Legendary FBI Detective -
Chapter 402: The Suspect with a Bad Temper, Clues
Upon hearing Luo An's question, the bar owner pointed behind Luo An and Chenier, towards the trash can outside the bar, and said:
"Last night, this guy fought a bald man by the trash can. The bald man didn't win, and left saying he would come back with people for revenge."
Luo An glanced at the trash can and asked:
"Do you have surveillance here?"
"There's one camera, but it's aimed at the bar and the main hall, it doesn't cover the area by the trash cans."
The bar owner laughed and poured two glasses of iced water for Luo An and Chenier, saying with a smile:
"However, I know who that bald guy is. His name is Nat; he's a regular here and lives not far from here in a neighborhood."
Having obtained the bald man's home address, Luo An chuckled satisfactorily and nodded:
"Thank you for your cooperation."
"No need to thank me."
The bar owner gestured towards the glasses of iced water on the bar:
"Two dollars, thank you."
"..."
Leaving the bar, Luo An and Chenier drove towards Nat's home, and it wasn't long before they received a call from Mona.
"The financial situation of Petduo Osan is very simple."
The target on the other end of the call, looking at the information on the computer with hands spread, said:
"Petduo Osan doesn't own property, always lives at the naval base, his car is borrowed, and he has less than 4,000 dollars in the bank, with no extra income—his life depends purely on his naval salary."
"It's been a while since I've encountered someone with such simple financials."
Luo An frowned and casually replied, and the information Mona found implied that the kidnapper's target wasn't money. After thinking for a bit, he told Mona about Nat and asked her to check on him.
Soon enough, Mona found some basic information:
"Nat Norris, 38 years old, a year ago he was with the Federation Army."
Luo An was somewhat puzzled:
"That's right."
Mona answered:
"A year ago, Mr. Nat threw punches, assaulting and beating up his superior, which led to his discharge from the army."
"He has a temper."
Thinking of the fight from last night, Luo An laughed and asked:
"Is there any connection between him and Petduo Osan?"
"One's in the navy, the other was in the army, based on their service branches alone, there's no direct connection."
Mona had barely finished speaking when Michelle's voice suddenly intervened, saying:
"However, Nat Norris's wife works as an assistant in the navy, and there has been a fair amount of calls and emails between her and Petduo Osan... in their email communications, there are quite a few hotel room numbers and heart-shaped icons."
"OK."
Luo An suddenly understood, this could explain why Nat wanted to fight Petduo Osan last night.
He instructed Mona and Michelle to continue investigating the missing person's situation, then Luo An hung up the call, pressed the accelerator to the floor, and soon arrived at the neighborhood where Nat Norris lived.
Not rushing to go directly to Nat Norris's home to investigate, Luo An first went with Chenier to speak to the community's management personnel, asking:
"Do you have surveillance here?"
The community manager was a white-haired man in his fifties who, upon seeing Luo An display his FBI golden badge, immediately raised his hands to make a myriad of gestures.
Luo An frowned, but Chenier immediately stepped forward and explained:
"He's deaf-mute."
Saying that, Chenier also raised her hands and made some gestures, the white-haired man's eyes lit up upon seeing this, and he made even more gestures, the two of them began to communicate through their hand signs.
After a moment, Chenier turned back and said:
"He said there's no surveillance here, but he saw Nate Norris last night. Norris didn't come back until after one in the morning and hasn't left since."
"But Petduo Osan went missing around 11:30 last night; that's over an hour's gap."
Luo An nodded, mimicked Chenier's sign language to thank the white-haired elderly man, then turned and went upstairs toward the room where Nate Norris was staying.
While climbing the stairs, Luo An chuckled at Chenier:
"Didn't expect you to know sign language."
"Picked up a bit before."
Chenier responded softly, without elaboration.
Seeing that Chenier didn't want to elaborate, Luo An didn't press further. They quickly arrived at Nate Norris's door. They drew their guns, stood on either side of the door, and Luo An knocked, calling out:
"Nate Norris! Are you home? You have a package downstairs!"
A few seconds later, a groggy male voice from inside the room questioned:
"Who's this? My package? Are you sure?"
Luo An was annoyed, replying:
"The package is addressed to Nate Norris. Is that you? If so, hurry up and take it! I've got other packages to deliver, don't waste my time!"
"Fu-k!"
Upon hearing Luo An's words, Norris's curses echoed from the room. Within two seconds, the door swung open, and Nate Norris stormed out, raging:
"Son of..."
Before Norris could finish the swear word, Luo An swiftly grabbed his arm, forcibly pinned him against the wall, while Chenier aimed her gun at his head, coldly stating:
"FBI! Don't move!"
"#%¥..."
Nate Norris was stunned by the sudden turn of events, but once he realized what was happening, his curses grew even louder.
However, his vocabulary of swear words was limited and repetitive, nothing compared to Aria's creative profanity in the "Murder of Female Agent #5 Investigation" (Chapter 212).
After they pushed Nate Norris into the room, Chenier followed, closing the door behind them. Luo An threw him onto the couch and directly asked:
"Stop swearing. Tell me, where is Petduo Osan?"
Nate Norris seemed slightly taken aback:
"Who's that?"
"Petduo Osan, the guy you fought with outside the bar last night."
Luo An shook the handcuffs in his hand, and said:
"We already know about the fight between you two, and also about his relationship with your wife. Tell us what happened last night."
"Oh, you mean that sorry excuse of a man."
Nate Norris's face showed sudden realization, and he laughed:
"You FBI guys are here because something happened to him, right? He had it coming!"
Luo An and Chenier exchanged glances, both recognizing the problematic implication in Norris's words, and thus without wasting time, pressed on:
"What exactly happened last night?"
Grinning, Nate Norris picked up a glass from the coffee table and took a sip, cheerfully saying:
"Some people got out of a van, and before that bastard knew what was happening, he was dragged away."
Nate Norris claimed he didn't fight with Petduo Osan the previous night. He intended to call some friends to back him up, but those "friends" didn't even respond, which pissed him off enough to knock over several street corner trash cans in frustration.
Fuming, Nate Norris took a swig of alcohol and picked up a stick, planning to ambush Petduo Osan, but then he witnessed Osan being abducted by the van.
"Those guys were definitely not ordinary people."
Having spent a few years in the Federation Army, Nate Norris's observation skills were solid, and he could tell that those individuals were quick and well-trained—not just ordinary people.
As for why he didn't call the police at the time... Nate Norris chuckled, saying he was too drunk to remember, but Luo An and Chenier guessed the real reason was definitely related to Petduo Osan and Norris's wife.
Chenier pulled out her phone to call Mona, meanwhile asking:
"What did that van look like? Did you see the license plate?"
