Legendary FBI Detective -
Chapter 382: Case Closed, The Truth, Other Victims
Following Luo An's orders, Winslow, Anwar, and Cooper went to investigate the location of the Underground Church, as well as the areas where Nicki delivered disinfectants and medical supplies.
Since Mary was diagnosed with cancer, the Underground Church had been abandoned for a long time, and the trio did not find any useful clues. However, in a store's surveillance footage, Winslow noticed a suspicious car.
"That car appears every time after Nicki makes her deliveries. Not long after Nicki leaves, the car also leaves the area. Winslow found the car quite suspicious and asked me to check it out,"
Mona explained while tapping away at her computer:
"I checked the car and found that it was using a fake license plate. Roadside surveillance shows that the car eventually disappeared in the Southern Los Angeles area."
Winslow, Anwar, and Cooper immediately went to investigate in Southern Los Angeles. With the assistance of the LAPD, they quickly found the owner of the car—a female bakery owner.
Upon inquiry, it was known that the bakery owner occasionally lent the car to her close girlfriend. Seeing a photo that the bakery owner took with her girlfriend during dinner, Winslow and his colleagues realized that the girlfriend was Mary in disguise.
"Well done."
Outside the surgery room, Luo An sat in a chair, looking up at the glowing red light and nodded in satisfaction:
"Have Winslow and the others bring the person back."
"OK."
Not long after Mona hung up the phone, the lights in the surgery room turned off, and Gerald was wheeled into the ward.
While Luo An was idly waiting in the hospital for news from Winslow's operation, Chenier suddenly called him.
"Group Leader Luo An, I've already gotten it out."
Chenier's characteristically cool and detached voice came through the phone, alongside faint cursing of a man in the background:
"Cred has confessed the source of the smuggled drugs, the route, which law enforcement officials have been bribed, the identities of the buyers, and more.
Additionally, I've also gotten the location of Cred's hidden warehouse."
"..."
Luo An's mouth twitched, as he hadn't expected Chenier to extract so much information, somewhat beyond his expectations.
Hearing the noisy background sound from the phone, Luo An raised an eyebrow and asked:
"Cred is alright, isn't he?"
Turning her head and looking at Cred who was lying on the hospital bed, his lips quivering, his face turned red and purple, constantly cursing others, and seemingly about to faint from anger, Chenier calmly shook her head and said:
"He's fine, Cred is very cooperative, and his emotions are very stable."
After Chenier's words, the background noise from the phone became even louder.
Luo An praised Chenier a few times before hanging up the phone. He was silent for a few seconds, then suddenly started to laugh. These new agents all brought him quite a few surprises. He never expected Chenier to be a bit scheming.
It didn't take long for Winslow to report that Mary had been successfully caught. Winslow, Anwar, and Cooper were all unharmed, and the mission was perfectly executed.
Not only that, but Winslow also found a warehouse rental key in Mary's house.
Opening the door of the rented warehouse, Winslow found nineteen glass bottles inside, each containing a tongue that had been preserved...
————
"Jesus!"
"Wow, amazing!"
"What The Fu-k!"
The next day, at nine in the morning, inside the Special Investigation Team's office area, everyone was utterly shocked by the nineteen tongues that Winslow brought back.
Reesi covered her mouth and exclaimed:
"So you're saying that Gerald and Catherine killed a total of 19 people in these months?
We've only found 5 so far, does that mean there are still 14 victims in the city of Los Angeles that haven't been discovered?"
Mona, Michelle, Patricia, and Chenier, who was sitting in a wheelchair, all had extremely grim expressions, even though the murderers of this case had been caught.
"No, it's 12."
Agent Luo An walked out of the group leader's office, holding up the folder in his hand, and said:
"These are the names of the victims found by Winslow in that rental warehouse. Because a religious ceremony that requires calling out names was needed, the murderous couple wrote down all the victims' names.
Of the twelve disciples of Jesus, one disciple translated as John was a natural death.
So this murderous couple only exhumed the graves of two individuals named John whose cause of death was natural, and removed the tongues from their corpses."
From the records, it seems that Catherine and Gerald, the couple's original intent, was to kill 24 people matching the Twelve Disciples of Jesus, half for each of them.
Once Catherine died of cancer, Gerald would follow her, and they would turn into undying demons together, forever accompanied by the tongues of twenty-four disciples and several candles...
Listening to this bizarre love story, and connecting it with the scenes described by Luo An, all agents in the Special Investigation Team felt a shiver run down their spine.
"Ladies and gentlemen, now that the case is solved, and the murderer apprehended with conclusive evidence, we should move on to the next step."
Luo An opened the folder and distributed the sheets with the victims' names to the agents, saying:
"Reesi, Patricia, Cooper, Anwar, you four hurry to find the bodies of these twelve victims.
Chenier, Winslow, Michelle, Mona, you four are in charge of processing the procedural issues of this serial murder case, as well as the smuggling case that followed."
"Understood!"
"No problem!"
All the agents nodded and agreed, satisfied with their response, Luo An left as everyone set off to start their work, taking the case report he had stayed up late writing the night before to the supervisor's office.
Potante Byrne's face turned grave upon hearing Luo An's account of the case.
It had never occurred to him that an investigation into the murder of a Council Chairman could uncover such a murderous couple.
"This case is extremely heinous, I need to conduct a press conference."
After reading Luo An's case report, Potante Byrne looked up and said:
"As the person primarily responsible for this case, you must make an appearance this time."
After a moment of silence, Luo An slowly nodded, but he had conditions:
"I will only answer questions related to this case. I will not answer any questions regarding myself or other cases, and I will also publicly state that I will not accept individual media interviews."
As a former front-line agent, early media exposure would absolutely interfere with work, so Luo An refused several invitations to press conferences with Vireness.
Now that Luo An has been promoted to the leader of the Special Investigation Team, his status has changed; if he still refused to participate in press conferences, the more he hid, the more attention he would draw from journalists, who would think he had major news.
Rather than having a bunch of reporters constantly on his heels in the future, it's better to attend the press conference straightforwardly. With the suspense gone, those who only care about the news would lose interest in him.
"OK."
Potante Byrne nodded in agreement with Luo An's conditions. After a few more words, Luo An proactively stood up and left the supervisor's office.
Back at the Special Investigation Team, Luo An immediately beckoned and called Michelle into the group leader's office.
Next to him, Mona, who was planning to ask Luo An some questions, was taken aback: ??!!
