Chapter 26: Chapter 26 Visiting the Dong Family
Dong Zhiping was about to push Qin Yi into the villa when a chubby man in his forties happened to walk out.
"Young man, you must be Qin Yi?" The chubby man smiled at Qin Yi, his eyes squinting in amusement.
Dong Zhiping quickly said, "Qin Yi, this is my dad."
"Uh..." Qin Yi was momentarily stunned. He had thought this person was a housekeeper or something, but it turned out to be Dong Zhiping’s father.
Dong Zhiping’s father, Dong Huaiyu, wasn’t tall, about 1.65 meters, white and chubby, with jet-black hair and smooth skin. Dong Zhiping was thirty years old, so his father must be at least in his fifties, but you couldn’t tell at all.
"Hello, Uncle, I’m Qin Yi!" Qin Yi quickly greeted him.
"Good kid, looks as handsome as I imagined." Dong Huaiyu’s voice was loud and clear, and his smile was full of vigor, not showing any sign of age.
"Imagined?" Qin Yi was a bit baffled.
Dong Huaiyu laughed and said, "They say appearances reflect the heart. I’ve heard that rascal Zhiping talk about you. Kind-hearted people look good, just like this old man."
Qin Yi looked odd, wondering if he was complimenting him or himself.
"Don’t just stand there at the door, come on in!" Dong Huaiyu stepped aside.
Dong Zhiping looked at Qin Yi, then glanced at his father, and secretly pointed at his own head.
Qin Yi was confused. Was Dong Zhiping implying his dad had some issues in the head?
Just then, Dong Huaiyu, who was walking in front, suddenly turned around. Dong Zhiping’s hand was still pointing at his own head, causing an awkward pause with a forced smile on his face.
Dong Huaiyu walked back briskly, jumped up, and gave Dong Zhiping a smack on the head, scolding, "Rascal, always badmouthing your old man, are you turning the sky upside down?"
Dong Zhiping covered the back of his head with a dry laugh.
Qin Yi held back his laughter, as Dong Zhiping was about 1.8 meters tall while Dong Huaiyu about 1.6 meters tall. The act of jumping up to hit someone was too comical. Qin Yi thought of a saying from the internet: "Do you believe I can jump up and hit your knee?"
"Qin Yi, don’t mind this. This brat has something wrong with his head," Dong Huaiyu said with a cheerful smile.
Qin Yi shook his head. It was evident that the way this father and son interacted was quite amusing, and they must have a great relationship! He noticed Yan Yutong had a gentle smile, which showed she was used to this kind of situation.
"Grandpa, you can’t hit Daddy’s head. Daddy will become stupid," Little Rui said in a cute voice.
"Alright, alright, Grandpa won’t hit anymore. Grandpa was wrong!" Dong Huaiyu quickly apologized.
"Little Rui is the best," Dong Zhiping muttered.
Dong Huaiyu glared and said, "If having kids isn’t for a bit of playful hitting, it would be meaningless."
"..." Qin Yi was speechless, what an excuse.
Dong Zhiping muttered, "What if I hit Little Rui, would you be okay with that?"
"Just you try, you touch a hair on Little Rui, I’ll strip you into a bald monk," Dong Huaiyu glared.
"That’s just unfair reasoning."
"What’s reasoning? I’m your dad, what I say is reasoning."
Yan Yutong smiled softly, "Dad, let’s go inside and talk."
Dong Huaiyu glanced at Qin Yi and said apologetically, "Sorry for letting you see such a laughable scene, but if this brat doesn’t get a good smack in a day, he’ll go tearing the roof off."
Qin Yi smiled politely.
"Qin Yi, come to my study, I’ll brew some tea for you," Dong Huaiyu said with excitement.
"Oh, get lost, couldn’t recognize two characters and still has a study? The tea you brew is worse than dishwater, who would want to drink that?"
Qin Yi looked over at the sound, seeing a shapely woman in a cheongsam with a kind face coming down from the second floor.
"Qin Yi, this is my mom," Dong Zhiping introduced.
Qin Yi was slightly taken aback. Dong Zhiping’s parents were well-maintained, and his mother had a nice temperament, not adorned with gold or silver, offering a comfortable impression. Indeed, people are different; his mother-in-law wished she could dye her nails gold, fearing others wouldn’t know she was rich.
"Hello, Auntie!" Qin Yi greeted politely.
"Good child, thank you for saving Little Rui, Auntie thanks you here!" Dong Zhiping’s mother actually bowed to Qin Yi.
Qin Yi hurriedly said, "Auntie, I can’t accept this."
"You can. Saving Little Rui means saving our Dong Family. Auntie must also remind you, if that old fool offers you tea, don’t drink it, for only our dog drinks it without getting diarrhea."
Qin Yi couldn’t hold back anymore and burst out laughing.
Dong Huaiyu stood on the side, ashamed and embarrassed, whispering, "Wife, can you save me some face in front of Qin Yi?"
"By the way, Uncle, not knowing what you like, I brought you some tea," Qin Yi handed over two boxes of tea leaves.
Dong Huaiyu’s eyes lit up, and upon seeing it, he laughed heartily, "Good kid, this tea hits me right in the heart. Lushan’s Cloud Mist Tea, great, great stuff, I like it."
"Glad you like it, Uncle!" Qin Yi said with a smile.
"This kid, why bring gifts when you come?" Dong Zhiping’s mother reproached, "Isn’t giving such good tea to him just a waste?"
But Dong Huaiyu didn’t mind, holding the tea leaves and smiling silly.
Qin Yi found it difficult to associate these two as father and son; their height and looks were too different. Dong Zhiping apparently took after his mother.
"Stop grinning foolishly, where’s the gift you prepared for Qin Yi?" Dong Zhiping’s mother asked.
"Almost forgot." Dong Huaiyu motioned for the servant to take the tea to his study, then took out a check and handed it to Qin Yi, saying, "You’ve done so much for our family, and we don’t know how to thank you, please don’t refuse this small token."
Qin Yi glanced down, my goodness, thirty million.
But Qin Yi shook his head, "Uncle, I can’t accept this money, just now you said I have a connection with Little Rui, and I really like her, saving her was the right thing to do, you should keep the money."
"How can that be? One thing has nothing to do with the other, you must accept it." Dong Huaiyu insisted on handing the check to Qin Yi.
Qin Yi’s expression turned slightly serious, "I didn’t save Little Rui for money. If you insist on giving me money, then I’ll take it, but I won’t come here in the future."
This...
Everyone was stunned.
Yan Yutong lightly smiled, "In that case, let’s not put Qin Yi in a tough spot. How about this, we’ll leave the money with Zhiping, and if Qin Yi needs it one day, he can take it anytime. How does that sound, Qin Yi?"
Qin Yi looked at Yan Yutong in surprise, this woman was smart and handled matters tactfully. He nodded slightly, "Let’s go with what sister-in-law said."
"Alright, I’ll hold onto the money for now," Dong Zhiping put away the check.
But Dong Zhiping’s mother was not satisfied, glaring at Dong Huaiyu and complaining, "You only know how to use money, not everyone loves money. Luckily, I prepared in advance."
Dong Zhiping’s mother said this as she walked to a shelf of decorative items in the living room, opened a drawer, and took out a small purple velvet pouch.
