Lethal Stunner: Kicking Off with Five Beast Husbands -
Chapter 149: The Apocalypse Arrives
Chapter 149: Chapter 149: The Apocalypse Arrives
"So, what is the reason?" Xiao Jinsheng asked.
"Because you’re female, and he’s male. The difference lies in the gender," Caicai replied with a laugh.
Xiao Jinsheng was speechless to the point of wanting to punch it.
Stupid system! Divine Gold System! Blind system!
"I think you’re just a fake human," Xiao Jinsheng said.
"Hehe, I’m a system, you know. I’m not human to begin with," Caicai cackled.
"Alright, let’s not stray from the topic," Xiao Jinsheng sighed. "So, am I the Star Stone Origin or not?"
The Fog Corpses chasing her could generate Star Stones out of thin air within their bodies.
But according to Caicai’s description of the Star Stone Origin, shouldn’t the Fog Corpses closest to her convert their internal Star Stones directly into energy and transfer it to her?
Why is it the opposite... with the sequence completely reversed?
"I can’t figure this out." Caicai shook its head. "Every existing world has its own secret for being born into the universe."
"I’m just a system, so naturally I can’t peek into the true secrets of a world."
"But one thing’s clear: This Mist Continent is really strange."
Caicai said, pulling up all the information it could access from before the Mist Continent’s apocalypse began.
Eighty years ago, the apocalypse had not yet arrived.
The Mist Continent was still perpetually shrouded in mist.
But back then, the mist wasn’t toxic.
That was until the apocalypse descended.
The Mist Continent was divided into eastern and western zones.
The mist in the Mist West became highly toxic. Humans exposed to it in the Mist West instantly turned to bone, without exception.
In contrast, the mist in the Mist East dissipated. Most humans there mutated into zombies, and only a rare few awakened superpowers.
Females could only awaken spiritual power.
Males became Beastmen, possessing various superpowers.
At first, the greatest threats to the survivors living in the Mist East were zombies and mutant beasts.
Seventy years into the apocalypse, the Terminal arrived and took over this apocalyptic world of the Mist Continent.
The Terminal brought females into shelters and, through marriage contracts, bound females with only spiritual power to Beastmen who could use their superpowers to fight, linking their lives and deaths.
During these seventy years, under the Terminal’s leadership, the survivors of the Mist Continent swept the Mist East clean of zombies.
Survivors secured a stable living area in the Mist East.
However, the resources for Star Level ascension in the Mist East were limited. Zombies didn’t yield Star Stones, only Crystal Cores.
Beastmen hoping to increase their strength lacked sufficient resources.
Meanwhile, the Mist West, cut off by toxic mist, was a hub for Star Stones in this world.
The Terminal began issuing missions and providing Durable Bracelets to resist the poisonous fog, enabling females and Beastmen to cooperate and enter the Mist West successfully in search of Star Stones.
Most of these missions involved gathering plant and mineral resources in the Mist West.
For seventy years under the Terminal’s rule, the survivors in the Mist East have lived according to its rules.
Unmarried females live in the Terminal shelters.
Unmarried Beastmen live in Beastification Concentration Camps.
After maturity, females are matched with a Beast Husband and then move into a house allocated by the Terminal.
In the Beastification Concentration Camps, the inhabitants are Beastman cubs born after the apocalypse.
Once they awaken their superpowers and are over three years old, they are exiled by the Terminal to live independently, awaiting the Terminal to assign them a Female Master.
The Mist Continent operates in an orderly fashion under the Terminal’s management.
However, the poisonous mist in the Mist West can only be resisted, not dispersed.
Even with Resistance Bracelets, both females and Beastmen’s bodies are still invaded by toxins.
As a result, no new children have been born on the Mist Continent in five years.
The Terminal altered its rules and issued new missions, evidently attempting to address this issue.
Caicai went over eighty years of apocalyptic information on the Mist Continent, focusing on the Mist West.
It said, "Zombies are the product of the apocalypse; after eighty years, they’re nearly extinct."
"But the Fog Corpses in the Mist West are genuinely bizarre."
"They’re trapped in the toxic mist of the Mist West. To reach the Mist East, they have to wait for the mist to rise there."
"In other words, whether it’s the toxic mist or the non-toxic mist, it coexists with the Fog Corpses."
"The Mist West hasn’t seen sunlight in eighty years. But the Fog Corpses that appear in the Mist East when the mist rises will vanish as soon as sunlight appears."
"That gives me the feeling that the Fog Corpses are very unusual."
Xiao Jinsheng also learned about the eighty-year history of the Mist Continent from Caicai.
She speculated, "When the apocalypse descended, all humans in the Mist West died from the toxic mist. Could the Fog Corpses be what they turned into?"
In the non-toxic Mist East, humans turned into zombies after death.
In the toxic Mist West, humans turned into Fog Corpses after death.
"There’s a connection," Caicai replied, sharing its thoughts. "Based on data analysis, I think Fog Corpses are more like containers born with consciousness to store Star Stone Energy."
"They coexist with the toxic mist. When exposed to sunlight, they vanish, and the Star Stone Energy within them is reclaimed by the world."
"What you’re saying," Que Zelian pondered, "is that it’s impossible to eradicate Fog Corpses from the Mist Continent. As long as Star Stone Energy exists, Fog Corpses will persist. The only solution lies in the root cause: dispersing the toxic mist in the Mist Continent."
"That’s my hypothesis," Caicai nodded.
The Mist Continent’s world operates on Star Stone Energy.
As long as Star Stone Energy exists, the toxic mist will remain, and Fog Corpses will continue to appear.
To eliminate Fog Corpses, the solution must involve dispersing the toxic mist.
"But none of this answers my question about whether I’m the Star Stone Origin," Xiao Jinsheng said.
Especially since her memories had been altered by the Insect Brain.
And as Caicai wasn’t bound to her, it couldn’t help her regain those memories as a system.
"Are you sure I’m really the person you were bound to from another planet?" Xiao Jinsheng began doubting her origins.
"Of course! Binding the wrong person even got me fined afterward," Caicai whimpered.
"Alright, alright," Xiao Jinsheng sighed, before recalling something and asking Caicai, "You can access eighty years of apocalyptic information on the Mist Continent, but how much do you know about the Terminal?"
"Go ahead, tell me."
"A disclaimer first: I’m just a system." Caicai reminded, "In this Mist Continent, besides me, there’s only that faux-coded Insect Brain pretending to be a system."
"Of course, from my perspective as a system, the Terminal feels more like a program than the Insect Brain."
"Does that make the Terminal a program?" Xiao Jinsheng pressed.
Caicai shook its head. "No, it’s an emotion. It resembles a powerful energy that’s gained consciousness and is controlled by its own emotions."
"This sounds kind of like..." Chen Yunji hesitated, "Fog Corpses?"
"Based on Caicai’s data analysis, Fog Corpses don’t differ by Star Level. As soon as they’re exposed to sunlight, they vanish, and the Star Stone Energy within them returns to the ground of the Mist Continent," Huaiqing explained. "From this, it can be inferred that Fog Corpses are condensed toxic mist energy, and high-Star Fog Corpses can even develop consciousness."
Xiao Jinsheng took a sharp breath, stunned. "From what you’re all saying, the Terminal’s true identity sounds like a high-Star Fog Corpse formed from toxic mist energy!"
