Chapter 83 - 83-An unexpected reaction to Elkampen’s phone call!(2nd update, Cheer me with Power Stones!)

In the corridor, the gunmen looked solemn.

They rushed to the room at the end of the second floor, praying silently.

Praying that God would keep Lexio safe.

Following Nicola’s orders, they had just returned to the RGB Bar when they saw a female doctor running down crying.

After inquiring, they found out a ruggedly handsome young man with a silver handgun was upstairs.

They immediately stormed upstairs.

Just as they were about to reach the door, they heard a gunshot from inside the room.

Everyone silently swore, one of them kicked the door open, and they all rushed in.

Seven guns scanned the room, only to find Lexio lying in a pool of blood and an open window.

One of the men shouted, "Call an ambulance!" He then ran to the window, trying to spot Daniel.

By this time, Daniel had already slipped around the corner following the wall’s contour, out of their line of sight.

He made it to his car, making a swift escape from the scene.

Nicola was filled with regret. He hadn’t expected Daniel to pull such a surprising move.

He got back to the bar before his subordinates, and Lexio was killed.

He gritted his teeth, his fists clenched tight.

Pulling out his phone, he dialed the Godfather’s number.

Lexio had practically died under his watch, he felt obligated to report to the Godfather himself.

The phone was promptly answered, the Godfather’s voice on the other end, "Hey! My old friend, what’s up?"

Elkampen knew his old partner’s character, unless it was a big deal, he wouldn’t call out of the blue.

Nicola guiltily said, "Lexio is dead."

Elkampen was taken aback, counter-questioning, "What happened?"

Nicola replied, "Lexio messed with a young man named Daniel, kidnapped his girlfriend. In his rage, Daniel killed Lexio, just now."

Nicola didn’t like Lexio in the first place, so he didn’t sugarcoat the news.

He continued, "I’ve investigated this Daniel. He seems to have some connections. I was once called by him, warning me not to mess with Daniel. I warned Lexio honestly, but it was all for naught. However, based on my speculation, the relationship between Daniel and him wouldn’t be that close."

Elkampen mused, "The Daniel you’re referring to, is he the strikingly handsome, charismatic young man from Serenalia?"

Nicola pondered, "I only saw him briefly, but your description isn’t far off."

Elkampen suddenly laughed, "Interesting, very interesting."

He didn’t expect that Daniel would have such means.

Although Lexio was his own nephew, Elkampen had plenty of nephews and nieces, and Lexio was not a kind he liked, so Elkampen didn’t anger but instead laughed.

Elkampen continued, "You don’t need to worry about Lexio’s situation. Call Hilton, let him take care of his own son’s corpse, and you come to me."

Nicola obediently said, "Yes," and then hung up the phone.

Daniel drove back to Rachel’s apartment.

Upon entering, he saw Sophia fast asleep on the couch. Daniel walked over and squatted beside her.

The sleeping Sophia was still very beautiful, but her eyebrows were tightly knitted, her eyes under her eyelids were constantly moving, her curled up body shivered from time to time, obviously scared and having nightmares.

Daniel gently patted Sophia’s body and softly said, "Darling, sleep peacefully. I’m here with you, no one can hurt you."

After saying that, he lightly kissed her on the face.

Sophia’s body instantly stopped shivering, her brows relaxed, and a small smile curled up on her lips.

Although her eyes were still moving under her eyelids, her nightmares were likely replaced by sweet dreams.

Daniel sighed with relief, stood up, and went back to his room.

He switched on his laptop, casually fiddled with the browser and entered the surveillance system of the RGB Bar.

After deleting all video files and backups, ensuring no copying traces, he shut down his laptop.

By erasing these crucial pieces of evidence, the opposition would have a hard time prosecuting him legally.

Daniel exhaled a long breath, his top-tier hacking skills had finally come into handy.

He then stripped naked, washing off the scent of gunpowder on his body from the gunfight.

Just as he dried off his body, he heard his phone ringing. Daniel glanced at it, an unfamiliar number.

He didn’t really want to answer, but instinctively he tapped the call button. From the other end of the line, a grizzled voice echoed, "Daniel, you’ve got quite the nerve!"

This voice, it was unfamiliar yet somehow familiar. Daniel furrowed his brows, "Who is this?"

The elderly voice chimed again, "Elkampen."

The Godfather of the Black Hat Gang!

Daniel was instantly on guard. This old guy must have found out he had offed his nephew, hence the call for confrontation.

"I’m not sure what you’re talking about, Godfather," Daniel feigned ignorance, denying everything.

Elkampen snorted disdainfully, barking, "So you kill my nephew and now you’re playing dumb?"

Daniel retorted calmly, "I have no idea where that came from. I’m a law-abiding citizen, I don’t deal in bloodshed or arson."

At this, Elkampen burst into hearty laughter, "You sly devil, always on your toes!"

This sudden burst of mirth left Daniel utterly flabbergasted.

This old fart was all over the place, first angry then laughing.

Was he having some sort of mental issue?

Elkampen suggested, "Come pay me a visit, I have a few questions for you."

Daniel flatly declined, "I’m rather busy at the moment."

Joke’s on him, he had just killed the old guy’s nephew.

Being invited over seemed like nothing more than a trap to capture him.

Only a fool would walk into that.

Elkampen seemed to sense Daniel’s trepidation, saying, "Relax, I couldn’t care less about Lexio. I just need you to give me a second opinion."

A ’second opinion,’ an idiom used when evaluating items.

But Daniel continued to decline, "No, thanks. There are plenty of evaluators more qualified than me. I’m sure they’d be more than happy to lend their expertise, given your status."

On the other end, Elkampen looked exasperated. "So, you know they’d be more than willing to lend a hand, and yet you’re still refusing?"

Daniel was, of course, adamant about refusing.

No matter what Elkampen said, Lexio was still his nephew, and Daniel found it hard to believe that Elkampen held no sentimentality towards Lexio.

Even the slightest bit of affection could lead him to act against an outsider like Daniel.

Keeping this in mind, Daniel’s resolution only grew stronger, "If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up."

In truth, Daniel was at a loss.

He had planned on selling the gold mine to Elkampen.

But with this recent development, he would have to find another buyer.

Hearing the dull beeping on the other end, Elkampen was dumbfounded.

It had been years since someone had hung up on him, yet this little scoundrel had the audacity.

If he wanted Daniel to evaluate the item, he would have to seek him out personally.

Just then, a cute little figure ran up to Elkampen, her laughter ringing out like a bell, "Grandpa! Who were you on the phone with just now?"

Elkampen looked at Anna affectionately and asked, "Do you remember the big brother we met in Antique City last time?"

Anna vigorously nodded her head, "Of course I remember! If it weren’t for that handsome brother, Anna and Grandpa would have been swindled out of our money!"

Elkampen smiled knowingly, "Then shall we go and find that big brother?"

Anna immediately jumped with joy, "Yes, yes, yes!!!"

At Rachel’s apartment.

Sophia had been badly shaken and, although Daniel’s presence had soothed her nightmares, she had slept till the next day.

Waking up in her room, she surmised that Daniel must have carried her there.

The thought brought a warm smile to her face.

Stepping out of her room, she spotted Daniel bustling around the kitchen area.

"What’s cooking?" Sophia asked, her voice tender with a warm smile.

"You’re awake!" Daniel returned the smile. "Go freshen up. Breakfast will be ready in a jiffy – hot milk and sandwiches."

Sophia nodded, "Smells divine, I’ll be right back after freshening up."

Once she had finished, Daniel had already set the breakfast neatly on the table.

As Sophia settled down to eat, she realized she hadn’t seen Rachel around and couldn’t help asking, "Where’s Rachel?"

Daniel blinked in surprise, only then did he remember, "I’m not sure, I haven’t seen her since yesterday."

Thinking back to the words Rachel had said when she hugged him, he couldn’t help but feel uneasy.

Even though she had insisted it was a joke, he couldn’t shake off the concern.

Had Rachel really left?

After breakfast, Daniel decided, he would head over to the Gold Beach Police Department to check.

"Eat while it’s hot. It won’t taste as good when it’s cold," he encouraged.

Sophia nodded, eating quickly.

Just then, the doorbell rang.

Daniel was taken aback. Who could it be this early in the morning?

He walked over to the door and peered through the peephole, only to see a familiar little face.

Wasn’t this... the little girl that Elkampen had brought with him to Antique City?

So, Elkampen was here?!

Daniel quickly reacted, rushing back into the room to grab his Desert Eagle.

The knocking continued, followed by a youthful voice, "Big brother, it’s Anna. Open the door, please!"
