watched Clements, feeling an increasing sense of strangeness within him, but given the current situation, he had no heart to ponder further and could only ask, "Clements, what on earth is going on?"

"Ah..." Clements let out a slight sigh, "I discovered that creature accidentally. I thought that the basement door would lock it in, but it managed to escape."

"What are you talking about!?" said the blonde woman, displeased even though no one was blaming her, "Are you trying to say it’s my fault? Are you, a grown man, really blaming me for this?"

Clements: "..."

Seeing that Clements didn’t retort, the blonde woman pressed her advantage.

"And another thing! Don’t just stand there! Go rescue my boyfriend right away! If he dies, you can’t shirk the responsibility! Just you wait!"

As for Xiao Yi standing aside, he could hardly bear to watch anymore.
