Legendary FBI Detective -
Chapter 379: Interrogation in the Hospital, Luo An Unleashes His Sarcasm Again
Reesi was currently seated in an ambulance on the way to the hospital.
Upon hearing Luo An's question, Reesi explained:
"Sorry, when I arrived at the hospital, I didn't find the doctor."
Reesi indicated that upon her arrival at the hospital, she had heard a story about the doctor having left temporarily due to some urgent matter, and then two FBI agents had given chase.
It was clear that these two agents were Chenier and Cooper. Cooper then said that when those people surrounded him and Chenier in the alley, Dr. Nicki had a brief exchange with one guy whose eyes were of different sizes and then left them by entering the sewers from an access point.
"However, I did get some leads."
Reesi continued over the phone:
"At the hospital, I managed to get the doctor's home address and personal relationships, and I submitted all these leads to Mona."
Upon hearing this, Luo An picked up his cell phone again:
"Mona, how is your investigation going?"
"Michelle has already prepared the wanted notice for Dr. Nicki, and it can be officially released as soon as you authorize it."
The sound of clattering keyboard keys came through the phone, followed by Mona's voice:
"Also, I've been looking for this doctor, but his car is currently parked at the entrance of that alley, and it hasn't moved, indicating that the doctor has abandoned the car.
By using surveillance footage, I've checked the recent movements of the vehicle registered to the doctor and found that he frequently visited a particular area in North Los Angeles where the doctor has neither property nor family.
However, that area in North Los Angeles has few surveillance cameras, and for the time being, I've not been able to determine exactly where the doctor went."
"Michelle, I want you to immediately issue the wanted notice for Dr. Nicki inside all law enforcement agencies in Los Angeles.
Then come to the warehouse here to process the scene."
Luo An thought for a moment, then said:
"Mona, you and Patricia continue to track the doctor's movements. Contact me as soon as you locate him."
"Okay."
"No problem."
Michelle and Patricia all nodded in agreement, while Mona expressed some confusion:
"Aren't you going back to the Special Investigation Team?"
"No, I am taking my team to the hospital."
Luo An looked up at the criminals being placed into a car by the SWAT officers and said:
"That bald guy may know where the doctor went."
After hanging up the phone, Luo An returned the other cell phone to Cooper and gestured for Cooper to get in the car. Winslow and Anwar were to control the warehouse temporarily until Michelle arrived, and then the two of them were to come to the hospital to find Luo An.
Following orders, everyone began to act. Cooper sat in the passenger seat of the SUV, and Luo An's driving scared him so much that the anxiety he felt when the guns were pointed at him resurfaced, making his heart jump to his throat as he watched the scenery outside the windows quickly move in reverse.
Holding onto the seat belt tightly strapped around him, Cooper felt a sense of safety, swallowed some saliva, and asked:
"Group Leader Luo An, might issuing a wanted notice for the doctor alert the murderer behind these killings?"
"Yes, which is why I only had Michelle issue the notice internally to the major law enforcement departments in Los Angeles."
Luo An nodded in response to Cooper's question. Judging from Cooper, Mona, and Reesi's descriptions, Dr. Nicki was very unlikely to be the serial killer. He did not possess the abilities and traits that a murderer should have.
Publicly issuing a large-scale wanted notice against the doctor to the citizens of Los Angeles might provoke the killer to murder the doctor.
However, issuing the notice internally within law enforcement would greatly reduce this probability.
While Anwar led the bald Caucasian man Cred, Chenier, and Reesi in an ambulance to the hospital, and barely five minutes after the ambulance entered, Luo An and Cooper arrived at the hospital in an SUV.
Cred and Chenier both suffered from common gunshot wounds, and the experienced doctors in the operating room were no strangers to such cases, extracting the bullets and treating their injuries with practiced ease before long.
The bald white man Cred looked a bit pale from excessive blood loss, but since he hadn't passed out, there wasn't much cause for concern.
So as soon as Cred was wheeled out of the operating room and into the ward, he was immediately surrounded by agents Luo An, Reesi, Cooper, and Chenier sitting in a wheelchair.
"..."
Cred on the hospital bed trembled, glaring fiercely at Chenier and Cooper, then looked up at Luo An with a hoarse voice and said,
"Don't waste your time on me, I won't say anything."
"Don't get me wrong, my questions have nothing to do with those movie props."
Luo An chuckled, casually pulled over a chair to sit down, and just now he had asked Chenier for a description of what she experienced while being tied up.
"I found something off."
In response to Luo An's question, Chenier explained,
"I tried to probe Cred in return, and from his words, I could tell Cred thought that we were actually here to investigate him."
For this reason, Cred was very keen to know which stage the FBI had reached in investigating the smuggling, which is why he didn't kill Chenier and Cooper right away.
Sitting next to the bed, Luo An poured a glass of water, but instead of giving it to the parched Cred, he tilted his head back and drank it himself.
Then Luo An, smiling, briefly recounted the situation with the serial killing case and the connection between the case and doctor Nicki, finally patting Cred on the shoulder and saying with a smile,
"Clearly, Nicki, in order to escape our pursuit, not only used you but also sold you out—along with your henchmen and your business.
Just how much stuff was in those movie props? How big of a loss did you take this time, can you tell me so I can be enlightened?"
"..."
After listening to Luo An, and seeing the unprofessional and uncontrollable laughter on the faces of Reesi, Chenier, and Cooper, Cred's already pale face flushed with anger, his countenance as ugly as could be, lips trembling with fury.
Seeing this, Luo An quickly poured a glass of water for Cred, but didn't immediately give it to him, instead asking with a smile,
"What do you think? Do you know where Nicki might be hiding? Or, can you get in touch with Nicki?"
"…Give me my phone."
Looking at the glass of water in front of him, Cred was silent for a while, licked his chapped lips, glared fiercely at Luo An, and said in a hoarse voice,
"Let me make a call. I have ways to find that damn Nicki through the Los Angeles underworld!
But I have demands—I want a reduced sentence."
"Pleasure to work with you."
Luo An nodded satisfactorily, handed the glass of water to Cred, then turned back and signaled Reesi to pass her phone to Cred.
Not returning to Cred his own phone, to prevent any tricks.
Cred, not satisfied, grunted noncommittally, Luo An spread his hands, indicating that his phone had been shattered in the earlier fight and couldn't make calls.
Cred snorted coldly but took Reesi's phone, dialed a few numbers, and said into the phone,
"It's me, Cred, find me that guy Nicki with utmost speed!"
After saying this, Cred didn't wait for a response before hanging up the phone.
Cooper saw this and furrowed his brows slightly, while Reesi and Chenier remained expressionless. Luo An took Reesi's phone back into his possession, starting a conversation with an irate but smiling Cred.
As time ticked by, after about ten minutes, Reesi's phone rang again. Luo An didn't pass the phone to Cred, but instead pressed the answer button to put it on speaker, smiling at Cred.
Cred's face was filled with displeasure, but he still swallowed his pride and asked,
"Where is he?"
