Chapter 61: Chapter 61 I’m Not Interested in Money
After Qin Yi came out, he quickly put Lin Hongzhuang’s matter behind him. He even told Xia Yanbing, Xiaobing would be suspicious anyway, right?
He took out his phone and called Lan Jiaojiao.
"Qin Yi, I’m really sorry, I can’t leave today. Why don’t you come over and pick it up?" Lan Jiaojiao’s apologetic voice came from the other end of the phone.
Qin Yi didn’t initially want to go, but he was eager to get the herbs quickly. He worried that delays would allow Lan Jiaojiao to play tricks, as she didn’t exactly look trustworthy.
"Alright, I’ll call you when I get there."
Qin Yi hung up the phone, left Hidden Dragon Bay, and hailed a cab to the Lan Family.
When he reached the entrance of the Lan Family manor, Qin Yi felt a pang of envy, wondering when he could have a manor to live in, too.
Shortly after he called Lan Jiaojiao, she hurried out.
"Where are the herbs?" Qin Yi asked, seeing that Lan Jiaojiao’s hands were empty.
"They’re inside, all prepared for you," Lan Jiaojiao said with a worried look, speaking indifferently.
"Are you okay?" Qin Yi asked reflexively.
Lan Jiaojiao’s eyes dimmed, "Grandpa took the White Dragon Scale, but his condition hasn’t improved."
"Oh!" Qin Yi wasn’t a fool. He naturally wouldn’t offer to take a look. After all, this was the esteemed medicine practitioner Lan Wangxu. If he cured the illness, it’d be great; if not, whose fault would it be?
Lan Jiaojiao suddenly looked at Qin Yi, her gaze filled with hope. "You also know medicine, and your skills are excellent. Could you save my grandpa?"
"Miss Lan, though I know a bit about medicine, you’re from a family of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners. If you all can’t treat it, I surely can’t either," Qin Yi said.
"Twenty million," Lan Jiaojiao suddenly said.
"What?" Qin Yi was puzzled.
"Save my grandpa, and I’ll give you twenty million," Lan Jiaojiao said. Qin Yi, although younger than her, had impressive means. She inexplicably believed Qin Yi would have a solution.
"This isn’t about money. The key is, I..."
"Thirty million." Lan Jiaojiao added ten million before Qin Yi could finish his sentence.
"Miss Lan, you misunderstood. I’m not interested in money; I’m just not confident."
"Forty million."
"Uh... You’re putting me in a tough spot. I’m really not confident."
"Fifty million. Also, I can assure you that in the future, whatever medicine you need, the Lan Family will fully support you and won’t charge a penny."
"Lead the way," Qin Yi said.
Lan Jiaojiao was slightly startled, a bit of joy in her eyes, "I knew you’d have a way."
"I’m really not confident. Don’t blame me if it doesn’t work."
"It’s okay, don’t worry. As long as you can alleviate my grandpa’s pain, we’ll be grateful."
Qin Yi nodded, "Let’s be clear, I’m not doing it for the money. I’m just concerned about the elderly gentleman’s health."
Lan Jiaojiao’s mouth twitched slightly, she didn’t reply.
When they arrived at the Lan Family’s villa, there were many people inside, all wearing worried expressions. However, Qin Yi noticed an interesting phenomenon; some of these concerns were feigned.
Uncle Chen was quite surprised to see Qin Yi and nodded slightly, given their first meeting hadn’t been pleasant.
"Jiaojiao, who’s this?" a middle-aged man in his fifties came over and asked. This person was Lan Jiaojiao’s second uncle, Lan Xingye.
Lan Jiaojiao responded indifferently, "I brought him to treat Grandpa."
Lan Xingye glanced at Qin Yi, frowning, "Nonsense, we are a family of Chinese medicine practitioners. Is there anyone in Yinfeng City better than us? Especially someone... who is handicapped."
"Jiaojiao, where did you find this person?" a man who looked very much like Lan Xingye walked over and asked. This was Lan Jiaojiao’s third uncle, Lan Xingwang.
Lan Jiaojiao frowned, "His medical skills are very good."
Lan Jiaojiao was very smart. Qin Yi was willing to be a live-in son-in-law, surely he was hiding something, so she didn’t reveal Qin Yi’s identity.
"What do you mean ’very good’? Can anyone’s skills surpass our Lan Family’s?"
"He’s a cripple himself, who would believe he has good medical skills?"
Qin Yi slightly frowned, looking at these chattering people in front of him. Indeed, not every family is as harmonious as they seem.
"Jiaojiao, it seems you’re not trying to save Grandpa but to harm him," a woman with heavy makeup said as she walked over.
"Third Sister, no one wants Grandpa to get better more than I do," Lan Jiaojiao replied coldly.
Third Sister?
Qin Yi was momentarily stunned, was she a sister or an aunt? People would believe she was Lan Jiaojiao’s mother.
"If something happens to Grandpa, will you take responsibility?"
Lan Jiaojiao said, "I will take responsibility."
"Ridiculous, how will you take responsibility?" Lan Xingwang walked over angrily and turned to another man, "Fourth Brother, look at your daughter, she’s trying to kill our dad."
Qin Yi turned his head and saw an honest-looking man shrinking to the side without speaking. Was this Lan Jiaojiao’s father? He didn’t look like he was from a prominent family, more like a farmer.
Lan Jiaojiao’s father, Lan Xinglong, didn’t get angry despite being scolded. He just looked at Lan Jiaojiao, "Jiaojiao, stop messing around, we’ve tried everything for your grandpa’s illness."
"Dad, please believe me. I trust the medical skills of the person I’ve brought," Lan Jiaojiao said.
"You believe him, but we don’t. What if something happens to Grandpa?" Lan Jiaojiao’s Third Sister said sharply.
Lan Jiaojiao’s expression turned slightly angry, "Are you concerned about Grandpa’s health, or more about the inheritance after his death?"
"Lan Jiaojiao, do you have no sense of propriety?"
"Yes, you’re talking nonsense just because Grandpa spoils you."
Lan Jiaojiao’s words led to a collective outburst against her.
Qin Yi felt a bit awkward. Should he help or not? Somehow, he too had become a target for attacks. He would have left long ago if not for his concern for the elderly gentleman’s health. Of course... it really wasn’t about the money.
Just as everyone was arguing heatedly, a tall, slender young man, dressed in white, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, and looking refined and handsome, descended from the second floor.
As soon as everyone saw this young man, they subconsciously stopped arguing and gathered around him.
"Tianji, how is the old man?"
Qin Yi asked Lan Jiaojiao quietly, "Who is this person?"
"He’s my grandpa’s closed-door disciple, Lan Tianji. Why?" Lan Jiaojiao asked curiously.
"Nothing, he’s quite handsome. Also, being your grandpa’s closed-door disciple, he has a bright future."
"Brother Tianji is an orphan. Grandpa found he had a great talent for medicine, so he came to our house when he was sixteen, and my grandpa even allowed him to take on the Lan surname."
Qin Yi nodded slightly. The reason he asked was that he found Lan Tianji’s aura very uncomfortable, if not repulsive.
Lan Tianji had a very pleasant, magnetic voice as he spoke indifferently, "Master wants Jiaojiao to go up."
After speaking, he ignored the others, looked at Lan Jiaojiao, and said gently, "Grandpa is waiting for you."
"Thank you, Brother Tianji," Lan Jiaojiao said softly.
Qin Yi’s gaze flickered slightly, thinking there was something going on between them.
