Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Abandoning the Vehicle and Fleeing
The Lan Family holds great influence, so their residence cannot be modest; truly wealthy people live in mansions.
The Lan Family mansion is located at Moon Bay, east of Yinfeng City. The Lan Family even built a special road for easy access.
The fiery red supercar was like a burning fire cloud, and Lan Jiaojiao had excellent driving skills.
However, suddenly a black SUV approached head-on, Lan Jiaojiao didn’t pay much attention. Although the road was built by the Lan Family, it wasn’t restricted only to their cars.
But just as the vehicles were about ten meters apart, the opposing SUV turned on its high beams. For a brief moment, Lan Jiaojiao was blinded and instinctively slammed on the brakes, turning the wheel to the right.
A car traveling at high speed does not stop easily; it veered off directly into the roadside drainage ditch, leaving two long black skid marks on the road.
Being no ordinary person, Lan Jiaojiao quickly sensed something was wrong. The black SUV had clearly done it on purpose.
She turned to look and saw the black SUV had stopped. A few people in black combat suits emerged from the vehicle, all wearing black masks to cover their faces, with guns in hand.
Lan Jiaojiao’s expression darkened, and she tried restarting the car, but the wheels were skidding in the ditch; the car couldn’t move.
Just then, two beams of light approached, and Lan Jiaojiao saw another black SUV speeding towards her.
Lan Jiaojiao’s eyes narrowed slightly; this was serious trouble—it was clearly an organized group.
The men originally approaching Lan Jiaojiao were distracted by the quickly arriving vehicle in the distance, and when they turned back, they found Lan Jiaojiao had already abandoned the car and fled.
One of them raised a gun and fired with a silenced shot, a swoosh, hitting near Lan Jiaojiao’s feet and kicking up a cloud of dust.
Lan Jiaojiao broke into a cold sweat of fear. Although she had practiced martial arts from a young age, she hadn’t developed Qi like Uncle Chen, so bullets still posed a lethal threat to her.
Suddenly, it was as if Lan Jiaojiao had eyes in the back of her head; she shifted a meter to the side abruptly. With a swoosh, the bullet struck where she’d just been.
Even though Lan Jiaojiao hadn’t cultivated Qi, she was agile. Clutching the box containing White Dragon Scale, she dashed wildly in a zigzag pattern. Several bullets struck near her feet or grazed past her, none hitting her.
The distant black SUV arrived, and more figures in black combat suits, masked in black, descended from it, merging with the other group.
Lan Jiaojiao was familiar with the area. She had fled the car because there was a forest up ahead. Beyond the forest were Moon Lake and Moon Mountain. As long as she reached Moon Mountain, she’d be safe.
"Chase!"
Realizing Lan Jiaojiao had escaped into the forest, a man in black spoke gravely.
The group pursued Lan Jiaojiao.
Meanwhile, Qin Yi was somewhat frustrated; the black SUV couldn’t catch up either.
"Sir, this isn’t my fault. I’ve done my best; you cannot short me on the money." The driver feared Qin Yi wouldn’t pay.
Qin Yi, while keeping an eye on the window, looking for any side roads, replied, "Keep going forward, your payment won’t be short."
Fortunately, there was only one road here.
Qin Yi grumbled internally, wondering why this woman had to drive so fast for no reason.
"Sir, the car you’re looking for is ahead," the driver suddenly called out.
Qin Yi had already seen it. The red supercar stuck in the ditch was indeed Lan Jiaojiao’s. The two black SUVs positioned nose to nose explained their confidence in tailing the supercar; someone had blocked her path ahead.
After paying, Qin Yi, with the driver’s help, got out and into a wheelchair. He assessed the situation in front of Lan Jiaojiao’s car, determining that the only place to hide was in that forest.
"Ah, you’re really something," Qin Yi complained, looking around. The taxi had already left. Then he steered the wheelchair, flying directly over the two-meter-wide ditch, making anyone who saw it think they were hallucinating.
Qin Yi manipulated the energy to propel his wheelchair towards the distant forest. The uneven terrain almost rattled him to pieces, but he finally reached the forest. The ground was marred with pits, fallen branches, and leaves, making it impassable by wheelchair.
Swearing, Qin Yi got out and hoisted the wheelchair onto his shoulder, figuring no one was watching anyway.
Elsewhere, Lan Jiaojiao had already made it out of the forest, reaching the edge of Moon Lake, named for its crescent shape.
The moonlit lake was calm, with the occasional splash of large fish breaking the surface in ripples.
Lan Jiaojiao often played here as a child and was a strong swimmer. She plunged into the water, holding the box containing the White Dragon Scale aloft as she swam towards the opposite shore; the White Dragon Scale must not get wet.
By the time the black-clad pursuers arrived, Lan Jiaojiao had already swum a hundred meters away, beyond shooting range.
With splash after splash, the black-clad figures dove in like dumplings.
Hearing the commotion, Lan Jiaojiao glanced back, panic flashing across her face. She hadn’t expected such relentless pursuit.
The swimmers weren’t as skilled as Lan Jiaojiao. By the time they reached the lake’s middle, she had already reached the shore.
A quick glance back, Lan Jiaojiao turned and ran towards Moon Mountain, but her steps faltered as she almost stumbled, a pained expression crossing her face. Despite her agility, a bullet had grazed her calf, and the wound stung fiercely from the water.
Still, she gritted her teeth and ran up the mountain; she knew there were several hidden caves where she could take refuge.
When Qin Yi reached the lake, both Lan Jiaojiao and the black-clad figures had vanished.
Checking the footprints along the shore, Qin Yi deduced they had all headed towards the opposite mountain.
"I just knew knowing this woman would be troublesome,"
Qin Yi muttered to himself, then sprang forward. White light swirled at his feet, allowing him to walk on the water as if on land, not even causing a ripple, with not a drop reaching his shoe soles.
With the wheelchair slung over his shoulder, Qin Yi traversed the lake’s surface, each step covering several meters, swift as a stream of light.
At the opposite shore, Qin Yi could only describe his appearance to himself with two words... "idiot."
On the mountain, Lan Jiaojiao had hid in a secluded cave. The cave was dark and without daylight. She clenched her teeth and tore a strip of fabric to bandage her wound. The sudden events left her phone in the car; she hoped to endure the night, assuming those pursuers would leave by morning.
Meanwhile, the men in black climbed the mountain but lost Lan Jiaojiao’s trail.
"Boss, she’s gone."
"She must be hiding; search!"
Several flashlights flared up; surprisingly, they had come prepared with them.
"Search separately."
A dozen people dispersed.
Soon, one of the men in black whispered, "Boss, there’s blood here."
The leading man walked over, saying gravely, "The woman is injured; she can’t have gone far. Look for places nearby where she could be hiding."
Having bandaged her wound, Lan Jiaojiao leaned against the cave wall, relaxing slightly. The escape, along with her injury, left her exhausted.
Suddenly, a bright light flashed past the cave entrance, and Lan Jiaojiao’s body tensed instantly.
"Boss, there’s a cave here."
Hearing the voices outside, Lan Jiaojiao’s face turned pale. Have they found her?
