Chapter 102 - 102-Lost Ruins, Ghoul?! (1st update, Cheer me with Power Stones!)
Daniel followed Hols and Taylor, circling around the base of the pyramid until they finally stopped on the northern side.
At a height of about fifteen meters from the ground, there was an entrance made from four gigantic stones shaped into a triangle.
That was where they planned to enter the pyramid.
Hols and Taylor climbed swiftly over the giant stone steps heading straight towards the entrance.
Daniel kept up close behind them.
In the darkness, the entrance appeared incredibly black, like a monstrous, man-eating mouth, exuding an eerie, terrifying aura.
Daniel felt a chill creep up his spine.
He gathered his courage and pressed on, following the faint light of Hols and Taylor.
The echo of footsteps in the silent and narrow entrance passage was the only sound.
However, the next moment, there was a sudden thud.
Taylor, who was leading the way, seemed to have collided with something.
His head was spinning, and his vision darkened.
"Fuck, what the hell is this?" Taylor cursed in confusion.
Hols was puzzled, initially thinking Taylor had lost his way and bumped into the wall.
But when he looked forward, he saw that the passage was clear, the faint light unable to reach the end.
What had Taylor collided with?
Hols felt a tight knot in his chest, and quickly drew his gun, loading the bullet.
The crisp sound echoed for a while before dying down in the tunnel.
Silence.
The kind of silence that feels like death.
The trio, including Daniel, stood still as if under a spell.
Any slight noise could feel like a bombshell.
Thankfully, everything remained quiet. There were no horrifying sounds as they had feared.
Hols let out a sigh of relief: "Heh, seems like we’re just overreacting."
"After all, how could a sacred relic, where God once appeared, be haunted by demons?"
"Let’s keep moving."
With that said, Hols mustered up his courage and stepped over Taylor, taking the lead.
Daniel stayed silent, simply watching.
He was just as on edge but ready to retreat at any moment.
If anything went wrong, he wouldn’t risk staying with these two any longer.
As the light from his headlamp brushed over Taylor’s face, Daniel noticed the terror on Taylor’s face as if he’d seen something horrifying.
Taylor didn’t say anything, and Daniel didn’t ask. They just kept moving forward.
As they continued, Daniel couldn’t help but look back a couple of times, only to shockingly discover that the entrance had vanished!
They had been walking straight since they entered, not very far, and should still be able to see the starlit sky outside.
But now, there was only darkness.
Daniel was about to warn Taylor and Hols when Hols’s surprised voice rang out.
"A dead-end?"
Daniel leaned forward, his headlamp light shining directly onto a stone wall.
Clearly, it was a dead-end.
Taylor lifted his arm, and the action computer on his wrist lit up, followed by a three-dimensional projection of the pyramid.
Taylor glanced at it and said, "We didn’t take the wrong path. The route is behind this wall, we need to blow it up."
Daniel took a step back: "You’re not thinking about blowing it up now, are you?"
The narrow passageway, barely wide enough for two people side by side, wouldn’t provide any place to hide if they really detonated something.
And not to mention, the unknown if the tunnel could withstand the power of an explosion.
There was a real risk of being buried alive if an explosion was triggered.
Fortunately, Hols wasn’t that foolish.
He took out a pickaxe and slammed it into the stone wall with all his strength.
Bang!
The pickaxe, under the force, was lodged directly into the stone wall.
But it was as if it was stuck.
Hols tried his hardest, but couldn’t get the pickaxe out, let alone break the stone.
Taylor also gave it a try, with the same result.
The treasure was within reach, but a wall was blocking their path, which irritated Hols greatly.
"Blow it up! Blow it up!" "Damn it, a wall wants to block my way, blast it!"
Taylor took off his backpack, preparing to take out the explosives.
Daniel hurried forward to stop him: "Let me try."
Taylor saw Daniel going to retrieve the pickaxe and said, "Forget it, if Hols and I can’t do it, we might as well just blow it up. We can run far enough to be safe."
Daniel didn’t answer, he gripped the pickaxe in both hands.
The appearance of this wall clearly exceeded the expectations of Hols and Taylor.
Otherwise, they would have brought a drill, not a pickaxe.
A normal person, how could they possibly chisel through a stone wall with a pickaxe.
Of course, Daniel is not a normal person.
The doubled strength of his body made his arms incredibly strong.
He held the pickaxe in both hands and with a low voice shouted, "Ha!"
The pickaxe lodged in the wall made a crisp sound and spread cracks all around.
Daniel pulled out the pickaxe and landed another precise strike.
Crash!
With strong collisions, numerous pieces of stone splashed out, and a hole appeared in the hard stone wall.
In front of the stunned Hols and Taylor, Daniel swung the pickaxe, and forcibly dug a small hole in the stone wall that could allow a person to crawl through.
Seeing the road clear, Hols didn’t hesitate at all and dived in.
Taylor gave Daniel a thumbs up and then also crawled in.
Daniel was about to follow when he suddenly felt a chill from behind.
Instinctively, he pulled out his gun and quickly swung it back to fire at what he felt behind him.
The muzzle flash illuminated the surroundings, but he saw nothing.
Under the light, Daniel vigilantly watched his surroundings.
After a standoff, he finally lowered his gun.
He breathed a sigh of relief, just now he felt as if he was being watched by a wild beast.
But he reacted fast enough, and the narrow passage didn’t provide any hiding places.
If there was something, he should have been able to see it.
But since there was nothing, maybe it was just his nerves.
As Daniel turned around, he suddenly realized something was wrong.
The gunshot he just fired, neither Hols nor Taylor turned back to check what happened.
It was about their safety, they wouldn’t have no reaction.
Daniel hurriedly shined his light into the hole.
The bright light was swallowed by the endless darkness, the tunnel behind the stone wall seemed bottomless, he couldn’t see the end.
He even couldn’t see Hols and Taylor who had just crawled through!
Something was definitely off!
Daniel kept his cool. Panic wasn’t an option for him.
His eyes were locked onto the front, gripping his Desert Eagle as he ventured forth.
After a couple of steps, Daniel froze, focusing on the depths of the tunnel.
A sudden crimson glow appeared far in the tunnel, as ominous as the eyes of a man-eating beast.
Eerie and terrifying.
Upon seeing the glow, Daniel couldn’t help but frown.
Could this creature have taken down Hols and Taylor?
Both of them were armed.
Even in a sudden attack, they wouldn’t just go down without a fight.
Perhaps, it had nothing to do with them.
Hols and Taylor never made it into this tunnel.
An incredulous idea surfaced in his mind as Daniel braved forward towards the glowing eyes.
Getting closer, he couldn’t help but let out a sardonic laugh.
The crimson light was not the eyes of a beast, but two rubies inlaid in the wall.
The flashlight’s beam reflected off the rubies, casting a red glow.
It wasn’t just two; the entire wall was encrusted with rubies.
Countless beams of red light reflected off them under the illumination.
Suddenly, there was a cacophony of sounds, like stone walls being moved and gears rolling.
Accompanied by the noise, the walls started to vibrate.
Debris fell within the tunnel, stirring up dust.
When everything settled down, Daniel noticed an area resembling a room appeared on the left side of the tunnel.
Torches were burning on the walls of the space.
The sudden brightness after darkness was incredibly blinding.
Before Daniel could wonder where the torches came from, he was instantly on high alert.
The ceiling and walls were covered with dark stains of blood, and dry skeletons were everywhere, even covering the floor.
It felt like a place of punishment.
And the platform in the center looked like an execution stand.
Suddenly, shouts came from around him: "Dan!"
"Can you hear us? Dan?!"
Daniel frowned, the voice sounded like Hols.
The shouts echoed in the space, making it hard to pinpoint a direction.
He asked: "Where are you?"
"We fell into a trap, right beneath you!" Hols shouted.
Daniel looked down, but all he could see was a stone floor covered in skeletal remains.
"We need you to walk to the middle of the platform. There’s a raised stone on the floor there. Step on it, and the mechanism will be activated. Taylor and I can get out!" Hols continued.
Following Hols’s instructions, Daniel quickly found the raised stone.
He placed his foot on it but didn’t put any pressure.
Hols was obviously anxious: "Step on it already!"
"Taylor’s foot is injured; he needs medical attention immediately!"
Daniel scanned the walls. He had a gut feeling that Hols and Taylor were behind one of the walls, watching him.
"Why can’t I see you?" He asked, eyebrows knitted together.
"How the hell should I know!" Hols snapped back impatiently.
"Step on that damn stone already, the Ghoul is coming!"
Daniel froze for a moment.
Ghoul?
What the hell is that?
Before he could ask, however, a bone-chilling scream pierced the air.
