Chapter 1246 - Chapter 1246 Chapter 1245 It Was Selfish of Me
Chapter 1246: Chapter 1245: It Was Selfish of Me Chapter 1246: Chapter 1245: It Was Selfish of Me Bai Lan listened, heart aching, but she understood.
After all, changing the opinion of someone who doesn’t like you is very difficult.
Bai Lan didn’t respond to Zhou’s mother’s comments, and let her talk nonstop by herself.
“Really think you’re something now, huh? I’ve seen your true colors. Now that you’re married to Sheng Ting, you’re preparing to be Young Madam?” Zhou’s mother’s words were full of barbs, painful to hear.
Bai Lan acted as if she hadn’t heard, maintaining silence without speaking.
“Just got married and already afraid of hard work? Wanting an Auntie to take care of you?” Zhou’s mother coldly commented.
Zhou’s sister-in-law, hearing this, became anxious and quickly explained, “Madam, it’s actually because Madam is not well, so the master has asked me to take care of her.”
Little did she know that her words only added fuel to the fire, and Zhou’s mother flared up at once.
“What? Not well? Isn’t that just dragging Sheng Ting down? Oh, heaven, you are too malevolent, poor Sheng Ting.” Zhou’s mother suddenly became excited and distraught.
Bai Lan was startled, and Zhou’s sister-in-law was dumbfounded as she’d never encountered such a person before, so she didn’t know how to react.
“Madam, please don’t get agitated, let’s talk this over slowly.” Zhou’s sister-in-law quickly calmed down, then soothed her.
“What are you thinking? Knowing well that you have health issues, yet still marrying Sheng Ting, do you intend to end the Zhou family’s lineage?” Zhou’s mother surmised it must be a serious issue to require an Auntie’s care.
Bai Lan’s face instantly turned pale, shocked at Zhou’s mother’s remark, yet she was powerless to retort, as Zhou’s mother did have a point, and she herself was uncertain about her ability to bear children for Sheng Ting.
Zhou’s mother, having the upper hand, was relentless, pressing Bai Lan hard.
“Auntie, I will try my best to recover my health, rest assured.” The words Bai Lan uttered all seemed to lack persuasive power.
“Anyway, if you can’t bear Sheng Ting a child within a year, I hope you will leave on your own initiative.” Zhou’s mother “snorted” coldly, then threatened.
Bai Lan pursed her lips, “Auntie, I’m sorry, I will try, but I will not leave Sheng Ting on my own initiative, unless he asks me to leave.”
After saying this, Bai Lan turned and went back to the bedroom, afraid that if she stayed she would not be able to hold back her tears.
Upon reflection, she was being selfish. She hoped to stay with Sheng Ting forever, but given the current situation, it was an uncertainty.
Seeing Bai Lan ignore her, Zhou’s mother felt as though her heart was clogged with cotton, uncomfortable, yet she was helpless.
In the evening, Sheng Ting returned and Zhou’s sister-in-law quietly informed him.
Sheng Ting frowned slightly, sighing, his mother just loved making a scene.
Sheng Ting returned to the room and saw Bai Lan lying on the bed, so he gently approached her, “Lan Lan, are you asleep?”
“You’re back.” Bai Lan heard the sound, turned around, then sat up, though she seemed somewhat dispirited.
Sheng Ting sat by the bed and embraced her, “Don’t take my mother’s words to heart. How we live our lives is our business.”
Bai Lan tightly hugged his waist.
“Just take care of your health, let everything else follow nature.” Sheng Ting decided not to speak with his mother about it.
What had to be said was said, but his mother was just an old stubborn. Let her figure things out on her own.
Sheng Ting sighed deeply, it’s indeed true that good things never come easy.
