Chapter 33: Chapter 26: Adrenaline Berserker, Interrogation (Thanks to the Dual Alliance Leader Fishing Master 80 for the reward!)
"Friends who often commit murder know this."
"Murder is easy, disposal is hard."
"Making someone completely disappear from the world is not easy."
"But this is only true for ordinary people."
"Brian, in an instant, thought of many practical methods: dumping in concrete into the sea, chemical corrosion burial, digging a grave, grinding into fish feed, pet cremation, private crematorium, dog breeding, pig farm disposal..."
"These methods tend to have fewer complications."
"However, none were suitable for Brian’s current situation."
"He now felt somewhat weak, and after unlocking the handcuffs, he even found that he had overexerted himself, causing some muscle strains in his limbs."
"This was a side effect of inadvertently triggering the ’Fury’ talent."
"Brian once read a true report."
"In 1982, in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Mrs. Angela Cavaleiro, in a bid to save her son pinned under a truck, had an adrenaline surge and shockingly lifted up a 1964 Chevrolet Impala pickup truck.."
"There are many such examples."
"The human body is a miraculous structure."
"Humanity simply lacks some switches to unlock these marvels."
"The Fury Talent is such a key."
"It can stimulate a huge secretion of adrenaline akin to stimulants in the body when Brian is emotionally aroused, unlocking the body’s self-protection limits to the fullest extent, and unleashing the muscle fiber strength of the body."
"The most miraculous part..."
"Is that this passive talent controls the secretion of adrenaline within the body’s tolerance levels."
"And crucially, he could also receive a ’Gift’ from the corpse, using the Gift to enhance his body and repair the hidden damage caused by the continuous bursts of adrenaline."
"This means..."
"Brian would henceforth become an atypical Adrenaline Berserker, able to explode with power and speed far beyond normal limits in a crisis, gaining the ability to resolve the crisis, and afterward, he would at most feel physically drained."
"That’s pretty awesome!"
"Too bad, that detective didn’t yield any new ’obsessions.’"
"Otherwise, it would have been even more awesome!"
"..."
"There were no suitable tools."
"Plus his body was still weak."
"Under these circumstances, was there a simple, convenient, yet safe method for disposing of a corpse?"
"Yes."
"Use nature!"
"The biggest difficulty in disposing of a body..."
"Lies in the exposure of the corpse."
"In the United States, very few people have their genetic information in a DNA database."
"So as long as you can prevent people from finding a complete body, or if they do, they can’t determine the dead person’s identity, that would suffice."
"The suburban environment provided such convenience."
"After Brian regained some strength, he endured the emptiness in his body, threw the detective’s corpse into the trunk of his car, hastily dealt with the crime scene, and then drove off directly."
"He wasn’t worried that the detective had informed anyone else before proceeding with his action."
"If that were the case, it wouldn’t have been just one person who came."
"He also didn’t want to delve into why the other party had come to find him privately."
"Dead men tell no tales."
"None of that mattered."
"What Brian needed to do was to handle the body and then head back to sleep as soon as possible."
"He still had to go to work tomorrow!"
"..."
"Some distance from the graveyard."
"Brian left the main road and took an off-road path with no trail, driving straight into it until there were no signs of human activity around; only then did he get out of the car, strip off any insignificant items from the body, and set them on fire."
"After the flame turned to ash and was covered up with clumps of weeds."
"Brian took the stripped body from the car, bound it with the rope-tying technique he learned in his previous life, securing it to the hole in the rear of the car where the tow hook was mounted, and then began off-roading."
"The area he chose..."
"Was a sand and wind zone."
"The body began to disintegrate with the rapid friction, blood and flesh merging into those sands and stones."
"Actually, by this step..."
"Even if these chunks of flesh, organs, were found, it didn’t matter much anymore."
"Identifying the body’s identity."
"Was in itself a big challenge."
"One day later."
These bloodstains will turn into dark black.
These flesh and viscera will start to rot.
Half a month later.
All traces left here will be gradually covered by nature’s wind and sun...
...
By the time Brian stopped the car,
only a skeleton with little flesh remained tied to the trunk of the vehicle.
Skeletons were much easier to deal with.
Brian drove directly to another stretch of road surrounded by more woods, scattered the bones in the bushes, and buried the skull separately. After busying himself with that, he took off the outer garments and burned them.
By the time he returned to the city,
it was already past three in the morning.
He found a 24-hour automatic car wash.
After cleaning the car,
Brian, dragging his weary body, returned to his apartment.
...
A sleepless night.
After sleeping just over two hours, Brian rose early to use chemical agents to clean the car again, not stopping until even his enhanced sense of smell could detect only the scent of the chemicals on the car. Only then did he truly relax.
When he had more time later,
he would change all four tires on the vehicle.
After all, the man he had killed was a detective.
Better safe than sorry.
After busying himself with all of this,
he yawned, filled up on gas, and drove to the meeting place he had agreed upon with Susan.
Today’s task for the two was to investigate Li Sen.
The chosen meeting place was the coffee shop located directly across from the hotel where Li Sen worked.
Susan arrived even earlier than Brian.
Today, she was dressed very neatly.
Her golden hair tied up, wearing a sharp little hunting outfit, and the two large revolvers hanging on either side of her waist were particularly striking and eye-catching.
If not for the LAPD badge shining prominently on her chest,
Brian doubted Susan could even enter the coffee shop.
Susan must have been there for a while, sitting at the table, head down, fiddling with a bullet, lost in thought.
"Morning."
Brian sat across from Susan and greeted her.
Upon hearing his voice,
Susan looked up and seeing the dark circles under Brian’s eyes, her expressive eyebrows furrowed, "Didn’t you sleep well last night?"
Brian picked up the coffee in front of Susan, drank it in one gulp, and yawned before replying, "Sorry, team leader, you know, I’ve always been at the Forensic Bureau, rarely going out in the field, let alone questioning someone. I was so nervous I couldn’t sleep well all night."
Susan’s personality was very straightforward.
She didn’t mind Brian’s actions, and instead reassured him, "It’s not difficult, don’t worry, leave it to me later."
Actually, Susan had no experience in interrogation either.
But her uncle Pavel who was a senior officer in NW’s external affairs was an expert in this field.
After over an hour of pestering him on the phone last night,
Susan believed she had grasped the essence of interrogation.
...
The two briefly discussed their division of work for later, and then headed towards the hotel.
Susan’s attire was far too conspicuous.
Before they even entered, the lobby manager who was flirting with a receptionist clad in black stockings immediately greeted them.
Upon understanding their intention,
to avoid misunderstandings amongst the hotel guests,
the lobby manager even arranged a staff break room for Susan and him to rest temporarily, also making it convenient for their forthcoming questioning.
...
"When Li Sen comes in, just block the door.
Guard it well, and don’t worry about anything else!"
Susan ordered Brian with a serious face, then started to warm up.
Brian watched the girl as she clenched her fists and kicked her legs, completely bewildered.
His experience was limited.
