Chapter 89: The city politics
"Does Roonie even know about this stuff?"
The moment he asked this, both Lorim and Fakun started looking around, while Zack just coughed and avoided looking at him.
Forsyx just shook his head and sat on one of the chairs before the white table.
Zack was the first to break the silence as he said with a smile, "It’s good to see you here, Ve—Forsyx."
Forsyx nodded to him. "Yeah, same here."
Zack pointed to Lorim and Fakun. "I guess you already met the vice leaders, right?"
Forsyx nodded. "Yup."
Zack looked at the other two and said, "So, I talked with Roonie, and he told me to consult you about the guild stuff."
Forsyx shook his head. "Zack, let me be clear with you. I don’t want to rule over this guild."
The moment he said those words, Forsyx noticed the others relaxing around him.
Not caring about them, he pointed two fingers. "You guys manage the guild the way you like, but I want access to the guild inventory."
Zack glanced at the others and nodded his head. "The three of us already have access to the guild vaults, so it won’t be a problem to add you."
Forsyx nodded his head and said, "Second, just don’t interfere with me. I won’t interfere with the stuff you guys do. In the same manner, I don’t want anyone to mess around with the things I do."
Zack smiled. "Haha, looks like we’re on the same page."
Forsyx looked at Zack and then at the other two. "Do you guys want to add anything?"
Fakun just shook his head, while Lorim asked him bluntly, "Then what position do you want?"
Forsyx couldn’t help but smile at her. She really did care a lot about her position.
He waved his hand. "Just give me any made-up random position. I don’t care, as long as you guys don’t break the first two rules."
Zack tapped at the table. "Well, in that case, how about Shadow Vice Leader? Like, only a few in the guild would know about your power. This gives you the freedom to do anything you want."
Forsyx just rolled his eyes.
He understood that Zack was just trying to limit his influence over the guild.
He just waved his hand. "I don’t care. Do what you see fit."
Zack nodded his head and asked, "What about team members? Do you want them?"
Forsyx thought for a moment and asked, "Well, I do need a few guys. By the way, how many guild members are there in the Kiyon guild?"
This time, Fakun answered him. "If we count the four of us here, then exactly 158 players."
Forsyx rubbed his chin. "Oh, that’s a decent number."
He looked up and asked Fakun, "Care to expand a bit? I mean, how many do you guys have under your team?"
Fakun glanced at Zack and then said, "Right now, the guild master has a full team of 50 players. Most of them are elites."
Forsyx tilted his head. "What do you mean by elites?"
This time Zack coughed and said with that smile, "Well, most of the ones in my team are in the early level 40s. Even the weakest member should be at level 35."
Forsyx raised his eyebrow. "So, anyone above level 35 is an elite?"
Zack nodded his head. "For now, yeah. But in the future, we do plan to change the requirement."
Forsyx turned to Fakun and Lorim and asked, "What about you guys?"
Fakun said to him, "Both of us have 40 members in our team."
Forsyx raised his eyebrow. "Wait, so out of 158, the three of you already have 130 players inside your teams?"
Fakun just nodded to him while avoiding eye contact.
Forsyx rubbed his forehead. He didn’t have to ask further to understand that those left behind were either the worst of the trash or the new ones who recently joined the guild.
He just stopped thinking about the team and said, "Well, forget it. I’ll hand-pick a few of those guys in my free time."
Zack added, "Don’t worry. Usually, in a week or two, a dozen new players join us. You can pick from them."
Forsyx didn’t respond to that. Instead, he asked, "By the way, what’s with those two nobles? Now that I’m with you guys, don’t you think you should reveal a few things to me?"
Zack tapped his finger on the white table and cursed, "Actually, with the Spink guild gone, those guys have released some public quests in the adventure hall. Our guild also took on a few of those quests, but now... let’s just say we don’t have those quests anymore."
Forsyx rubbed his chin and asked, "So they came all the way here just for that?"
Fakun shook his head and explained, "Sir, actually, within Chimika City, most of the noble households are divided into two factions. The first is the royal faction, with the House of Branneth in the lead."
Forsyx asked, "House of Branneth, that’s the mayor’s household, right?"
"Yeah, they’re direct supporters of the royal family. Along with them, there’s the House of Loen and the House of Merev. These houses also back the House of Branneth in the city."
"Oh, these households should be under the royal family, right?"
Zack shook his head. "Well, not exactly. While the House of Loen is under the royal family, the House of Merev followed the First Duke’s command."
Forsyx raised his eyebrow. "First Duke? That must be directly under the royal family, right?"
Zack nodded his head. "Yeah, the power inside the Rowail Kingdom is scattered among one royal household, two dukes, and then there are these five ancient households."
Forsyx squinted his eyes. "Ancient households?"
Zack nodded his head. "Yeah, they’re older families who were present in the region way before the Rowail Kingdom even formed. You could say the real struggle is between these eight houses—with the royal family and the Second Duke’s family currently at total odds."
"What about the First Duke?"
"He’s neutral—aligned with the royal family. I mean, everyone under the First Duke’s household supports the royal-backed faction. But things could change in the future."
"Okay, then what about those two households that came here?"
This time, Lorim answered. "The House of Sier is directly under the Second Duke. On the other hand, the House of Veir belongs to one of the old families."
Zack waved his hand. "Well, city politics are a bit different because of the presence of the House of Trann."
"Oh? How so?"
Zack sighed and said, "The thing is, Trann used to be the biggest family in the city, and the royal family also backed them. It’s just that the royal family chose the House of Branneth over the House of Trann as the leaders of this city. That decision caused tension between those two households."
Forsyx rubbed his head. "Wait, so three houses are part of one group, with the House of Branneth in the lead. Then there’s another house that the royal family also supports... so which group is the House of Trann in?"
Fakun answered this time. "Right now, they’ve chosen to stay neutral."
Forsyx raised his hand. "Okay, three on one side, two on the other, and one neutral. What about the last family?"
Zack said, "That’s the House of Puarki. They’re also kind of neutral in the city. As for who backs them—that’s still a mystery."
Forsyx processed that information for a bit and then asked the most important question. "Okay, so we’re at odds with the Houses of Sier and Veir. What about the others? Did they give us any quests?"
This time, none of them said anything.
They just looked at each other and avoided his gaze.
After a few seconds of silence, Lorim said, "We do get some occasional quests from the House of Trann and the House of Puarki."
Forsyx raised his eyebrow. "Those are the neutral ones, right? What about the ruling group?"
Fakun said, "The other three give most of their quests to the four other guilds inside the city."
Forsyx slapped his forehead and cursed. "Fck, so basically we’re being sidelined by both the big factions in the city."
They just nodded their heads.
Forsyx had heard enough, so he stood up and asked Zack, "I believe you guys don’t need me to manage the guild, right?"
Zack nodded to him. "Yeah, don’t worry. Things here are under control."
Forsyx looked dead in the eyes, but decided not to say more. He just took one last look around the guild leader’s room and walked out.
There were a lot of things going through his mind.
He was also curious how the Kiyon Guild managed to fck up their relationship with both factions, but in the end, those things weren’t important to him.
After all, he wasn’t going to sit here and babysit the entire guild.
Also, he was sure that Zack and the others wouldn’t backstab the guild that easily.
From his past life experience, he knew the biggest fear of a person lay in losing the things they already had in life, whether material things or people.
With how much Zack and the other two had invested in the guild for their comfort, it was dead clear to him that they weren’t leaving the guild anytime soon.
