Chapter 145: Chapter 145: Seeing a Ghost

Xia Yanbing slipped the card into Qin Yi’s hand, reminding him to remember to give it to Lan Jiaojiao, and then strutted out, swaying those long legs and a pert backside.

Qin Yi was left holding the card, staring blankly.

"Honey, you’re so good to me; when do you plan to shower me with affection?"

Qin Yi asked softly, coming back to his senses.

He didn’t dare to ask this directly, or else Xia Yanbing would surely slap him with a bloody sanitary pad.

"Today’s earnings are a million!"

Qin Yi muttered happily, feeling his recent fortunes flourishing, with money coming in daily.

As for giving it to Lan Jiaojiao, that wasn’t going to happen. Let that woman enjoy her yo-yo games.

At night, Qin Yi didn’t have to sleep in the guest room. Lin Hongzhuang, that woman, had hogged his wife for a long time, but now she had finally taken the hint and scrammed.

Of course, Qin Yi still couldn’t sleep on the bed; he could only use his wheelchair or a single bed.

However, just being able to breathe in Xia Yanbing’s scent made him very content.

On reflection, he realized he was quite pathetic.

But if not for love, who would be willing to be a sycophant?

As for the Blood Flood Dragon, it had been kicked outside by Qin Yi to stand guard. Even though it was just a creature, it shouldn’t be spying on his wife’s sleeping form.

However, just past midnight, a hysterical scream suddenly echoed from downstairs.

Qin Yi was startled awake, even though he was in the middle of cultivation.

Xia Yanbing sat up abruptly, turned on the bedside lamp, and jumped out of bed, running barefoot towards the noise.

Because she had already recognized the scream as coming from Dong Jinsu.

Qin Yi frowned, wondering why the old woman was screaming like a banshee in the middle of the night?

He went out to find the Blood Flood Dragon standing orderly outside the door. Seeing Qin Yi come out, it followed closely behind.

When Qin Yi reached the living room, he saw Dong Jinsu sprawled on the floor, her hair a mess, her face as pale as paper, and her whole body shaking as if she had seen a ghost.

What was going on?

Qin Yi was a bit dazed.

Xia Yanbing rushed over, her face full of concern, "Mom, are you okay? What happened?"

Xia Yujiang, also alarmed, came running out.

Seeing Dong Jinsu in such a state, he looked utterly bewildered.

It took a lot of effort for Xia Yujiang and Xia Yanbing to help the hefty woman up, and the floor was left in a wet patch, with the air carrying a sour and unpleasant odor... What did the old woman see? Scared her so much she peed herself.

"Mom, are you okay? What exactly happened?"

Dong Jinsu, with a vacant look in her eyes, clutched Xia Yanbing’s arm tightly, her whole body continuously trembling, "Xiaobing, there’s a ghost, there’s a ghost in our house. I saw it, I saw it with my own eyes."

A ghost?

In the middle of the night, with the living room lights not fully on, just a few corner lights glowing dimly.

At the mention of a ghost from Dong Jinsu, both Xia Yujiang and Xia Yanbing shivered uncomfortably, quickly glancing all around.

Xia Yujiang looked around sneakily, mumbling, "Why are you freaking out in the middle of the night? In this modern age, do you still believe in such things? Is there any ghost in this world?"

Dong Jinsu trembled as she spoke, "Really, I really saw it."

Xia Yanbing’s nerves were also slightly on edge, "Mom, maybe you were seeing things?"

Dong Jinsu’s teeth were chattering, "Xiaobing, I really saw it. I came down for water and saw the apples on the table floating up one after another, and then they just vanished."

Xia Yanbing and Xia Yujiang hurriedly looked towards the coffee table. A plate of fruits was sitting there, but the apples were gone.

Dong Jinsu exclaimed in panic, "I even heard the crunching sound of someone eating, scared me to death, there’s truly a ghost in our house."

Xia Yanbing skeptically asked, "Could it be that Aunt Wang put them away?"

Aunt Wang was now the only servant in the Xia Family.

"Xiaobing, I really saw it!"

Xia Yujiang and Xia Yanbing exchanged glances, their hairs standing on end.

Judging by Dong Jinsu’s appearance, she didn’t look like she was faking it; she had even wet herself from fright.

Qin Yi’s eyes flickered subtly, subconsciously looking at the Blood Flood Dragon behind him, his lips moving to form a sound without speaking, "Was it you?"

The Blood Flood Dragon, slightly panicked, responded, "Master, I didn’t mean to do it. I was just so hungry, I really didn’t mean to scare anyone."

Qin Yi was left speechless. Of course, it was this guy.

But seeing Dong Jinsu in such a state, Qin Yi was somewhat pleased that the foul-mouthed old woman got a good scare.

Seeing Qin Yi staying silent, the Blood Flood Dragon said anxiously, "Master, I was wrong! I truly didn’t mean to do it."

"Shut up, and don’t let it happen again."

In this case, it was partially his fault too; he had forgotten that the Blood Flood Dragon needs to eat. It was originally a bloodthirsty carnivore, but had been forced to the point of stealing apples to sate its hunger, showing just how starved it was.

Qin Yi looked towards Xia Yanbing and whispered, "Could it be that waking up in the night blurred your perception? I remembered there were only these few apples in the fruit basket."

"Really?"

Qin Yi nodded, "When I went upstairs, there were just these few apples in the fruit basket."

Xia Yanbing still trusted Qin Yi, saying, "Mom, you must have been half-asleep. There’s no such thing as a ghost in this world."

"Xiaobing, I really saw it."

"Mom, stop talking, go take a bath, change your clothes, sleep it off, and you’ll feel better tomorrow. Stop overthinking."

Xia Yujiang and Xia Yanbing helped the trembling Dong Jinsu back to her room.

"Qin Yi, wait for me here."

As she left, Xia Yanbing looked back and said.

Qin Yi’s heart skipped a beat. Could Xia Yanbing be suspecting him? Otherwise, why would she ask him to wait?

Xia Yanbing returned shortly after leaving Dong Jinsu in her room and didn’t say much; instead, she went to get a mop.

Qin Yi realized at once that Xia Yanbing intended to clean up Dong Jinsu’s mess. She wanted him to stay because she was afraid.

"Why are you smiling?"

Xia Yanbing asked when she inadvertently looked up and saw the smile on Qin Yi’s lips.

Qin Yi was slightly taken aback, saying, "Do you really believe in ghosts?"

Xia Yanbing looked a bit uneasy, whispering, "When I went upstairs for the night, there were definitely more apples in the fruit bowl than just those few."

Qin Yi paused for a moment, sheepishly saying, "Actually, I ate them."

But then Xia Yanbing said, "Impossible, I’m a light sleeper. If you went out, I would definitely know."

"I know you’re trying to comfort me, but there’s something strange about this."

Qin Yi had said so much intending to reassure Xia Yanbing, but unexpectedly, he couldn’t deceive her.

"Maybe it was Aunt Wang who got hungry and ate them?"

Xia Yanbing nodded, "Possible."

After cleaning the mess off the floor, Xia Yanbing rinsed the mop and put it away, then started upstairs, stopping at the top to tell Qin Yi, "You go turn off the lights; I’ll wait for you here."

Qin Yi’s lips curled into a pleasant smile; he hadn’t expected Xia Yanbing to be afraid of ghosts.

Yet, this version of Xia Yanbing, who displayed more common human emotions, felt rather adorable.

Qin Yi went over to switch off the lights and went upstairs.

Once they were in the room, Xia Yanbing immediately locked the door behind them and quickly got into bed, hiding under the covers.

Qin Yi almost burst out laughing.
