Chapter 389: Chapter 237: Ambush, Clothes Bursting, One Punch One Kid_2
Exaggerated much!
In the land of water cattails, densely swirling, the buzzing of flapping wings filled the ears, stirring frustration and restlessness in anyone who heard it.
This water also emitted a stench mixed with mud and decay.
Aside from researchers, few people visited this area to suffer.
As the sky gradually darkened, the three finally arrived at the coordinates Benjamin had provided.
This place was a relatively open water body without any land in sight, not even the soft, squishy marshland.
This meant, at this location, their only landing place was the boat beneath their feet.
Benjamin really picked a fine spot.
Brian promptly had Linda stand behind him instead of hiding in the cabin.
He turned on all his senses and scanned the surroundings from the boat’s roof.
Anomalies caught his eye.
At the convergence of water grasses, influenced by the waves, the shore was clogged with what appeared to be short "wood."
But these weren’t real pieces of wood, they were the flat, dried bodies of alligators.
From their condition, they looked like their blood had been drained, but not in a way that emptied flesh and muscle.
Brian looked down, turned to Tagg who was watching the water, and asked, "Tagg, do you know of any Mutant Beasts obsessed with the blood of creatures?"
Tagg shook his head,
"It’s rare, wild beasts hardly ever mutate unless human-induced.
For example, by constantly selecting the best among them.
The NW organization possesses such technology.
They even breed and domesticate some beasts for people to trade.
Only creatures smart enough normally feel the effects of the Blood Moon.
Like bats.
Some bat leaders could undergo Mutation.
Oh, and some sea creatures.
Like the Deep Sea Octopus I mentioned before.
These guys are incredibly smart, their mutation rate also outrageously high, mankind’s greatest enemy in the ocean.
These two, I know, have a fondness for bodily fluids of creatures.
I’ve heard in Europe, some Mutants’ Mutant Abilities are influenced by folklore, making their bodies resemble those mythic creatures.
Amongst them, Vampires also have such preferences."
Hearing this, Brian nodded.
Apart from the Deep Sea Octopus, which he hadn’t encountered, he roughly knew about the rest.
As the two spoke,
The distant water rippled, and a bright, python-patterned bald head slowly emerged.
It flicked its long, thin tongue, looking towards the distant boat with a hideous smile.
The prey had arrived!
Brian, sensing something, suddenly looked towards the distance.
Within his sharp vision, a ripple disturbed the water’s surface, yet nothing unusual was visible.
Tagg glanced briefly in that direction but couldn’t make out anything, only turning to ask Brian, "What’s up?"
"Nothing, probably just a fish coming up to breathe for the evening," Brian withdrew his gaze.
Tagg nodded, "There are lots of mosquitoes here, so the fish grow quite large, but their flesh has an earthy bloody taste that everyone dislikes."
Brian nodded, pulled out his phone, and tried redialing Benjamin’s last call.
The call wouldn’t go through.
Brian put away the phone and focused his gaze aloft.
The sky was growing dark.
Once the last gleam vanished from the horizon, this place would become a Hunter’s paradise.
Tagg also realized Benjamin’s plan, "Looks like that guy wants to show up later and is probably hiding somewhere observing us right now."
Brian sighed, "But I want to head back to Los Angeles sooner. If he won’t show himself, I’ll just have to force him."
"Force?"
Tagg was puzzled, "We don’t even know his position, how can we force him?"
Brian didn’t respond.
He stood by the ship’s edge, twisted his neck left and right producing a crisp cracking sound, grabbed a metal pipe, and forcefully snapped it, then twisted the hollow pipe into a solid twirl.
Listening to the screeching metal, Tagg swallowed hard.
Oh God!
Was this guy that strong?
He tried to imitate Brian’s action but only managed to bend the old pipe, utterly unable to break it.
Seeing this, Brian chuckled, "It requires some knack and strength technique."
Saying so, his sleeves burst open, his right arm muscles swelled like a fierce python; his muscles taut like steel cables, expanded to the thickness of a normal person’s thigh, and with a burst of power, he did it all in one go.
The next moment,
Brian’s "threaded steel pipe" tore through the air with a piercing burst, instantly vanishing from everyone’s sight.
After just over a second,
Boom~
The water trembled.
Then a scream followed, and calm water by now riddled from a distance with ripples.
The spear hit the mark!
Tagg eyed the darkness far away, his look towards Brian filled with intrigue.
Did this guy also have visual enhancements?
Linda, on the other hand, was both afraid and astonished as she stared at Brian’s exaggerated right arm, filled with wild, fearful thoughts that she might end up the same.
Brian, as if aware of Tagg’s thoughts, explained without looking back, "I was lucky, no mosquitoes were swirling around there, so I took a shot."
Tagg squinted towards that area and begrudgingly accepted the explanation.
Whoosh~
The piercing air sound exploded again.
Another hand-crafted threaded javelin vanished before their eyes.
The same scenario replayed.
Another scream came from afar.
Brian grabbed a third section of the steel pipe, twisting it while giving Tagg a shy smile, "It’s the luck. I’ve just been lucky."
