Chapter 1142: Chapter 1142: So the Person You’ve Always Liked Is Enna Clark? Chapter 1142: Chapter 1142: So the Person You’ve Always Liked Is Enna Clark? Just then, the waiter came over with a freshly brewed Blue Mountain coffee, steaming as it was carefully carried. He said, “Excuse me for interrupting, your coffee is ready.”
Emilia Goldsmith’s attention was solely fixed on the fact that Lyle Westbrook hadn’t answered her question. She hadn’t noticed the waiter beside her and, in her agitated state, she demanded, “So, the person you like is Enna Clark? The person you said you liked when you rejected me at the hospital was also her?!”
Hospital, rejection?
The waiter’s ears perked up at the gossip, and his hand shook accidentally, spilling the scalding coffee, which poured onto his hand, making him gasp in pain. He uttered an “Ah” as he reflexively tossed the coffee cup away.
Crash!
The coffee cup shattered upon impact, with the boiling coffee splattering everywhere.
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry!” Realizing her mistake, the waitress’s face turned pale as she continuously apologized to Emilia Goldsmith.
“Sorry, it was my mistake, I’ll clean this up right away and brew another cup for you,” the waitress said, bowing as if she were pecking at grains of rice.
As she fumbled, unsure of what to do, she suddenly heard a detached voice from across, “Wash your hands first.”
The waitress looked up.
In front of her was a glass of untouched lemon water being pushed towards her. She was stunned for a moment before her eyes met the man’s peach blossom eyes.
Her cheeks flushed red as she stammered, “Th-thank you.”
Emilia Goldsmith, seeing the waitress’s expression, knew she had read too much into the attention and felt a wave of helplessness.
Had she not fallen into the same trap in the past? She had mistaken this man’s cultured concern as a special sign of interest, only to find herself falling deeper before realizing that his act of care that had once moved her heart was just a subconscious, emotionless reaction born from his upbringing.
“Clean this up and brew me another coffee,” Emilia Goldsmith paused, then added, “I don’t want Blue Mountain anymore, make it a cappuccino with sugar.”
Coming back to her senses, the waitress quickly replied, “Right away, I’ll go make it now.”
She walked away quickly with flushed cheeks, carrying the glass of lemon water.
Soon enough, a male waiter came and cleaned up the spilled coffee, pouring a fresh lemon water for the indifferent man.
The indifferent man didn’t touch the water glass but instead turned to Emilia Goldsmith, “I can’t answer that question.”
“Why can’t you answer? Don’t you know whether you like her or not? Or do you think if I knew you liked her, I’d do her harm?” Emilia Goldsmith clenched her lower lip and said bluntly, “I might develop hard feelings towards her because you like her, but I, Emilia Goldsmith, am not so low as to scheme against someone you care about behind their back.”
“But didn’t you know she’s about to get married? Baron Lawrence has already announced the engagement, it’s just that the wedding was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.”
Peach blossom eyes remaining calm, the man being questioned replied, “I know.”
“If you know, then why would you…” Emilia Goldsmith stopped abruptly. She couldn’t bring herself to finish the sentence; saying the rest would sound too much like jealousy. She had already lost so thoroughly before him and didn’t want to lose the last bit of her self-respect!
