Chapter 104: Chapter 94: Harvest and the Monster’s Obsession (March Monthly Bonus 1)
Walking along,
Warm streams continuously surged within his body.
When there were only seven points of Gift Energy left, Brian, despite being dirty and suffering from mental exhaustion to the point of dizziness, had completely recovered from his injuries.
He quickened his pace and jogged to the messy clearing that still had a few sporadic flames burning.
Unfortunately, after searching a one-kilometer radius, Brian only found a fierce monster head and saw no sign of the obsession.
Disappointed, Brian took the head back to the small hill from before.
The bodies at the scene had already been moved onto the transport planes by those pilots.
Seeing Brian return, Susan spun her gun around annoyingly, "Brian, I heard you went to urinate over there out of spite?"
"I’m not that petty," Brian tossed the monster head in his hand, "Look, an unexpected find. Also, I was worried the missiles would start a wildfire, so I went over to check."
"No need to worry, buddy, a squad already came to handle the scene. They’ll take care of everything. If we hadn’t been waiting for you, we would have left already. It’s a big haul this time!"
The bruised and swollen-faced flight squad Commander pointed at the monster head in Brian’s hand: "Mutant Beasts are rare; we have a complete body already. You might want to take this back to make a specimen."
Brian was uninterested.
He was more curious about the wounds on the other’s face: "Was there another battle here after I left?"
The Commander covered his face and fled, unwilling to say more.
Susan clenched her fist and said casually, "He wasn’t careful and fell."
In the end, the monster head that Brian held ended up in Susan’s hands.
She planned to take it back and make it into a specimen to collect.
...
On the return journey,
Brian sat on the chair with his eyes closed, resting, but was actually reviewing the monster’s obsession:
Kill all these hairless Two-legged Beasts, kill them all!!!
The monster’s obsession was paranoid and crazed.
When receiving the obsession,
Images of a tattoo ’shaped like a man-faced sheep body, eyes under the arms, tiger teeth and human claws’ naturally appeared in Brian’s mind.
He looked at it, feeling somewhat familiar.
After a long thought,
He finally remembered, isn’t that Taotie!
So, was the monster’s obsession about killing off a gang with Taotie tattoos?
Brian breathed a sigh of relief.
He was worried the monster’s obsession was to kill himself, Susan, or the armed personnel flying the helicopters today.
None of those would be easy to handle.
It’s a good thing that wasn’t the case.
This monster was really twisted. Brian decided to treat this obsession as the most important thing for now.
Once he obtained the monster’s speed or physical qualities...
Shh!
Brian didn’t dare think about how awesome he would feel!
...
"Hey."
Just then, Susan tapped Brian on the shoulder, "Mutant Beasts are very rare and have a high research value. We estimate we can get quite a bit of merit points. Have you thought about what you want to exchange them for?"
Brian opened his eyes; the exchange items he’d seen on the internal site crossed his mind before he shook his head, "Doesn’t seem like I need anything."
"No, no, no, even if you don’t want anything, you still have to exchange," Susan’s tone turned serious, counting with her fingers, "I estimate we’ll get at least a hundred merit points as rewards, plus the eighty you had before. That puts you at one hundred eighty points.
That’s too many.
Having so many when your status isn’t high enough isn’t a good thing."
Hearing this, Brian looked at Susan in surprise, "Boss, you seem to have become smarter."
"Go to hell!" Susan punched Brian hard before sighing, "You don’t know.
After I shielded you from attention last time, some old fossils in my family have been bothering me incessantly.
Just now, that advice was from my father.
I was embarrassed to tell you before, but with us earning so many points now, I can’t keep it to myself."
As she spoke, she glared at Brian, "It’s so hard for everyone to earn merit points. You’ve earned so much in such a short time; being your boss puts me under so much pressure! It’s annoying!"
Brian:...
The problem is,
The base’s exchange potions are either for repairing bodily harm, enhancing certain parts, or extending life...etc.
None of this really seems useful for him.
Brian thought for a moment: "Susan, how about this, I’ll exchange for a complete set of body enhancement potions, and you help me sell the rest of the merit points."
"Exchange them for money?"
"Gold, money, or something else, anything goes."
Susan explained seriously to Brian:
"Merit points aren’t as valuable as you think.
They’re like Game Coins, used to distribute interests among Los Angeles officials and allied forces.
To prevent problems in resource distribution,
the NW founders created the merit system. The truly valuable things are the various special reagents produced in limited quantities each year; these are also the most worthwhile to exchange for.
Each family gets a fixed amount of merit points annually.
Staff, research, and operational departments also get some, but they don’t necessarily need those reagents.
We, as families, will arrange to buy their merit points within the organization.
Some families have entertainment resources and use handsome men and beautiful women to entice, while those with business resources offer ongoing company shares to entice, but no matter what, the value offered for merit points is never very high."
"Can’t we first exchange for the reagents and then sell them outside?"
