Chapter 74: House selection
Veyne just tilted his head at Roonie in confusion.
Roonie waved his hand. "Don’t worry, there wasn’t much to it. I just want to avoid outside interference as much as possible."
Veyne nodded as he understood that even though Fiona acted friendly, Roonie did not believe her. There was likely some history between them.
That was none of his business as He asked, "Just tell me the truth. Will I have to face real-life threats from others?"
Roonie shook his head. "Not from the outside."
Veyne nodded as he understood that being under the Cobra family gave him a big shield from the outside world.
But this wasn’t true for those within the family.
Well, the moment he decided to join a guild under a gang, he knew there would always be a risk to his life. But it would be the same with the other options.
The only thing that mattered to a family like the Cobras was what you brought to the table.
When he joined Kiyon, in the eyes of others, he was nothing but a thief stealing from his guild.
In just a week, the master of the Kiyon guild himself was traveling with him.
He did not let this moment of power get to his head. He knew everything that was happening in his life was because of the game.
His current self was only useful to someone like Roonie, but that didn’t mean he would remain the same.
His value lay in gaming, and he would make sure to see the day when the entire Cobra family stood behind him as his supporters.
When it came to gaming, he would give nothing but his hundred percent.
Roonie asked him at that moment, "Just tell me what else you want?"
He answered without hesitation. "The latest model of a gaming pod. By the way, I have a headset and a low-budget pod—you can install those in the guild house."
Roonie nodded. "What else?"
"A cook and a maid are a must. It’d be best if I could get a maid who can cook."
"A maid who can cook," Roonie repeated, thinking for a moment before nodding. "Okay, I’ll make arrangements for that. Anything else?"
Veyne thought for a moment. Maybe training in some martial arts would be beneficial, but what kind?
After some thought, he decided to wait.
First, he needed to create his 3 base templates. Only then would he understand which martial art suited him in the long term.
There was no point in wasting time learning something random. So he shook his head. "That’s all I need for now. As for security, I’ll leave that to you."
Roonie nodded. "Good. I’ll decide based on the house you choose."
For the next couple of hours, both Roonie and Veyne traveled around the city looking at different houses.
Halfway through, Roonie’s bodyguards joined them with a second car behind.
Throughout the night, Veyne began to understand how things worked for those with power.
He knew for sure that if he were just a normal person, not only would he have had to wait for hours, but viewing houses at night would’ve been close to impossible.
But with Roonie next to him, it was like the entire property management company bent over for them.
At every house they visited, it was cleaned up and well-lit, with a couple of workers there to welcome them.
After moving around the city for several rounds, they finally decided on a blue-tiled house just 30 minutes from the college.
This one had a massive 15-foot-deep, 100-meter-long swimming pool at the back, with a decent-sized garden in the front.
Though, unlike what he asked for, this house had three floors.
The ground floor had a massive living room, kitchen, and one-bedroom suite.
The second floor had one big master bedroom with two smaller bedrooms.
The top floor was just empty for now, which Fiona said she would set up as half gym, half empty room.
As for the empty room, Veyne decided to assign it to either the guards or the maid, depending on the situation.
There was also a small storage room beside the garage that he could use for the same purpose.
What he liked about this property was that it was in a relatively middle-class area, making the surroundings much quieter than the chaos he’d experienced in lower-end areas.
Also, this house was just 10 minutes from the Kiyon guild house, giving him the option to visit those guild members in real life, which, to be honest, he would love to avoid.
The house selection took longer than expected, and they finally arrived at the college gate at 3 p.m.
Roonie helped him get into the college and said, "Fiona told me she’d prepare the house within two days."
Veyne nodded and pointed to the car. "What should I do with this car? I don’t think the college will allow me to park it inside."
Roonie waved his hand. "Don’t worry, I’ll send the car to the garage for a couple of modifications. It should be done by the time you’re ready to move in."
Veyne nodded and stepped out of the car. "Well, good night? See you in two days?"
Roonie raised an eyebrow. "Two days? Did you forget about the party I told you about?"
Veyne looked into his eyes and shook his head. "No, I just have a lot of stuff to do in the game. How about we party on the day I move in?"
Roonie scratched his head. "Ah, that’s just one extra day? If you want that, then sure."
Veyne nodded and walked through the college gate while Roonie and his guards drove both cars away.
He walked around the campus at night.
The quiet surroundings helped him concentrate as he thought about the game.
He had made a lot of progress, but his lab space was still at zero.
He couldn’t waste any more time—he knew he had to set up his lab and start creating the template soon.
It was time to begin the real grind inside the game. With that in mind, he moved toward his dorm room.
