Chapter 96: Chapter 87: Solved Three Cases in One Day, Reputation Begins to Show (Added 2 more for the alliance leader ’Ao Ao Ao Ya Ya Ya’)
At a distance,
an old black man with a disheveled beard, dressed in gardener’s attire, sat cautiously on the threshold leading to the backyard, not daring to move.
Hearing someone enter,
the woman inside looked toward the door, then anger flashed across her face, "This is a crime scene, who are you, how can you just walk in, those patrol officers..."
Smack~
Before the woman could finish,
Susan delivered a hefty slap, sending the rest of her words right back into her mouth.
Seeing his companion hit,
the man set down the dagger he was holding and frowned at Susan, "Susan, you still have such a fiery temper."
"This is our case, get lost!"
The two clearly knew each other, but Susan couldn’t be bothered with the man, placing her hand on the gun handle instead.
This attitude, which didn’t allow for any communication or negotiation, left the man somewhat speechless, feeling like a "Scholar" facing soldiers where reason goes unheeded.
He took a deep breath, "Can you at least be reasonable?"
Brian had already finished examining the scene and interjected, "You guys barge in on our team’s case without a word, then say our team leader isn’t reasonable, buddy, where did you learn your double standards? I’d like to go study there too, see if I can get a ’Bullet-Proof Vest’ for my face."
Susan wasn’t foolish, resorting to fists when words failed was just a habit she developed because she’d never lost a fight in her youth but had never won an argument.
Seeing Brian speak up in her defense,
she immediately retorted, "Brian, what do you mean by wearing a ’Bullet-Proof Vest’ on your face?"
Brian shrugged, pointing to his own face, "Thick-skinned, shameless, leader, stay away from this kind of person in the future, because they excel at standing on a moral high ground, coercing everyone who disagrees with them."
"Exactly!", Susan vigorously nodded as if seeing an ally, "I’ve always disliked this idiot, even felt guilty before for thinking I was discriminating against trash. Now I see, what I despise is his despicable and sneaky character."
The man was fuming from Brian and Susan’s back and forth!
He clenched his fists but dared not strike.
After all, this group of people had truly been intimidated by Susan, the violent woman, since they were young.
Whenever she fought,
this crazy woman didn’t care who you were or about saving face; she’d make it as embarrassing as possible.
Just as he felt unable to face the situation,
the woman, whom Susan had slapped to the point of near suffocation, angrily stood in front of her team leader:
"Our team leader came to help out of the goodness of his heart because the victim was his friend. Instead of being grateful, you two insulted him with your ill-mannered words. You think you’re better? Solve the case, then talk!"
Smack~
Brian withdrew his hand, making the sign of the cross over his chest, repenting, "Sorry, I have sinned, my Lord. I generally don’t hit women, if I do, it must be God’s will that I can’t refuse..."
The man beside him thought:
Why does this pretty boy seem even more shameless than himself?
He took a deep breath, ignoring Susan, and extended his hand to Brian:
"I am Howard, the leader of Team A3.
It’s like this, the victim was my friend, she owned a cosmetics company and had been abroad for a while, only recently returning to Los Angeles for a vacation.
Usually, only her family’s gardener looks after the villa.
This morning, the gardener found my friend dead in the living room and called the police."
Brian didn’t extend his hand, first whispered something to Susan, waited for her to leave, then turned to Howard, "Any findings?"
Howard thought himself a deeply calculated man.
He gracefully withdrew his hand, maintaining his composure:
"The cause of death, seems to be a stab wound through the heart from behind. All the cameras are set up outside, only verifying that the gardener was in his room when my friend was murdered, so he’s not a serious suspect, besides..."
Brian interrupted Howard, "You saw the gardener staying outside on the surveillance?"
"No, he was resting in his room, no cameras in the rooms."
"Then why do you think he’s not a suspect?"
Howard was stretched to his limit by Brian’s nitpicking.
He maintained his composure, albeit with a grim expression,
"I had someone check the gardener’s background.
Thirty years ago, he accidentally killed my friend’s mother during a robbery, and was only released last year. Throughout that time, he continuously wrote letters of repentance to my friend.
Feeling sorry for his age and criminal record, and moved by his many years of repentance, she let him take the gardener position at the villa and manage the cleaning staff arranged by the property to prevent anyone from damaging things.
In this case, why would he have any reason to kill my friend?
Plus, the surveillance can prove that he..."
"Hiring a man who killed his mother to be a housekeeper and gardener, no wonder your friend’s death isn’t surprising. Now, I understand why she befriended you; because she was blind!", Brian said, as if struck by a revelation.
Howard could no longer maintain his facade.
He pointed at Brian’s nose and cursed, "F**k, what are you, insulting me is one thing, but to insult a dead person, do you have any humanity?"
Brian, not indulging him, kicked him away, then circled the corpse on the ground,
"The villa has a full security system.
The only blind spot is inside the villa.
Some residents, for privacy reasons, won’t install cameras inside; at least, I didn’t see any here.
