Chapter 234 The Compass is Broken

Chapter 234: Chapter 234 The Compass is Broken

Qin Yi found the satellite map on Li Zhuo.

"Where did you get the horse from?"

Qin Yi said, "It’s called Little Jujube. I rented it for a hundred thousand, and this horse knows the way back."

"A hundred thousand, for rent? Young Master Qin is really throwing money around now."

Qin Yi said grumpily, "Quit being sarcastic; it’s not like I had a choice. It’s all to find you. You’ll have to reimburse me for that hundred thousand when we get back."

"Dream on!" Lan Jiaojiao cautiously approached Little Jujube. "It won’t kick me, will it?"

"It won’t. Little Jujube has spiritual energy, unless it meets someone very annoying."

"That’s good then."

Just as Lan Jiaojiao finished speaking, Little Jujube kicked up its heels, almost hitting her.

Qin Yi burst into laughter.

Lan Jiaojiao glared at Qin Yi, "Didn’t you say it wouldn’t kick people?"

"It doesn’t! But I did say, unless it meets someone really annoying."

Lan Jiaojiao’s eyebrows arched, "You really deserve it."

With that, she trotted off to the hillside and returned with a handful of fresh wild grass, trying to bribe Little Jujube.

Unfortunately, Little Jujube didn’t even glance at it.

Lan Jiaojiao puffed out her cheeks in anger like a goldfish, "People really do get the horse they deserve."

Qin Yi stepped up and took the grass from her hand, and Little Jujube ate it gladly.

Lan Jiaojiao was indignant, "It must be a mare, enchanted by your looks."

"So you admit I’m handsome?"

"I mean your face is long. Little Jujube thinks you’re one of its kind."

Qin Yi: "..."

"Lan Jiaojiao, you really have a knack for it."

Lan Jiaojiao laughed, "Learned it from you."

Qin Yi, not wanting to argue, said, "Come on, get on the horse."

"It’ll kick me."

"Don’t worry, I’m holding it. It won’t kick you."

Lan Jiaojiao cautiously approached, Little Jujube became restless as it saw her come closer.

Qin Yi gently patted its neck, and Little Jujube instantly calmed down.

"It really is a mare," Lan Jiaojiao muttered.

Qin Yi pretended not to hear and helped Lan Jiaojiao onto the horse.

Lan Jiaojiao looked down at Qin Yi, "What about you?"

"Duh, there’s only one horse, but it has a double saddle. We can both ride it. I’m not walking, right?"

Lan Jiaojiao said, "Can this horse carry both of us?"

"You’re underestimating Little Jujube. You’re as skinny as a monkey, an extra one like you is nothing."

Lan Jiaojiao glared at him through gritted teeth.

"If we’re riding the same horse, wouldn’t that mean you’re holding me?"

Qin Yi was speechless, "You think I want to? How about you walk and I ride the horse instead?"

"Why should I walk and you ride? You’re a man, aren’t you? Show some chivalry."

Qin Yi sneered, "If you’re not afraid of Little Jujube throwing you off, then you ride it alone. I’ll be the gentleman, no problem."

Lan Jiaojiao gave a dry laugh, realizing she couldn’t handle it alone, and that Little Jujube seemed to dislike her.

"Fine, come on up! But if you try anything funny, don’t blame me for kicking you off the horse."

Qin Yi mounted the horse and said casually, "Don’t worry, I’m not interested in someone even a horse doesn’t like."

Lan Jiaojiao was itching with rage.

Seeing Lan Jiaojiao’s nervousness, Qin Yi found it amusing, "Rest assured, I value our friendship and won’t take advantage of you."

"It’s my first time riding a horse, can’t I be a little nervous?"

Qin Yi chuckled, "So, it’s your first time! Relax, don’t grip too tightly with your legs, or it’ll chafe painfully."

Lan Jiaojiao paused, then blushed with anger and embarrassment.

Bam!

Lan Jiaojiao’s elbow almost knocked Qin Yi off the horse.

Unprepared, Qin Yi felt a sharp pain in his ribs and angrily said, "What are you doing?"

"Serves you right. Didn’t I warn you about making cheeky remarks?"

"I..." Qin Yi stopped, realizing his words might have been misunderstood, and smiled wryly. "I meant don’t grip your legs too tight. My first time riding was like that, and I almost got blisters on my inner thighs."

Oh, that’s what he meant? Lan Jiaojiao blushed, thinking he deserved it for not being clear, mistakenly assuming he was making an innuendo.

She then said, "Alright, let’s go. I don’t want to stay in this godforsaken place any longer."

"Where are we headed? Look at the map," Qin Yi said irritably.

Lan Jiaojiao mumbled, glanced at the map, and checked the compass before pointing randomly, "That way."

Qin Yi nudged the horse, and Little Jujube began trotting in the direction Lan Jiaojiao pointed.

Four hours later, the silver moon hung like a plate, the stars filled the sky.

Qin Yi glared at Lan Jiaojiao, "Are you sure this lousy map is any good? We’ve passed this spot three times already."

Lan Jiaojiao awkwardly smiled, looked at the map closely, then checked the compass again.

Soon, she froze, embarrassed, "It’s not the map’s fault. It seems the compass is broken."

Qin Yi: "..."

What’s the difference between a poor map and a broken compass? At night, without a compass, that lousy map is too rough even for toilet paper.

Qin Yi dismounted, "Alright, let’s rest here for the night. Little Jujube is exhausted too. We’ll set off again in the morning."

Lan Jiaojiao had no objections, nor dared to. It was all her fault they were in this position. If only she listened to Qin Yi and let Little Jujube lead the way.

Qin Yi led Little Jujube to a water source, let it drink to its fill, then released it to graze, protected by the Blood Flood Dragon.

Qin Yi gathered some dry branches, "Let’s go."

"Go where?"

"To the top of the mountain."

Lan Jiaojiao was puzzled, "Why go to the top of the mountain?"

"The mountain top is safe. There are lots of wild beasts around here, but they can’t reach the top. We can get a good sleep."

"Oh!"

The two climbed to the mountain top, setting up a fire.

Lan Jiaojiao sprawled on the dry rock, using her backpack as a pillow, gazing at the starry sky.

"They say people turn into stars after they die to watch over us. Which one do you think Grandpa might be?"

Qin Yi tossed some twigs into the fire and casually pointed, "That one there is Old Man Lan."

"Which one?"

"The round one, looking like a naan."

Lan Jiaojiao seriously looked for a while, then rolled her eyes at Qin Yi, as he had pointed to the moon.

Qin Yi chuckled, "The saying about people turning into stars after they die is just a way for the living to cope with their feelings for the deceased. Since it’s a form of attachment, why not choose the biggest and brightest one? Out of billions of stars, the ones you see today might not be the same as those you see tomorrow. So might as well say it’s the moon, because the moon is only one."

Lan Jiaojiao nodded slightly, finding some sense in Qin Yi’s words.

"Look again, how round the moon is tonight. Old Man Lan’s face is as round as a naan, just like tonight’s moon..."

Lan Jiaojiao glared at Qin Yi, "If you keep spouting nonsense, I’ll roast you over the fire and eat you, I’m hungry."
