Live-in Son-in-law
Chapter 259: Clumsy Acting

Chapter 259: Chapter 259: Clumsy Acting

By the time Qin Yi arrived in Yinfeng City, it was already four in the morning. He parked his car at the airport and drove straight home.

By the time he got home, the sky had already started to lighten.

Going to his room now would definitely wake Xia Yanbing up. Qin Yi suddenly had a bright idea: why not make breakfast for Xia Yanbing and Qin Wan’er? They would be pleasantly surprised when they got up.

With that thought, Qin Yi headed to the kitchen, tied on an apron, and started busying himself.

However, Qin Yi’s cooking skills were really... not up to par. The fried eggs were downright disastrous—either burnt or broken into pieces, just like scrambled eggs.

This looked so easy when others did it, why was it harder than murder when he tried?

There were only about twenty eggs in the fridge, and all of them fell victim to Qin Yi’s terrible skills. Not a single one was edible.

Qin Yi smiled bitterly and gave up completely.

He initially wanted to surprise Xia Yanbing and Qin Wan’er—now, it seemed it would be fortunate if it didn’t turn into a fright.

Xia Yanbing and Qin Wan’er usually woke up around seven-thirty. Seeing the time was about right, Qin Yi decided to go out to buy breakfast instead.

Qin Yi didn’t expect the breakfast shop to be so busy, he had to wait in line for quite a while.

At home, Xia Yanbing and Qin Wan’er were already up.

"Sis-in-law, how about I make breakfast this morning?"

Xia Yanbing nodded, "Let’s have milk, bread, and fried eggs then."

"Okay, it’ll be ready soon."

Xia Yanbing was cleaning up the mess on the coffee table from last night’s TV watching with Qin Wan’er when she suddenly heard Qin Wan’er scream from the kitchen.

Xia Yanbing didn’t have time to think, she quickly ran over, "Wan’er, what happened?"

Qin Wan’er stared wide-eyed at the chaotic mess in the kitchen.

Xia Yanbing was also stunned.

"Sis-in-law, did a thief break into our house?"

Xia Yanbing thought for a moment, shook her head, and said, "What kind of thief would cook food, and with such terrible culinary skills?"

Qin Wan’er suddenly jumped up with joy.

"My brother is back."

"Your brother is back."

Both of them thought of the same thing and said it in unison.

They exchanged smiles, and Qin Wan’er wondered, "But where is my brother? Didn’t he go to his room?"

Xia Yanbing shook her head, "I didn’t see him. Maybe he was afraid of waking me up?"

As she spoke, Xia Yanbing suddenly laughed, "I bet he tried to make us breakfast but his skills were too poor. If I’m not mistaken, he must be out buying us breakfast now."

...

Qin Yi returned home, placed the breakfast on the table, and checked the time. Xia Yanbing and Qin Wan’er should have been up by now.

Could it be that they’ve gotten lazy since I’ve been gone?

Qin Yi went upstairs, only to find the bed nicely made and Xia Yanbing nowhere in sight.

Had they already left the house?

Feeling a bit dejected, Qin Yi went downstairs, intending to call Xia Yanbing on his phone. Then he inadvertently noticed a foot in a slipper sticking out from under the table.

Qin Yi was startled at first, then smirked slightly. He hadn’t expected Xia Yanbing to be so childish, it looked like she wanted to scare him.

Standing by the table, Qin Yi mumbled to himself, "These two women have no taste. Since they’ve left, I’ll just enjoy these delicious breakfasts by myself!"

Under the table, Xia Yanbing and Qin Wan’er held their mouths in laughter.

Qin Wan’er gestured outside, indicating whether or not they should reveal themselves now.

Qin Wan’er nodded slightly, then silently counted with her fingers. As she reached the third finger, the two of them crawled out from under the table, jumped up, and shouted "Boo" at Qin Yi, mimicking the motion of a tiger.

Qin Yi was visibly startled, his eyes rolled, and he fell straight backward.

Xia Yanbing and Qin Wan’er were shocked, not expecting to have scared Qin Yi into fainting.

"Brother..."

"Husband..."

Both of them rushed over in a panic, Xia Yanbing checked Qin Yi’s breath and said in a panic, "He’s still breathing, just passed out, hurry and call an ambulance..."

Qin Wan’er quickly picked up her phone to dial, but suddenly paused and pointed to the corner of Qin Yi’s mouth.

Xia Yanbing looked and immediately rolled her eyes, noticing Qin Yi’s mouth subtly twitching—clearly stifling laughter.

This brat, pretending to faint to scare them?

But both of them also understood, given Qin Yi’s capabilities, how could he faint so easily.

Xia Yanbing rolled her eyes, feigning panic, "Wan’er, have you called yet?"

"I forgot my phone password, can’t unlock it..." Qin Wan’er said with a whimper.

Qin Yi held back his laughter and felt smug, thinking, "Try scaring me, will you?"

However, in the next moment, he yelped in pain—someone was pinching his philtrum.

"Sis-in-law, pinching the philtrum won’t work, we learned that in class. The teacher says slapping is more effective to wake someone up."

Xia Yanbing said, "Let me try then..."

Gosh, slapping... Qin Wan’er, you really are my sister.

Qin Yi hurriedly opened his eyes, feigning a confused look, "Honey, Wan’er, what happened to me?"

Xia Yanbing and Qin Wan’er exchanged glances, this brat was quite the actor.

"Husband, you suddenly fainted, you scared Wan’er and me to death. You’re not fully awake yet, let me help you..." Xia Yanbing raised her hand.

Qin Yi quickly sat up and grabbed Xia Yanbing’s hand, "No need, I’m wide awake now. I remembered, you guys scared me into fainting just now."

Xia Yanbing and Qin Wan’er exchanged looks and couldn’t help but giggle.

Xia Yanbing bent down and kissed Qin Yi on the cheek, "Husband, your acting skills are really bad."

Qin Wan’er kissed the other side of Qin Yi’s face, laughing, "Brother, your acting really is awful!"

Qin Yi was momentarily stunned before realizing, "Oh, so you two knew I was faking all along? You pinched me on purpose, didn’t you?"

Xia Yanbing and Qin Wan’er laughed and ran away.

"Who told you to pretend to faint and scare us?"

Xia Yanbing said as she walked into the kitchen, grabbing bowls and chopsticks to serve the breakfast Qin Yi brought back.

"Husband, when did you come back?"

Qin Yi laughed, "I came back when it was already light outside, thinking you guys would be up soon..."

"And then you spontaneously decided to make us breakfast, but overestimated your cooking skills and ruined about twenty eggs?" Xia Yanbing continued with a teasing smile.

"And you turned the kitchen into a battlefield." Qin Wan’er chimed in.

Qin Yi laughed awkwardly.

Xia Yanbing smiled warmly, "Husband, let us take care of such things in the future, a gentleman stays away from the kitchen."

"Nonsense, at home, I’m just humble little Qin, you and Wan’er are in charge, only then comes me."

Qin Wan’er laughed, "Brother, you think sis-in-law is worried about you? She’s afraid you’ll burn down the kitchen one day."

Qin Yi rolled his eyes, "Even while eating, you can’t keep the insults to yourself. You’re really not holding back, huh?"

Qin Wan’er playfully stuck out her tongue and then laughed, "Brother, these buns you bought smell great!"

"Hmm, and this porridge is nice, too."

Qin Yi was speechless, "I say, you two could put a little more effort into flattering me."

The two women couldn’t help but giggle.

Qin Yi’s lips curled slightly, their days were back to normal. It seemed Xia Yanbing had moved on from the child’s incident.
