Chapter 96: An Irreconcilable Feud
Chapter 96: An Irreconcilable Feud
Gort understood the matter of urgency more than anyone else.
Time was off the essence, and everyone didn’t have ample time to dilly dally on the job. That being said, the avatars can only guide them on specific jobs they are involved with.
Take for example an aircraft. If they were told to build an aircraft and one person was assigned to building just the windows, the avatar will guide them on solely this. So that doesn’t mean they’ll be able to understand or manufacture the other parts. Again, do you truly understand the principles behind the overall structure?
After receiving this reward, of course he was given a task by the system.
’So if I can build any product using this antigravitational mechanism, it will be considered as completing the task, right?’
[ No and yes, host. ] The system began [ The host needs to create and use it to bring in more wealth for future projects. Once the first customer purchases and uses it, it will be considered as Task completion... This system never lies. ]
Well, there was that one time... But how will its current host know?
The system was on its best behavior when answering its host.
[ Host, it can be anything. So long as the host uses the Levitation motor, this system will reward its host with Advanced Metal Smelting and Solidifying Technology. ]
Gort’s lit up like torches, knowing the importance of such rewards.
[ The host should be aware that there is only 3 months and 3 weeks left before the world ends. ]
Gort nodded, knowing he still had a long, long, LONG way to go.
Truthfully, Gort knew he could probably create an Antigravity motor on his own if given ample time. Maybe in his 20s or 30s, he could have done it after completing a long list of personal projects he often wanted to do. But time was a thing of luxury he had at his disposal.
There was no time for delay and years of experimentation like he did in the past.
Everything must be made NOW... At least with the data in his brain, his experimentation time was far less than before. Even if he spent day and night experimenting to get everything above 99% right, the time was far less than before.
Taking a deep breath, Gort chewed on his apple, disinfected his hands and body, before heading for his main workstation.
There on the table, was a Hoverboard popularly used in today’s world.
It was a gyrocopter Hoverboard. You place your legs on it, lean forward, backwards, or tilt your body, to make it go in any direction of your choice.
These days, Gort has studied and practically understood everything concerning it. If he likes, he could even open his own Gyroscopic Hoverboard company now. But what’s the fun in doing something that’s already out there in surplus?
In one corner were several boxes of unopened Hoverboards. And in another corner, was a pile of scraped and destroyed Hoverboards.
Well, nothing was really scrap for Gort.
All these parts could be used by him to do something else someday.
"Alice, Begin Dissection."
[As you wish, Master.]
The robotic helper replied, controlling the machines as instructed.
Like so, both man and machine worked hand in hand, making adjustments till the seconds turned into minutes, then hours.
Gort didn’t even know it was nightfall when Clare Rei came to him.
....
....
Tick-Tock. Tick-Tock.
Time flew like a steady stream.
The days in Geldhan village seemed peaceful. However, the darkness that threatened this haven from the outside, wasn’t the only thing boiling over.
Dammit!
Old Welland kicked a stone furiously. These days, he has been wearing a face that was long and looked like the world owed him money.
He was Old Welland, a longtime rival of Park Fairbang. Their feud has lasted for decades, with their families never getting along. Even their ancestors and elders before them hated each other to death.
Blame this Fairbang family for being so shameless. They had a long history of stealing lovers and childhood crushes from everyone.
Look at his situation with Park Fairbang? He had a long time crush on Clare Rei back in the days. He had hinted his intentions known severally, but Clare Rei was quite innocent there, not understanding his meaning.
Then, there came Park Fairbang, sweeping her off her feet when he knew very well that he had a crush for her. Even now, Old Welland often grumbled about his missed opportunity to be with Clare Rei.
He thought she was dense and too innocent to understand back then, but Clare Rei begged to differ.
Back in the days, whenever Old Welland offered to carry Clare Rei’s water she fetched from the nearby stream, she ALWAYS turned him down.
In fact, if he offered to do any favors for her, she was very straightforward, saying No politely.
A person with common sense should be able to understand her meaning, knowing she wasn’t interested in them. But Old Welland was not an ordinary man after all, but a particularly shameless one.
Of course, he couldn’t blame his dear Clare Rei. So what did he do? She pinned it all on Gort.
Hmph!
It must be him who said something negative for Clare Rei to reject him so much. One must pity Old Welland’s wife for enduring such a man who still had another woman in his heart even after marrying another and pumping out children of his own.
SCUMBAG!
That’s what most people would describe him. One should also commend Old Welland’s wife for having a weird brain circuit too. Even before she and Old Welland got together, she was calling Clare Rei a vixen.
Like a village shrew, she would point, roll and even shamelessly fall on her butt, flaring her hands and legs like a child’s if she was ever at a disadvantage.
One must not forget her famous move of threatening to rush to a wall and kill herself due to the ’injustice’ she faced.
The woman was not a good person, just like the man she married. It was amazing that she was rude and bold towards everyone, except for her husband and her son.
She took these 2 like Gods, obeying them diligently.
...
It was 7 PM.
The sun was still high up, especially on these summer days. It was the beginning of August. The temperature was stagnant and heavy.
Old Welland was coming from the farms. Was he a person who liked farm work? Actually... not really.
Back in the days, he was very disgusted with the notion of farm work. He felt it was a job for the poor, and he, Old Welland, was destined for wealth and riches.
He always found a way to please his parents back then, allowing him to do less work compared to his siblings. And sure enough, he, the last son of his father, had inherited the majority of his father’s lands and properties.
His scheming paid off. His siblings hated and detested him, but so what?
The winner is king and the loser is a fool.
When was the last time Old Welland had gone to the farm?
One must know that ever since Gort succeeded in making the villagers wealthy, his blood pressure had risen up the notch and anger rages. He hated being at home because his darn neighbors wouldn’t let him rest with all talks about Gort, the Fairbang Family and the many changes in the village.
It’s fine and good to talk all you want about all sorts of gossip. But why do you always come very close to his house when doing so?
Old Welland had no evidence, but he felt they were doing it on purpose.
Sometimes when he decides to sit on his front porch or even stands outside, they will pass by his home, blatantly displaying their wealth and bank accounts to him.
"Hey, Old Poe although you made me lose a share or 2, it’s all water under the bridge at this point. After All, a millionaire like me can’t be as narrow minded as before."
"Yeah, yeah, Old Welland. All jokes aside, I advise you to visit the Fairbang Family and just throw your feud away."
"That is, any old feud that will make you miss out on millions, is not worth it if you ask me."
Hmph!
"It’s a good thing I didn’t ask you, right?" Old Welland retorted.
Make up with that bastard?—NEVER! He would rather cut off his own leg and eat it for supper than do such a demeaning thing.
Walking on the village roads, he suddenly felt like a stranger in his own land.
"No! I can’t allow that bastard to keep climbing over my head!" He muttered.
This can’t keep going on.
What can he do to cripple the bastard’s pride and his self-worth?
Old Welland truly wished to know... However, he couldn’t have imagined that the answer to his problem would come ringing in his ears in a short while.
